Chapter 28 Visiting the Elderly

After nearly twenty minutes, Lan Yuchu stopped and asked, "Have we arrived?"

Lin Qiyue jumped off the bicycle and looked at the historic house. It must be very valuable. In later generations, this would be a courtyard house!

"What are we doing here? Who are we meeting?" Lin Qiyue asked Lan Yuchu curiously after looking around.

On their way here, they bought a lot of gifts, including food and household items.

Moreover, the people living around here are mostly factory workers who were assigned housing after working at the factory.

This household does not appear to be a staff dormitory.

However, at this time, such houses should not be habitable and should definitely be handed over, otherwise they would belong to the capitalists and they would definitely have to work in pig farms.

After parking his bicycle, Lan Yuchu explained, "This is my comrade's home. He sacrificed his life. I came to see my grandmother today. She should be home. She wrote the marriage agreement when we got married. Because of her advanced age and the fact that three generations of her family have sacrificed their lives, she rarely goes out."

"Is that so? Then we should really thank her." Lin Qiyue recalled that in the original owner's memories, there was a marriage certificate that was given by an old man. The certificate mentioned that the Lan family was able to return partly because of the help of a highly respected old man, and those people didn't dare to do anything to her.

However, her daughter-in-law was also driven to her death by them, and her son also died in a foreign land during the War of Resistance against Japan.

My grandson was four years old at that time, and now he has passed away.

The book also mentions it briefly when introducing the background.

Lan Yuchu took the things and knocked on the door, then reminded Lin Qiyue, "Just call her Grandma Sun later, she's from her hometown and she's very kind."

"Okay, I understand." Lin Qiyue nodded seriously.

The woman who came out to open the door was a woman in her forties. She wore glasses and had a very strong presence. She looked at the two people who knocked on the door.

Lin Qiyue was a little nervous. This person was strangely fierce, even fiercer than Lan Yuchu.

"Who are you looking for?" the woman asked directly, her tone less than friendly and her eyes sharp.

But when she saw that the woman was carrying something, her gaze softened a little.

"Hello, Aunt Sun. We're here to see Grandma Sun. This is my wife, Lin Qiyue. Grandma Sun wrote our marriage certificate when we got married. We've come to visit Grandma Sun today." Lan Yuchu's tone was very tactful.

Upon hearing that he wasn't there to cause trouble, the woman looked closely and seemed to recognize Lan Yuchu. She immediately smiled and asked, "Are you... the second young master of the Lan family?"

"Yes."

"Quickly, please come in." The woman immediately opened the door and let them in.

After they came in, she closed the door and explained to them, "Too many people come looking for trouble every day, so don't blame me for being rude! We haven't seen each other for years, I can't remember what you all look like!"

Lan Yuchu and Lin Qiyue exchanged a glance and understood the meaning behind her words.

Lan Yuchu nodded in agreement, "I understand. Grandma Sun told us not to come yesterday, but we still came today. We hope we didn't bother her."

Sun Ru shook her head and said, "Auntie is fine. I happen to be off today, so I'm staying home to keep her company. She's reading the newspaper right now. Come in and sit down, I'll go to the yard to call her."

He had Lan Yuchu sit in the living room, then poured her some tea. He turned and went into the yard, calling out loudly, "Auntie, the Lan family's second son is here?"

Upon hearing that guests had arrived, Grandma Sun immediately put down her newspaper and, leaning on her cane, walked into the living room.

Sun Ru stepped forward to help him up, saying, "Slow down, there's no rush."

Upon entering the living room, Grandma Sun took a liking to Lan Yuchu and excitedly reached out to shake his hand: "Second son, you're here! Didn't I tell you not to come? With so many people watching outside, you're really something!"

The words were filled with blame, but also with worry and helplessness.

Lan Yuchu quickly got up and took the old woman's hand, her voice trembling with excitement and guilt: "Grandma Sun, I'm sorry, I couldn't bring Brother Sun back!"

At that moment, looking at Grandma Sun, tears welled up in his eyes.

This was the first time Lin Qiyue had seen him like this, and she lowered her head in self-reproach.

Grandma Sun held his hand, her eyes filled with tears but with a smile, and looked up to wipe away Lan Yuchu's tears.

She patted Lan Yuchu's hand twice, glanced at Lin Qiyue, and said, "It's his honor. You did nothing wrong and don't need to blame yourself."

"Grandma Sun!" Lan Yuchu could not hide her grief.

If Brother Sun hadn't been protecting him, he would have been the one to die.

“Good child! Don’t cry. It’s only right that your brother Sun saved you. You are different! You have a wife, children and family. You can’t sacrifice yourself like this!” Grandma Sun could understand her grandson’s actions.

Lan Yuchu had just returned to his unit after his wedding when an accident occurred during a secret mission, something many people didn't want to see.

If he dies, what will become of his newlywed wife?

"It's all in the past, don't mention it again! Grandma is old, I can't bear to bring it up again." Seeing that Lan Yuchu still wanted to bring it up again, Grandma Sun knew he felt bad, so she interrupted him.

Looking Lin Qiyue up and down, he nodded in satisfaction and asked with a smile, "Qiyue, right?"

"Hello, Grandma, I'm July." Lin July stepped forward and bowed to greet her.

"What are you so nervous about? I'm just an old woman, I can't eat you!" Seeing Lin Qiyue's nervousness, she chuckled and made a joke.

Lin Qiyue looked at Lan Yuchu somewhat reservedly.

After leaving her own territory, Lin Qiyue began to feel a little scared.

The old lady looked very kind, but her aura was even stronger than Aunt Sun's.

How could she not be nervous!

"Grandma, July is timid. It's her first time meeting you, so please don't blame her," Lan Yuchu immediately came to her daughter-in-law's rescue.
