Chapter 162 The Child is Innocent
Everyone gasped as they looked at the shocking paw prints on the dog's belly.
That old woman is so cruel! She even tried to kill her own grandson!
Liu Shouren couldn't bear to watch any longer and said with heartache, "Shen family, how old is the child? What if he gets hurt?"
But Chen's mother barked like a mad dog: "That's my grandson! What's it to you! Hand over five hundred yuan right now, or I'll never forgive you!"
Her eating manners were so unsightly that even passersby who had initially felt sorry for her began to frown.
Shen's father, watching from the side, broke out in a cold sweat, realizing something was wrong. The public opinion wasn't turning in the right direction!
He gritted his teeth and slapped Chen's mother across the face: "Calm down! Big Dog is our own grandson! No matter how much you hate this woman, the child is innocent!"
Shen's mother was stunned by the beating, but she came to her senses when she saw Shen's father desperately trying to signal to her.
She immediately collapsed to the ground, pounding her chest and stamping her feet, crying her heart out: "My poor son! It's all because of this slut! She seduced my brother-in-law and even harmed her own husband! They actually... they actually slandered my son and sent him to jail!"
An uproar erupted around them.
"What?! Is that even possible? Sending her own husband to jail? That's too cruel!"
"No wonder my grandmother hated them so much; it was the hatred for killing her son!"
The crowd's gaze turned angry again, staring intently at Liu Xiangyang and Zhang Shi as if they were looking at an adulterous couple.
Liu Xiangyang was speechless and exhausted. The more he explained, the worse it got. He couldn't expose the Shen family's kidnapping of Da Bao in public, as it would be a lifelong trauma for Da Bao.
Liu Zhixia laughed, a nonchalant laugh: "I thought you would keep it to yourself, but I didn't expect you to bring it up on your own. Do you really think we're all fools, letting you twist the truth like this?"
An auntie bursting with a sense of justice pointed at Liu Zhixia: "What do you mean? The facts are right in front of us. Your brother and this woman caused someone else's son to go to jail, and you still have the nerve to try to whitewash it?"
Liu Zhixia blinked, her tone calm: "Auntie, does saying it make it true? Do you think they can just say there's an affair and that's it? Where's the evidence? Did you catch them in the act?"
The woman was taken aback and looked hesitantly at the Shen family elders: "This... there really is no evidence."
Liu Zhixia pressed on, "Everyone, think about it carefully. My brother tried to explain several times just now, but wasn't he interrupted by this old woman's loud commotion? She was afraid that everyone would hear the truth, so she deliberately muddied the waters!"
Someone in the crowd suddenly realized what was happening and slapped their thigh: "That's right! That man really did want to say something, but he couldn't get a word in edgewise!"
"Exactly! We need to hear what this man has to say; we can't just listen to one side of the story!"
Liu Zhixia nodded in satisfaction: "Then everyone might as well hear the truth. Let me make this clear from the start: if these two old geezers dare to interrupt me again, then they have something to hide!"
After she said that, the two elders of the Shen family shut up, but stared at her with venomous eyes.
Liu Zhixia pointed at the two old men, her eyes blazing with anger: "Back then, it was you two good sons who kidnapped my brother's child, your own grandson! You demanded five hundred yuan! The whole village knew about it, so we sent him to the police station!"
Shen's mother screamed, "You're talking nonsense! That's slander! You colluded with the brigade leader to frame my son!"
Liu Zhixia laughed angrily: "The captain is a witness, and you say we bribed him. What about the villagers who participated in the rescue? What about the militia who kept watch all night? What about the comrades from the police station who interrogated them? Were they all bribed? If we had such extraordinary abilities, would we still be working as peasants here?"
"Pfft!"
Those around couldn't help but laugh and shook their heads.
"That's right, the police station won't wrong an innocent person! Old lady, it seems your son really did something wrong!"
Taking the opportunity, Zhang stepped forward, choking back tears, and said, "That beast, Shen the eldest, held a butcher knife to my child's neck and said he'd kill him if he didn't give us money! I'm a mother too, I know he's heartless enough to do such a thing! To save my child, I had to put a drug in his food... that's why those three heartless bastards were arrested!"
The onlookers suddenly realized: "So that's it! This isn't an affair, this is a lifesaver! No wonder those two old geezers hate you so much, you've cut off their source of income!"
Just then, the big dog, nestled in the aunt's arms, suddenly burst into tears and added insult to injury: "Grandma is wicked! Grandma said she's going to sell my brother to human traffickers for money! She also said the big dog is stupid and won't fetch a good price, and she's going to beat him to death and throw him up in the mountains to feed the wolves... Waaaaah, I don't want to be fed to the wolves..."
Children's words, spoken without restraint, are the most hurtful.
The entire room fell silent; everyone was stunned. Was this really her grandmother? She was a demon!
Zhang reacted quickly, hugging her son and crying, "Yes! I begged the Liu family for help to save my life, and they helped me find a job despite our past grievances. I've lived an honest life and never done anything shameful! Please don't believe their lies!"
The security guard who hadn't been able to get a word in edgewise finally snapped and yelled, "I told you from the beginning, but you wouldn't believe me! Adults can lie, but can these kids lie? These two old geezers are just here to extort money! Their son and daughter are both in jail, and they have no one to support them. They heard their daughter-in-law is a good catch, so they're here to leech off them!"
The onlookers felt they had been tricked, and their sense of humiliation instantly turned into anger.
"Bah! What good can an old man be if he raises such beastly children?"
"Everyone saw her hit the child! She's heartless and cruel; this kind of person can't be allowed to live!"
"Yes! Send them to the police station! Let their whole family be reunited!"
The angry crowd swarmed forward, giving the Shen family elders no chance to refute, and quickly pinned them down and dragged them to the police station.
Terrified, Shen's mother screamed, "I won't go! I was just released! I don't want to go back!"
Shen's father stared intently at the Liu family, spewing vicious curses, but his words were quickly drowned out by spittle.
Watching this farce end, Zhang was still in shock, trembling as she held her son.
Liu Zhixia gently patted her shoulder: "Sister Zhang, don't be afraid, it's all over now. That kick was quite severe, quickly take Big Dog to see a doctor."
Zhang then came to her senses and picked up her son to leave.
Liu Xiangyang reached out and took the child, his voice gentle: "Let me hold him. Dad, you and little sister go first. I'll take Big Dog to see the doctor and then catch up with you. After all, this child calls me uncle."
Liu Shouren nodded with satisfaction: "Alright, go ahead. We have to see this through to the end."
After watching Liu Xiangyang and Zhang leave, Liu Zhixia took her father's arm and walked back.
Just as she turned the corner, she saw Gangzi huddled against the wall, winking and making faces at her with a shifty look on his face.
Liu Zhixia was amused by his comical appearance and walked over, laughing, "What are you doing hiding here so sneakily?"
Gangzi wiped his sweat and said with emotion, "I saw that there was such a commotion over there just now, so I didn't dare to show my face, afraid of causing trouble for you."
