Chapter 23: Drive Li Hongjuan away

After the courtyard gate closed, Zhong Chengfa quietly slipped back into the house and cautiously peeked in at the kitchen door. "Mom, well... actually, I only drank a small bowl of fish soup. How about making some noodles for Mingli? Or maybe buy some tofu tomorrow..."

Before he could finish his words, Zhang Chunxue stared at him gloomily and slammed a wooden stick on the chopping board!

"Don't play dumb! The fish soup was for Zhou Mingli's recovery and health, and it wasn't meant for you. Now your wife and grandson have drunk it all, so you must pay it back! Don't even think about going home to sleep until you catch two crucian carp! If you don't catch any, you'll have to guard the riverbank for me!"

Zhong Chengfa's face turned green, and he shrank his neck and muttered, "Mom, I... I just took a small sip, I really didn't drink much."

Zhang Chunxue didn't even raise her eyelids, her voice as cold as ice: "What your wife eats, what your son eats, the root cause is you! You have to pay for this debt!"

She paused, her eyes piercing Zhong Chengfa like a knife: "Besides, that fish soup is for Mingli's survival. When will it be your turn to worry about it?"

Zhong Chengfa was so choked that he couldn't utter a word, and his face and neck turned red with frustration.

But I'm very angry, how dare he argue with me?

He seemed to have accepted his fate, picked up the broken bamboo basket from the corner, and walked towards the riverbank, looking back every few steps. In his heart, he was still cursing Li Hongjuan.

Zhang Chunxue watched his back disappear at the gate of the courtyard and snorted heavily.

She turned and went into the kitchen, washed the rice and the pot, and started tidying up again.

The flames licked the bottom of the pot, the new fish soup bubbled up with steam, and the delicious aroma spread little by little.

But after all this trouble, the sun had already set and it was almost time for lunch.

Zhong Chengren and Zhong Chengyi came back from the fields one after another, starving to death.

As soon as I entered the yard, I smelled the aroma of fish coming from the kitchen, but the dining table was empty.

Zhong Chengren frowned and yelled impatiently, "Mom, what's going on today? It's already this late, and the meal isn't ready yet?"
