Chapter 300 Smoked Beef Sandwich

Chapter 300 Smoked Beef Sandwich

This forum was very wealthy and grand. Lu Youyou met several academic bigwigs when she accompanied the professor to the banquet the night before. Not to mention the next day, almost all the experts and scholars who were worth mentioning appeared in the lecture hall of Columbia University.

In the previous two days, Lu Youyou attended more than a dozen reports in a hurry, and she was present at every question-and-answer session, so much so that when she went on stage on the third day, many people recognized her.

Professor Hopkins' special report was the finale of the forum. When people saw that the person who picked up the microphone was Lu Youyou, the expected doubts did not occur. Instead, many people showed interest.

After all, he was the only one who left such a deep impression on the big guys just by asking questions. He stayed for private discussions after the speech, and the same scene happened many times.

"Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Today..."

As the theme continued to deepen, even though many people had raised their expectations, they still unknowingly entered Lu Youyou's rhythm.

So much so that when the main course was served and the microphone was handed to Professor Hopkins, the audience seemed to be reluctant to leave.

The professor made a joke humorously: "I am really getting old. An old guy like me is not as popular as my students."

As soon as he finished speaking, applause and laughter rang out.

It's true, it's not impossible to let the lady continue speaking.

Hopkins had no intention of teaching his apprentice to starve himself to death, and during the question-and-answer session, he directly invited Lu Youyou to go on stage.

Several big guys in the audience who had been "troubled" by Lu Youyou were now in high spirits.

Those who didn't fully understand the speech basically asked questions to Hopkins, the speaker.

In the last bit of time, the big guys forced Lu Youyou to have a "thesis defense" with all kinds of tricky questions.

Professor Hopkins was calm and composed, not worried at all that his favorite student would not be able to stand the test.

His students are so outstanding, the old guys can just be envious!

As he expected, as Lu Youyou answered more questions, several big guys had a familiar light in their eyes, just like the first time he listened to Lu Youyou's group report in class.

He suddenly felt a sense of urgency. Would his old friends want to snatch his students from him? !

After the lecture, Professor Hopkins was stopped by some acquaintances. When he finished chatting with them, he looked around...

Where are the people? Where is Lu?

After looking around again, I finally saw the person I was looking for outside the hallway.

The person blocked by the thick and tall Roman column is his long-time friend Thompson!

As the dean of MIT Wuzihou Oceanography Institute, what can I talk about with international students at Stanford? !

Hopkins strode over and just heard a tail -

"Lu, you can go back and think about it. My words are always valid."

Without considering the context, just the tone made Hopkins conclude that this was the Big Bad Wolf who came to deceive his Little Red Riding Hood.

Thompson was not afraid to meet his old friend. Everyone wants talents. Even if one is late in the graduate stage, there are still PhDs and postdoctoral fellows. Good food is worth eating when it is available.

In fact, the two bosses have known each other for many years and have a good relationship, but snatching students is not something that can be tolerated just because of a good relationship. Thompson was not embarrassed at all about being caught, and even took the initiative to treat them to a meal.

Hopkins just felt a toothache: "Lu still has to continue listening to the report, I will accompany you if you want to eat."

Lu Youyou smiled and said, "Professor Thompson, thank you for your kindness. I do have a few more reports I want to attend, so I'll excuse myself first."

Hopkins immediately said, "Go ahead, go ahead. Remember to go find Lawrence when you're done. Don't go alone."

Thompson looked at his old friend who wanted to pack up and send his students away, and said, "Why haven't I seen you care about students so much before?"

"I suddenly want to care now, is that not okay?"

The two walked out bantering, and Hopkins agreed to everything Thompson said, except when he asked about Lu Youyou, he refused to give a word.

He also wanted Lu Youyou to stay and apply for his doctorate, so how could he let MIT snatch her away!

In the attached lecture hall on the other side, Lawrence had just finished his speech.

Lu Youyou only had time to listen to the tail end of it, but from his expression one could tell that the speech must have gone smoothly.

Wearing a smart suit and gold-rimmed glasses, Lawrence today looks more like a Wall Street investment banker than a scholar.

After stepping down from the stage, he walked over to Lu Youyou and congratulated her without mentioning himself: "Congratulations!"

Lu Youyou smiled and said, "You too."

"Where's the professor? He's not with you?"

"The professor has an appointment with Mr. Thompson from MIT."

Lawrence nodded in understanding. The teacher was handing the junior sister over to him.

"Come on, I'll take you to eat the most famous smoked beef sandwich in New York."

Lu Youyou knew which one he was talking about, Katz's Delicatessen, the king of sandwiches in New York, which opened in 1888 and is still standing strong after another forty years.

She had been to New York many times in her previous life, but either she had forgotten or was too busy, so she never had the chance to go. Now, time has gone back to the 1980s to taste this old restaurant that is about to turn 100 years old.

Lawrence walked straight to the parking lot and looked at the car that had been parked there at some unknown time. Only then did Lu Youyou realize that this senior brother's home was in New York.

Lawrence walked through the streets of New York City like a familiar figure and soon arrived at Katz's Delicatessen on the Lower East Side.

"I've been eating here since I was a kid. The smoked beef sandwich, double meat, with Reuben sauce and sauerkraut, every time I'm unhappy I order one and it makes me happy again."

It was dinner time when they arrived and there was already a long line at the door.

Lawrence is not usually a talkative person, but when he got here, he was obviously in a different state.

There was a menu hanging on the glass window, and Lawrence began to talk about each dish.

Lu Youyou couldn't help laughing. Everyone has his own Abebe, but Lawrence's is special, it's a beef sandwich and sauerkraut.

It took about twenty minutes before it was their turn. There were no seats in the store, so they packed up their food and went back to the car.

"Try it quickly and see if you like it?" Lawrence looked at Lu Youyou with expectant eyes.

The beef is marinated in a secret marinade for three weeks, then slowly roasted at low temperature for three days with spices, stewed for three hours, and finally steamed.

It’s quite salty but just right in the bread, and the smoky flavor doesn’t overpower the meat.

The meat slices are thick, but tender and not dry. The lean meat is slightly fibrous but not sticky when you bite it. The edges are charred black with a bit of fat, and the fat aroma is just right.

I didn't expect that bacon could be so soft and tender that it almost melts in your mouth, yet still springy.

Lu Youyou took a bite and nodded under Lawrence's eager gaze.

"I just knew that everyone would love a smoked beef sandwich."

Lawrence then opened his own portion and took a big bite with satisfaction.
