Chapter 91 Calling me "sister" is a sign of respect

"Hey girl, here you go~"

Lin Qiyue returned home and didn't even have time to close the door before putting down the steamed buns and groceries she had bought.

Dong Qingqing came in carrying a bowl, which was filled with meat.

"Sister Dong, you've given it all to me, what are you going to eat?" This is a bowl that ordinary people wouldn't dare to eat like this.

A big bowl of pig's trotters made her incredibly hungry.

Dong Qingqing smiled, put down the stewed pig's trotters, and saw the steamed buns on the table. Han Yingyu had given her six.

She quickly smiled and waved to Lin Qiyue, saying, "We don't have any children. Han Meizi and I are elementary school teachers. The students in our school are mostly children from the military region and nearby villages. We earn more than thirty yuan a month, so we don't have any financial pressure and our living conditions are quite good."

This has left Lin Qiyue bewildered; everyone is so enthusiastic.

She originally just wanted to buy two crabs as a token of gratitude, but instead, they gave her more delicious food.

"We're just neighbors looking out for each other, so don't feel too much pressure. I'm going back now."

"Okay, thank you, Sister Dong."

Lin Qiyue saw Dong Qingqing to the door, and Dong Qingqing turned back to Lin Qiyue and said, "You, don't be so polite with your sister. Since you call me sister, I can't let your man worry about you. I know you like to eat pig's trotters. Neither of our families has children, so there's no pressure. Let's go back now."

"Okay, I understand." Lin Qiyue realized that some people who genuinely want to be good to you will do everything they can to be good to you the more you try to repay them.

She began to understand why Lan Yuchu had said before she arrived that the neighbors were all easy to get along with.

People who become teachers are naturally easy to get along with and are warm-hearted, especially since neither family has children.

Back home, Lin Qiyue had originally planned to make chicken soup, but it seemed she couldn't eat it.

Let's stew it tomorrow, otherwise we won't be able to finish it in this hot weather.

When Dong Qingqing returned home, Zhu Hushan had already washed the dishes for her.

"The crabs are steaming in the pot, they'll be ready soon." Zhu Hushan was actually quite good to his wife. Seeing Dong Qingqing so happy, he asked curiously, "Why are you so happy?"

“How could I not be happy? In this residential compound, everyone likes to call me sister-in-law. In July, they like to call me sister, and they call me and Yingyu sister.”

How could she not be happy? This shows such great respect.

"What's wrong with calling me 'sister'?" Zhu Hushan was a little confused. Aren't they the same terms of address? Sister-in-law and sister are the same thing.

“That’s different. Calling me ‘sister-in-law’ is because you have status. Calling me ‘sister’ is a sign of utmost respect for me. July went to high school, comes from a big city, has a good family background, and is very polite. She’s much better than those who only call you ‘sister-in-law’ but talk badly about you behind your back.”

Calling someone "sister" is a way of acknowledging their status.

Lin Qiyue is a kind and smart person, how could she not like her?

Upon hearing this, Zhu Hushan knew he was a rough man and wouldn't understand, but he would listen to what his wife said.

He silently handed Dong Qingqing chopsticks.

Lin Qiyue ate one steamed bun and then finished the whole bowl of pig's trotters.

"Hiccup~"

Even while hiccuping, he kept rubbing his stomach; it was just too uncomfortable.

"I can't take it anymore, she really knows how to manage a household, these pig's trotters are so delicious!" Lin Qiyue exclaimed, Dong Qingqing's cooking skills are really good, she's fed her to her heart's content.

The steamed buns can only be stored in the refrigerator and eaten for breakfast the next day.

Thankfully there's a refrigerator, otherwise it would have been a real waste. And remembering what Wang Xiaoyin said during the day, about eating only one meal a day.

I immediately realized how hard it is to come by food!

After resting for a while, Lin Qiyue finished showering and started missing Lan Yuchu.

It's been so long, and there hasn't been a single phone call or letter.

As Lin Qiyue lay in bed, she suddenly remembered that she had arranged to go to the city with Wang Xiaoyin during the day.

She got up, packed up the translated articles and books, then turned off the lights and went to sleep.

The next morning, after breakfast, Lin Qiyue waited at the entrance of the family compound with a bag in her hand.

"July, are you going out?" Huang Lanying, the political commissar's wife, greeted Lin Qiyue with a smile when she saw her outside.

Lin Qiyue would politely reply, "Yes, I'm going to the city for a stroll today."

“You should go out for a walk. I heard from the neighbors that you don’t like to go out. You should go out and move around, instead of always staying cooped up in the house.” Huang Lanying is the wife of the political commissar. Her husband always assigns her tasks, asking her to take good care of the military wives in the family compound.

Sometimes she also had to do ideological work with them, and over time, she got used to paying attention to everyone.

"I'll listen to my aunt; I should go out for a walk," Lin Qiyue said obediently.

Huang Lanying likes children who are easy to talk to. "I'm not going to chat with you anymore, I'm going to get busy."

"Take care, Auntie."

As soon as Huang Lanying left, Wang Xiaoyin ran out, panting, and said, "Sister-in-law, I'm so sorry, I overslept."

She was a little shy, scratching her head. Her husband was so playful that she only went to sleep when she heard the reveille.

Sure enough, soldiers are all very physically fit, as Lin Qiyue has witnessed firsthand.

"It's okay, I just got off. Let's go." Lin Qiyue reached out and pulled Wang Xiaoyin toward the bus stop.

I arrived at the bus stop just in time for the bus to arrive.

After getting on the bus, there were seats available.

"Sister-in-law, what are these?" I noticed Lin Qiyue had been carrying a bag ever since we came out.

When Lin Qiyue was asked this question, she looked down at the article she was carrying, and then smiled mysteriously.
