Yang Qingheng nodded: "Okay, come back soon."
These words stunned Yao Ying for a few seconds. Yang Qingheng was a city girl. After she entered the family, her son was treated like a precious gem, and she was never allowed to leave the house. Why did she agree so readily today? Did the sun rise in the west?
But the outcome was ultimately good.
Because of this, Yao Ying was unusually kind to Yang Qingheng, and even made her breakfast the next morning before leaving.
"Qingheng!" Sister-in-law Sun called out, hurrying over. "Why are you here today?"
“My mom went back to her parents’ home,” Yang Qingheng said, rubbing her nose. “I’ve never done this before. If I don’t know how, sister-in-law, can you teach me?”
Sister-in-law Sun patted her chest and assured her, "What's the big deal? Planting corn is very simple. It's just hoeing the ground and sowing the seeds. If you can't finish, I'll help you!"
"Sister-in-law, you're so kind." Yang Qingheng hugged her arm.
Her voice was sweet and charming, making Sister-in-law Sun shudder. She couldn't help but wonder why Song Hengjue insisted on marrying a city girl; even she, a woman, couldn't resist that voice.
"Come on, let's line up to get our tools. We're about to assign tasks." Seeing everyone heading in one direction, Sister Sun quickly pulled Yang Qingheng to follow.
"Yang Qingheng, two buckets, a carrying pole." Li Jiaoyan paused deliberately before uttering these words.
Sister-in-law Sun frowned: "Isn't fetching water a job that men used to do? Why are you making Qingheng do it?"
"She's not being asked to fetch water, she's being asked to fetch cow dung!" Huo Xiuxiu burst out laughing, giving Yang Qingheng a mocking look.
She used to be quite arrogant. Let her spend a day picking cow dung to see who she shouldn't mess with.
Li Jiaoyan tacitly agreed with Huo Xiuxiu's words: "Today, all the men went to dig irrigation ditches. There aren't enough people, so this is a reasonable arrangement. If the other women can do this work, why can't she? Is she more noble than others?"
“That’s right, Sister-in-law Sun, if you want to go, let Jiaoyan arrange for you to go too. That’s two centimeters more than loosening the soil.” Huo Xiuxiu said proudly.
Li Jiaoyan nodded, picked up her pen, and was about to fill in Sister-in-law Sun's name in the fertilizer selection column.
"Alright, you go loosen the soil. It's just carrying manure. I'll give it a try." Seeing that Sister Sun was about to roll up her sleeves, Yang Qingheng stopped her, went inside to get two buckets, and pulled her away.
Sun's sister-in-law was getting anxious and said, "How can you do this kind of work? Why don't I switch with you? At least I have some strength."
Yang Qingheng shook her head: "No need, you go do your own work. Today she insists that I carry cow dung. If you come to help, she will only find an excuse to make trouble."
"That Li Jiaoyan is so wicked!" Sister-in-law Sun gritted her teeth, wishing she could chew Li Jiaoyan up.
Yang Qingheng chuckled: "Alright, I'm the one who's been wronged, why are you getting more upset than me? Go do your work."
After saying that, he carried two buckets and walked towards the cowshed in the village.
As soon as she entered, a nauseating smell hit her, and Yang Qingheng turned pale, almost fainting from the stench.
Li Jiaoyan, you're picking cow dung, huh? Just you wait!
Yang Qingheng ran out and quickly rolled up the handkerchief in her pocket and tied it to her mouth and nose. Although she could still smell the stench, she felt much better.
He gritted his teeth and rushed in, filled a few shovels, and then rushed out to get some fresh air.
A short while later, he came out swaying back and forth, carrying two buckets of cow dung.
"You vixen, you seduced someone else's man, now you've got your comeuppance!" Huo Xiuxiu blocked her path, looking very smug.
She was assigned a planting job, which only required her to follow behind others and occasionally throw a seed. Although the work points were not many, it was easy.
It was worth it for her to give Li Jiaoyan so many nice things.
Yang Qingheng rolled her eyes and walked past her.
Huo Xiuxiu frowned: "Hey, did you hear me when I spoke to you?"
"Who's barking like that? It's so annoying!" Yang Qingheng shouted.
He goes crazy every day when he catches her; what else could he be but a mad dog?
Huo Xiuxiu's face turned pale and then flushed, a truly fascinating sight.
Watching Yang Qingheng's retreating figure, a wicked idea suddenly flashed in her eyes.
As Yang Qingheng approached the earthen slope, she ran over and kicked her.
Yang Qingheng was startled and had no time to react. She rolled down the slope with a tumble. Her head throbbed, and she was nearly knocked unconscious by the blow from the carrying pole. Her mind went blank.
"Oh dear, Yang Qingheng, how could you be so careless!" Huo Xiuxiu exclaimed, her tone clearly gloating.
Sister-in-law Sun was startled and dropped her hoe, running over to them: "Qingheng, how are you?"
After saying that, he glared at Huo Xiuxiu and grabbed her by the collar: "Are you sick in the head?"
"What did I do? She fell down by herself." Huo Xiuxiu stubbornly refused to admit it.
Sister-in-law Sun spat, "She fell down as soon as you went over, how could it not be your fault!"
Yang Qingheng had recovered by now, and slapped Huo Xiuxiu across the face, her eyes chillingly cold: "Huo Xiuxiu, are you fucking desperate to go to jail?!"
"Yang Qingheng, how could you hit someone before the truth of the matter is even clear!" Li Jiaoyan ran over and loudly accused, "You said she tripped you, who saw that? Did any of you see that?" She turned to look at the women who had been working nearby.
Since they belonged to the village chief's family, none of them dared to offend them, and they shook their heads: "No."
"Yang Qingheng, you've gone too far!" Li Jiaoyan pointed at Yang Qingheng's nose. "Apologize to Xiuxiu right now."
The commotion attracted the attention of others, and everyone rushed over.
The village chief's wife looked at the slap mark on Huo Xiuxiu's face, then at Yang Qingheng, her eyes revealing a hint of dissatisfaction: "What happened?"
