"Xiao Duan, something bad has happened! A few thugs came from the mountains, killed several villagers, and injured a few others. When we went into the mountains together, we saw a man injured and unconscious. He's in the clinic now. You should go and check on him right away!"
"What?"
"There's no time to explain, hurry up and come with me!" Liang Guoliang pulled Duan Yueman toward the clinic, not forgetting to remind his family: "Li Xia, quickly wake your grandma and dad up, let's go hide in the village first, it won't be good if those thugs come to our door."
"Uncle Liang, I understand." Li Xia had been watching from the doorway.
Since Liang Guoliang had said so, she got up, put on her coat, and went to knock on her grandmother's door.
Grandma Li slowly put on her clothes. She was already used to such scenes. Back when many people fought with guns, she wasn't afraid at all.
"Grandma, let me help you to the village entrance."
Li Xia held her grandmother with both hands.
On her way to the clinic, Duan Yueman had sprained her ankle countless times. She had been here for two months and was still not used to walking at night.
A few minutes later, I arrived at the clinic and saw a barefoot doctor already bandaging a patient.
"Nurse Duan, you've come at the right time. This man looks like a policeman. He's been stabbed more than a dozen times. See if you can protect his heart before the ambulance arrives?"
Although the barefoot doctor had been practicing medicine at the clinic for many years, he was not capable of performing surgery. He had applied medication, but the bleeding could not be stopped at all.
"Police officer?" Upon hearing this identity, Duan Yueman immediately stepped forward to check. "Brother Yuanzhu?" She was shocked when she saw that it was him.
"You know him?" Dr. Liu looked at Duan Yueman in surprise.
Duan Yueman looked at Dr. Liu and said, "His injuries are too serious, he needs surgery immediately?"
"The ambulance was already on its way, but when they found him, he was bleeding heavily all over his body, so he had to be carried back."
Duan Yueman took Liu Yuanzhu's pulse and said that his condition was already very serious.
"Dr. Liu, I remember you said before that there is an old Chinese medicine doctor in the village who can cure diseases and save lives. Let's ask him to give Brother Liu an acupuncture to protect his heart meridian. Maybe there will be a glimmer of hope for him?" Duan Yueman's face was pale, as if she had grasped at a straw.
Tears streamed uncontrollably from her eyes.
Liu Yuanzhu's injuries were too severe; without timely surgery, he would not survive.
He lost too much blood and his body was severely anemic. If his heart was not protected in time, he might not survive.
"Will this work?"
Dr. Liu was a little puzzled; even if he were to receive an injection, there was no guarantee that the patient would survive.
"Given the current situation, we have no choice but to give it a try. Even though his background is questionable, he is still a human life!"
Liang Guoliang immediately offered to help.
A short while later, the old Chinese medicine doctor who knew acupuncture was brought over. He was currently raising pigs at the village's pig farm.
He heard them say they wanted him to come and see someone, that they were a policeman.
Qiao Song came over and saw Liu Yuanzhu, and frowned slightly!
Duan Yueman took out a set of silver needles and looked at Qiao Song with teary eyes.
He didn't say much, cleaned and disinfected his hands, gave Liu Yuanzhu a few acupuncture needles, and slowly stopped the bleeding.
Soon, the ambulance arrived, and Duan Yueman accompanied it the entire way to a large hospital in the city.
Li Shuan, who works in the city, received a call from home in the middle of the night and rushed to the hospital.
"Comrade Duan?" Li Xia said on the phone, "The injured comrade seems to know Duan Yueman."
He limped over and saw that Duan Yueman's eyes were red from crying. He spoke up worriedly.
When Duan Yueman saw Li Shuan arrive, she had already calmed down.
"Brother Li, did Sister Li Xia send you?" Duan Yueman and Li Shuan had it tough, and even though Duan Yueman's legs were weak, he still cared about her.
Li Shuan took a breath and said, "My family was worried something might happen to you, so they sent me over to check on you."
“Brother Li, you should go back and rest. I’m fine! Brother Liu and I grew up together. He just went in for surgery and may need a little more time.”
Duan Yueman didn't want to trouble others, and Li Shuan had finally found a job in the city, so she didn't want him to take leave without a valid reason.
Coming here in the middle of the night, we still have to start work the next day.
"It's alright, I'll stay here with you. I can take care of you if anything happens." Li Shuan saw that Duan Yueman was all alone and helpless, so he stayed with her.
Duan Yueman shook her head: "Brother Li, I'm fine. You should go back. I'm not scared. The surgery won't be over in a few hours. You can't help here anyway, and I'll take good care of myself. Go back."
“Well…” Li Shuan was a little worried.
Duan Yueman continued, "Don't worry, this is a hospital, nothing will happen."
Seeing that she had already said that, Li Shuan felt it was inappropriate to stay any longer, so he instructed her, "Then take good care of yourself."
Duan Yueman nodded!
After Li Shuan left, Duan Yueman stood guard at the door, watching the operating room.
She clenched her fists and silently prayed that Liu Yuanzhu would pull through.
When the morning air was slightly cool, the doctor finally emerged wearily from the operating room.
The surgery was successful, but the patient is currently in critical condition and remains in a dangerous period.
Duan Yueman called the village to ask for leave and stayed by Liu Yuanzhu's side.
The local police have come to see it several times.
Liu Yuanzhu was out of danger in the afternoon.
The first thing he saw when he woke up was Duan Yueman, who was sitting in front of him with her eyes closed.
Liu Yuanzhu thought he was dreaming. He remembered that familiar face crying beside him.
His lips were chapped, his throat was dry and sore, and he desperately wanted to drink water, but his whole body ached.
