Chapter 163 Song Hengjue Demands a Recognition

A cold wind howled outside the window, while the car was filled with hot air.

After an unknown amount of time, everything finally quieted down. Yang Qingheng's face was flushed as she fell asleep. Song Hengjue breathed a sigh of relief, his thin lips brushing against her reddened ear. He then casually picked up the sweater from the floor and carefully wiped it clean for her.

He opened the car window for a while before waving to the outside.

Fang Nan kept his eyes straight ahead, gritted his teeth, got into the car, fastened his seatbelt, and drove off, sneezing twice violently.

He cursed Song Hengjue a thousand times in his heart.

The two policemen had already been picked up by the car arranged by Song Hengjue, leaving only him, the unjust victim and driver, outside in the cold northwest wind for several hours.

Upon arriving at the hotel, Song Hengjue, clutching his soaking wet sweater, walked towards a nearby trash can. He lifted it up, about to throw it in, hesitated for a moment, and then carried it inside anyway.

After a series of thrilling events and several hours of strenuous physical labor, Yang Qingheng slept fitfully until the morning of the next day.

The blazing sun shone through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and she closed her eyes uncomfortably.

The man came in carrying breakfast and strode over to close the curtains.

Yang Qingheng was stunned. Memories of yesterday flooded back instantly. Her face stiffened, and she pulled back the covers to take a look. She was wearing a set of pajamas that she didn't know where she came from.

Song Hengjue tightened his grip on the curtains, coughed lightly with his fist against his lips, his eyes darting around, stealing a glance before quickly looking away. He pointed to the breakfast on the table: "Jiang Province doesn't have tofu pudding, so I bought you some white fungus soup and pumpkin millet porridge, plus a few meat buns. Eat whichever you like, I..."

Before he could finish speaking, the woman in front of him stood up and went straight into the restroom.

When he came out, he had changed into the shirt he had prepared. The two sat facing each other, and the rare quiet moment made Song Hengjue feel uncomfortable, especially after their intimate contact yesterday.

Yang Qingheng was starving. She simply nodded to him and buried her head in the porridge bowl, drinking two bowls before feeling full.

Song Hengjue was gnawing on the few meat buns she had rejected when she saw her stop. He then thoughtfully handed her a handkerchief from his pocket.

Yang Qingheng gave him a strange look, staring at him until he felt guilty before finally speaking: "How's the police interrogation of those two people from yesterday going?"

Getting down to business, Song Hengjue sat up straight: "The police have investigated and said that the two men were angry because you intercepted their order, so they deliberately retaliated."

"You mean, they admit they're in cahoots with human traffickers?" Yang Qingheng raised an eyebrow.

As the two were talking, the police station called and asked them to go to the police station to give a statement.

Yang Qingheng stepped into the police station for the second time, her feelings complicated. She sat down at the table in the office with Song Hengjue.

"You know the statements of the two kidnappers?"

Yang Qingheng nodded: "I know."

The policeman, who had been serious, was too young. Upon seeing the two men in front of him, the events of the previous night involuntarily came to mind, and his face flushed. He tried to remain serious and asked, "What are your thoughts?"

“It’s like this,” Yang Qingheng’s fingernails tapped unconsciously on the table, “I saved a child in Huai City before.”

"Our police station has already checked with the police station over there." The policeman nodded.

Yang Qingheng pursed her lips and rested her fist on her chin: "That's the problem. Those two kidnappers said they were accomplices of human traffickers. If that's the case, then they were just greedy. But when I offered them money, they were indeed tempted, but in the end they didn't make the deal with me."

"They said it was for revenge." The police officer listened intently, his eyes fixed on Yang Qingheng's face.

Yang Qingheng nodded and continued, "That's one point of suspicion. Another one is that since they are kidnappers and don't know me at all, why would they take my luggage to check into a hotel? It's clearly an attempt to avoid my husband's notice. Isn't that a contradiction?"

The police officer sat up straight and nodded in agreement: "You mean... you think the people behind the kidnappers know you, and that you're just saying you're with the human traffickers to cover your tracks and protect the people behind you."

Yang Qingheng nodded.

"It's certainly very possible, but right now it's just a guess." The policeman sighed. The two kidnappers looked like seasoned veterans, slippery and cunning. No matter how you interrogated them, they always had a well-thought-out logical response.

It still needs to be reviewed slowly.

Yang Qingheng pursed her lips, went inside with the police to give a statement, and then walked out with Song Hengjue.

The kidnapping matter was over, and she needed to hurry to the south, so she couldn't stay here any longer. She went back to pack her luggage and headed to the train station.

When Song Hengjue came in carrying a lot of things, he saw the woman packing her luggage efficiently.

Fang Nan was surprised and grabbed his forearm: "Why did you buy so much food?"

“The food on the train isn’t good, and Qingheng doesn’t like it, so I’m taking some for her to eat on the train.” Song Hengjue said matter-of-factly, stuffing the items one by one into the large cloth bag.

They've all started calling her Qingheng?

Fang Nan was silent for a moment, feeling that something was amiss, and pointed in Yang Qingheng's direction: "You're going south with her?"

"Otherwise what? Wherever she goes, I'll go." Song Hengjue glanced at him inexplicably. He had finally gained a legitimate status, and he wasn't out of his mind. Naturally, he wanted to stick close to Yang Qingheng and foster their relationship. Otherwise, what if that woman went to the south for so long and came back not recognizing him?

Fang Nan glanced at Yang Qingheng's indifferent face, then at Song Hengjue's love-struck, fervent expression, and slapped his forehead, finally realizing what was wrong.
