After dinner, Zhang Chunxue was washing the dishes while she said to Zhong Xiaoxiao, who was helping to clean up, without even looking up: "Xiaoxiao, just listen to what Mom said to Hongqing just now."
Zhong Xiaoxiao said "Ah?" and was a little slow to react.
Zhang Chunxue piled the washed dishes aside, wiped her hands, and looked at her with a rare serious look:
"If anyone dares to talk to you like that in the future, no matter who they are, don't waste your words on them. Just go up to them and give them a slap in the face until their mother doesn't even recognize them! Got it?"
Zhong Xiaoxiao was startled when she heard this and the rag in her hand almost fell to the ground.
She suddenly looked up at her mother, only to see that Zhang Chunxue still had that cold expression, as if the shocking words just now did not come from her mouth.
"Mom..." Zhong Xiaoxiao opened her mouth, not knowing what to say.
Zhang Chunxue, however, acted as if nothing had happened and continued, "If it's good to you, then it's good. If it's not good to you, why are you still rushing to express gratitude? How shameless!"
In the yard, the three brothers were still standing there like three wooden stakes. They had been kneeling for most of the day. Their legs were numb from kneeling, and their stomachs were ravenous.
Seeing her mother wiping the stove and humming a tuneless little song, Zhong Xiaoxiao seemed to be in a much better mood, so she mustered up the courage to speak.
"Mom, look at my eldest brother and the others... they've been kneeling for most of the day and haven't even eaten a single bite."
"In the afternoon... there's still work to do in the fields. I can't just kneel down all the time, right?"
Zhang Chunxue paused with the rag in her hand and snorted coldly, "Work? What kind of work do they do all day long?"
"Besides causing trouble for me and fighting among my own people, what else can you do? You're just an idle loser!"
The voice was loud and the three brothers in the yard heard it clearly.
Zhong Chengyi, who had just been muttering about Zhang Chunxue's cruelty, suddenly shut up. Zhong Chengfa and Zhong Chengren also shrank their necks and dared not say another word.
Zhong Xiaoxiao smiled and tried to persuade them a few more times, saying that they knew they were wrong and would not dare to do it again next time.
Zhang Chunxue then waved her hands impatiently: "Alright, alright, go and tell them to get out of here! It's so annoying just watching!"
Zhong Xiaoxiao felt as if she had been pardoned, and quickly ran out of the kitchen and into the yard.
"Brother, Mom asked you to get up!"
Zhong Chengyi was the first to try to stand up, holding onto the wall with a grin. However, his legs gave way and he nearly fell to his knees again. He said with a bitter face, "Oh my god, our sister Xiaoxiao is still the most prestigious! Sisters are just different!"
Zhong Chengfa also slowly stood up, his knees aching. He rubbed his legs and snorted coldly, "That's right. Now, in Mom's heart, the three of us brothers are not even worth a blade of grass. Only Xiaoxiao is the treasure in her heart!"
Zhong Chengren also staggered to his feet, pounding his numb legs while muttering in dissatisfaction, "Xiaoxiao, why didn't you plead for us sooner? We've been kneeling for most of the day in vain. Our knees are almost broken, and our stomachs are growling with hunger!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Zhang Chunxue popped her head out of the kitchen door.
She raised her eyebrows, picked up the bamboo pole she was using to dry clothes, pointed it at me, and said sternly, "What? You don't want to get up, right? Then keep kneeling for me! Kneel until dark! No one will get to eat!"
Zhong Chengfa, Zhong Chengren and Zhong Chengyi were so frightened that they shuddered. Their waists, which had just straightened halfway, bent down again in an instant, with ingratiating smiles on their faces.
"Mom, mom, please calm down!" Zhong Chengfa was the first to speak, his voice trembling a little.
"How dare we! We were just joking with Xiaoxiao, we didn't mean anything else!" Zhong Chengren also hurried to explain, fearing that the bamboo pole would really fall on him.
Zhong Chengyi felt even more aggrieved, muttering softly: "I didn't say anything, Mom, you can't wrongly accuse a good person..."
Zhang Chunxue snorted and knocked the bamboo pole on the ground, making a dull "thump thump" sound.
"If Xiaoxiao hadn't pleaded for you useless bastards, I would have made you kneel down for eternity!"
She glanced sharply at the three of them. "How dare you, one by one? You dare to talk behind my back? You're so arrogant, you think you're right, right?"
The three of them didn't dare to say it was reasonable and shook their heads hurriedly.
"It's unreasonable, it's unreasonable! Mom is teaching me a lesson!" Zhong Chengfa lowered his head.
"It's all because we are ignorant!" Zhong Chengren also echoed.
Then, the three of them turned to Zhong Xiaoxiao in unison, their faces instantly filled with expressions of gratitude.
"Thank you, Xiaoxiao! We are the sisters who really care about our brothers!" Zhong Chengfa said sincerely.
"Xiaoxiao, you are my dear sister! If anyone dares to bully you in the future, I will be the first to say no!" Zhong Chengren patted his chest and made the promise, even though he could hardly stand.
Zhong Chengyi also quickly said: "Xiaoxiao, Third Brother knows that you are the best!"
He felt so depressed!
He was obviously sincerely grateful to Xiaoxiao, but it was all because of the eldest and second brothers who were so talkative and fanned the flames and said sarcastic things, causing him to be scolded as well!
It's like a fire in the city gate that affects everyone in the pond!
Zhang Chunxue then leaned the bamboo pole against the wall and waved his hand unhappily, "That's enough! Get back to the fields and work! Standing here is just an eyesore!"
The three brothers were as if they had been pardoned. They didn't care about the needle-like pain in their knees and their stomachs growling with hunger. They crawled out of the yard.
Before leaving, Zhong Chengfa looked back.
Zhong Hongqing was following closely behind Zhong Xiaoxiao, and Xiaoxiao would turn back to tease him from time to time. The two figures, one big and one small, looked quite harmonious.
He was relieved at this moment. Xiaoxiao was sensible and would definitely be able to take good care of Hongqing.
