Chapter 12 Wild Boar
"You're asking for it!" Xu Zhigang's temper flared up instantly.
Lu Kai stopped him and calmly said to Lu Huaiyuan, "Okay, we'll go down together after we're done packing."
Lu Huaiyuan gave a defiant snort and turned to leave with Gu Mansheng.
As soon as the man walked away, Xu Zhigang cursed, "Why should we listen to him? Who does he think he is!"
Lu Kai glanced at the fire and frowned: "This kind of despicable person will definitely complain when he gets back."
"What are you afraid of!" Xu Zhigang brushed the dirt off his hands. "Put out the fire, then who will know what we did? Comrade Liu, go find some medicine! We'll help you!"
Liu Zhixia smiled and said, "Okay, thank you."
"Don't mention it, I feel so energized after eating your egg! Tell me what the medicine looks like!"
"Okay. That's a small flower, drooping like a bell, with a little white bump underneath. These things are hard to find. You'd be lucky to find even one."
Before he could finish speaking, Lu Huaiyuan's shrill cries for help came from down the mountain.
"Something's happened." Shen Yi's eyes sharpened, and he rushed over first.
The group followed, and just as they turned a corner, Shen Yi suddenly reached out and pulled Liu Zhixia behind him.
"Stop! Don't move."
Liu Zhixia peeked out and saw a wild boar with protruding tusks and bristling bristles staring intently at Lu Huaiyuan and Gu Mansheng, who were huddled together, not far ahead.
"Good heavens, no wonder this place is so quiet!" Xu Zhigang gasped. "This pig must weigh three hundred pounds!"
Shen Yi patted Lu Kai on the shoulder and smiled, "Look, the meat has been delivered to our door."
Lu Kai grinned, revealing his gleaming white teeth: "Extra meal today!"
Xu Zhigang was overjoyed and turned to shout to Liu Zhixia, "Comrade Liu, stay away! This thing's fangs can rip a person's stomach open!"
"Okay, be careful!" Liu Zhixia was very sensible; with her limited strength, she would only be able to deliver the vegetables.
The wild boar was pawing at the ground, clearly about to launch a charge.
Lu Huaiyuan was terrified. He shoved Gu Mansheng forward and scrambled toward Shen Yi, yelling, "Help! You're soldiers, please help!"
Gu Mansheng was pushed and stumbled, falling to the ground just inches from the wild boar's tusks. She could even smell the beast's stench. Her eyes rolled back, and she fainted on the spot.
The wild boar, however, was not interested in the woman on the ground. It growled and charged straight at Lu Huaiyuan with all four hooves!
Just as Lu Huaiyuan was about to reach safety, he felt a gust of wind. The next second, he was thrown into the air by a tremendous force, tracing an arc before crashing heavily to the ground and remaining motionless.
"Watch out!" Liu Zhixia shouted in the direction of the three people, her scalp tingling with fear.
"Get out of the way!" Shen Yi shouted, and the three of them instantly spread out in a triangular formation.
They were agile and nimble, narrowly avoiding the wild boar's tusks and body each time, constantly wearing it down.
After several rounds, the wild boar was panting heavily, and its pair of blood-red eyes suddenly locked onto Liu Zhixia behind a tree in the distance!
"Oh no!" Shen Yi's heart skipped a beat. Without thinking, he turned around and ran wildly towards Liu Zhixia!
Before the wild boar could attack, he stood like a barrier in front of Liu Zhixia: "Hide behind the tree!"
"good!"
Shen Yi's appearance completely enraged the wild boar. It roared and charged towards Shen Yi!
"run!"
In the instant Shen Yi dodged to the side, the rope in his hand shot out like a nimble snake, precisely ensnaring the wild boar's snout!
The wild boar struggled frantically, its immense strength nearly dragging Shen Yi away. At the critical moment, Lu Kai and Xu Zhigang arrived, and together they used a rope to trip the boar's hind legs, the three of them firmly controlling the beast.
Seeing this, Liu Zhixia decisively picked up a wooden stick as thick as a bowl from the ground and, with all her might, smashed it down hard on the back of the wild boar's head!
"Thump!"
With a muffled thud, the 300-pound wild boar stiffened and collapsed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Holy crap!" Xu Zhigang exclaimed, his face flushed with excitement. "Comrade Liu, that was... awesome!"
Lu Kai glanced at the two people lying in the distance: "Get them down first, Lu Huaiyuan is badly injured."
“You all worry about Lu Huaiyuan, I’d like to see Gu Mansheng.” Liu Zhixia said, walking towards Gu Mansheng.
Liu Zhixia strode forward and walked up to Gu Mansheng.
Seeing her former enemy lying quietly on the ground, a murderous glint flashed in her eyes.
She, who was always impeccably dressed in her past life, is now in such a sorry state.
After a quick check, she confirmed that Gu Mansheng had only fainted, and then raised her hand without hesitation.
"Smack!"
A crisp slap echoed through the mountains and forests.
The heads of three men not far away turned around in unison.
Liu Zhixia, however, acted as if nothing had happened, clapped her hands, and gave them an innocent smile: "It's okay, he's awake."
Gu Mansheng was stunned by the slap. Her face stung, but she regained her senses and got up from the ground, her eyes filled with shock and fear.
The three men silently turned away, but the corners of their mouths couldn't help but turn up in a crazy smile.
Xu Zhigang suppressed a laugh and nudged Shen Yi hard with his elbow: "See that? Our Comrade Liu is pretty cool! Even tougher than the female soldiers in our army!"
"Shut up." Shen Yi glanced at him, knowing there was something more to his words, but her ears quietly turned red.
"Oh, you're shy now?" Xu Zhigang winked mischievously. "You didn't blush when you were protecting someone earlier!"
Shen Yi glared at him, too lazy to pay any more attention to this gossipy guy.
On the other side, Lu Kai had already checked Lu Huaiyuan's injuries: "His bones are fine, but he fell quite hard. I'll go back to the village to get someone to get a stretcher to carry him down."
Shen Yi nodded: "You know the way well, so go and come back quickly."
“Alright. Xia, you and Gu Zhiqing come down the mountain with me first.”
Liu Zhixia walked over without even glancing at Gu Mansheng: "I'll stay. We haven't found the medicine yet, and with this wild boar incident, this mountain will probably be closed off from now on."
Lu Kai was a little worried: "But here..."
"Haven't you already taken down the biggest danger?" Liu Zhixia said firmly. "Don't worry, I'm nearby."
"Alright, be careful!" Lu Kai didn't try to persuade her any further and pulled the still distraught Gu Mansheng down the mountain.
Liu Zhixia walked over to Shen Yi and Xu Zhigang, and gave Lu Huaiyuan a disdainful look.
"He's not dead?"
Shen Yi shook his head: "No. It looks like just a superficial injury."
"What a lucky escape!"
Liu Zhixia snorted coldly, then turned to look at Shen Yi, her voice softening: "It will be a while before Brother Kai and the others come up. I'm going to find the medicine."
"Hey!" Xu Zhigang immediately gave Shen Yi a wink. "I'll watch over things here. You go with Comrade Liu! What if there are other beasts in the woods?"
Shen Yi pursed his thin lips, about to refuse, when Xu Zhigang added, "Protecting the people is our duty!"
Shen Yi remained silent for two seconds before finally squeezing out a single word:
"Um."
