Chapter 54: Improving Favorability 1

"Don't go over there, get in the car first." Pei Xinghe said sternly.

He held Gu Qingmeng tightly in his hand, not letting her go forward.

After calming down, Gu Qingmeng found herself on the tractor, with Gu Guodong, Gu Guoliang and Pei Weidong on it.

"Pei Weidong, Xiaoxue is taking a package, go help him."

Gu Qingmeng sent Pei Weidong away, and Pei Xinghe, who was perceptive, also left. Only three siblings were left on the tractor.

"As you can see, something happened at home. Dad has cut off all ties with us in the newspaper. From now on, if you see them in the village, just pretend you don't know them. But we must take good care of them in private!"

Gu Qingmeng wiped away her tears. Her father and grandfather were surrounded by several people wearing red armbands, and were occasionally pushed and shoved. After not seeing them for two months, their tall figures had become hunched, and there were bloodstains on their clothes.

Gu Qingmeng actually spotted Grandpa right away. It was hard not to see his sharp eyes. He was the most seriously injured among the group. His graying hair was covered in blood scabs, his cherished beard was a mess on his face, and his right leg was broken. He had expected something bad to happen to him! But he certainly hadn't expected such humiliation!

The little old man who was full of energy two months ago has now become skinny.

Gu Qingmeng covered her face with her hands, and Gu Guodong wiped his brother's face with his hands: "Don't cry, do you want others to see us? If something happens to us, no one will be able to take care of grandpa and dad."

The three siblings were all taking deep breaths and tidying themselves up. They couldn't let anyone see them. It was a great blessing to be able to bring someone here to take care of them secretly. If they were discovered, grandpa and dad would definitely be taken away and sent to another place!

"Get out of here, you little brats! Hand the person over to us in Peijiagou and we'll definitely reform him! You don't need to criticize me. I'm the boss of my territory. Your father wasn't even born when I was fighting. If you dare challenge me, I'll dig up your ancestors' graves."

Seeing his old leader's expression, Pei Hei Xiong's eyes turned red with anger. How dare these people do this? Unable to find anyone to vent his anger on, he could only vent it on these red armbands. What made it even more infuriating was that he saw two young men from Peijiagou among them.

If he doesn't let his father break their legs when he gets back, he won't be called Pei.

"Get out! Get out of here!"

Pei Hei Xiong was cursing, and Pei Da Zhuang was helping to smooth things over. Pei Xinghe was handing out cigarettes to everyone one by one, hoping to get rid of them as quickly as possible. Otherwise, if they really followed him to Peijiagou, they would definitely hold a meeting to criticize him. Kneeling down and repenting was the least of their worries. If the siblings saw it, they would not be able to control themselves, and it would be troublesome if they started making a fuss.

"This is a famous hero in Gaoling County. He even communicates with the top leaders. He has shrapnel in his head and has a bad temper. Even the city and provincial leaders don't dare to mess with him. Just ignore him."

Pei Dazhuang smiled, his implication being, "You dared to scold this guy even when the higher-ups were here? What do you think you are, little brats? He's a war hero, so whatever he says is right?" The key was that he was older than them. If anything, one of these kids would have to call Pei Hei Xiong their ancestor. After all, he had to call them Grandpa.

"Humph! I don't care about the other villages, but I'm going to take the people from Peijiagou back and educate them. I have to correct their thinking. No one else can interfere. From now on, I will live and eat with them and supervise them."

Pei Heixiong was sitting on the ox cart, snapping the whip with one arm, as if he was going to whip anyone who took his job.

Pei Dazhuang was overwhelmed when he heard what his grandfather said. How did they talk about living and eating together? Pei Xinghe's eyes flickered as if he had thought of something.

"Grandpa! Can we please stop making trouble?"

Is that cowshed a place for people to live? Five people came here two years ago, and three died in one winter! They were wrapped in straw mats, carried up the mountain, and buried. Why did the little grandfather come along to join in the fun?

If this guy wasn't his grandfather's biological brother, and his father hadn't pulled him aside before he died and told him to take good care of his grandfather! He wouldn't care about him at all. If he really had to live in the cowshed, the village would have to build him a house.

"Who's causing trouble? Just because they were sent down here proves they're bad elements. I must supervise and educate them! When I get back, I'll move my family to the cowshed."

Pei Heixiong knew that only if he went to the cowshed would the cowshed be rebuilt. The winter here is cold and the old leader is over 60 years old. He can't survive if the cowshed is not rebuilt to make it warmer. Also, he received news that someone wanted to harm the old leader.

Seeing that Pei Heixiong had diverted his attention, several people with red armbands quickly ran away with their men, leaving behind only three people who were sent down to Peijiagou, Gu Huaian, Gu Jun, and Dean Lu.

"Sister, why didn't my mother come?"

Gu Guodong asked the question deep in his heart: she didn't go down with her father. Did something happen? He believed that his mother was not the kind of person who would abandon her husband and children!

"Auntie Tian might have been delayed by something. Don't worry, we'll find out when we go to visit Grandpa and Dad tonight."

Gu Qingmeng didn't know how to tell her younger brothers about their father's divorce. Tian Liping was their mother, and she felt that Gu Jun should be the one to tell them about this.

"Dongzi, hurry up and get the packages in the car. We should leave. Xiaoqiang, drive slower. Look, you've made Gu Zhiqing's eyes red."

When Pei Xinghe saw Li Erqiang coming out, he grabbed him and told him to drive quickly. Although he would be taken back by his father, he would inevitably be criticized. It happened that the two brothers had just been discharged from the hospital after being poisoned by snakes, so no one would care if they didn't go.

"The doctor told you to get more rest. You should rest well when you go back. I'll ask for leave for you."

Pei Xinghe saw Gu Qingmeng lowering her head, and he knew without even looking that she must be biting her lips tightly! His heart felt like it had been punched hard, and it ached dully.

Pei Weidong and Su Xue realized something was wrong, but they didn't say anything. This was not the place to talk.

No one spoke much along the way. Li Erqiang thought that he was driving too fast and hit a few people. He kept apologizing guiltily until he dropped them off at their doorsteps. He vowed to practice his skills hard and become the most stable tractor driver!

There was no one at home. When Gu Qingmeng opened the door, she heard the black panther's cry. They were in the hospital these days thanks to Aunt Shuqin who helped take care of the house.

"I've prepared a thank-you gift for Aunt Shuqin. You can take it back later. I won't be going over."

Gu Qingmeng took out a piece of crimson cotton cloth and asked Pei Xinghe to take it back.

Pei Xinghe saw that everyone had entered the house with their belongings, so he spoke: "Okay, control yourselves and don't let anyone notice! Otherwise, we're doomed."

Pei Xinghe is not a stupid man. When he moved from Gu Qingmeng to Peijiagou, he bought a house and then built a school. The school is very close to the cowshed. I guess they sent the children to the countryside for refuge before something happened at home.

"Don't worry, I'm here with you. Your family will be fine!"

Pei Xinghe didn't take the matter seriously. Looking back several generations, whose family was safe? His grandmother was a daughter of a wealthy family. Not all those sent down were bad people. How many were sent down because of disagreements? Who could tell?
