Chapter 2 Eavesdropping

"Ugh." Yang Qingheng's mind went blank for a moment, her teeth ached from biting the sheet, and her body trembled uncontrollably. It took her a while to recover.

Hearing the sounds of water coming from outside, his old face turned red.

She...she just made such a fool of herself!

Song Hengjue sneered at the woman pretending to be dead on the bed, and ruthlessly pulled back the covers: "Get up and explain yourself."

Yang Qingheng touched her face, her eyes darting around. She knew she couldn't fool him with her words, so she obediently sat up.

"This time it really wasn't my fault. Blame your childhood sweetheart, she conspired with Gu Yi to drug me,"

Song Hengjue sneered: "If you don't go to meet him in secret, will the drug appear in your cup out of thin air?"

"Instead of asking your childhood sweetheart why she drugged me, you're causing trouble for me. If Song Hengjue is mentally ill, go to the hospital for treatment. Don't go crazy here!" Yang Qingheng couldn't believe it. She laughed in anger, gritted her teeth, grabbed a pillow, and threw it hard at his back.

"Mind your own business." Song Hengjue said coldly, kicking away the pillow that flew at him. The atmosphere was chillingly oppressive.

The sarcastic tone infuriated Yang Qingheng, leaving her momentarily speechless: "Get out!"

outside the house.

Erniu shrank back as he listened to the crackling sounds and Yang Qingheng's angry roars inside.

That tigress is a tigress; she actually went to great lengths to marry such a shrew. Apart from his brother, no normal person would have such a romantic interest.

Upon seeing Song Hengjue come out, he jumped up in a flash: "Brother Heng!"

Song Hengjue's face was still dark, but it softened a bit when he saw him: "What is it?"

Erniu glanced around warily, then sneakily leaned over and whispered, "Tang Bainian said we'll discuss it again tomorrow, and told us not to break our promise."

"Hmm, apologize to him, and invite him for drinks another time." Song Hengjue rubbed his temples, feeling a bit of a headache.

Erniu sighed, his tone filled with undisguised disgust: "If you ask me, you shouldn't have married this troublemaker in the first place. She's always causing trouble."

If that shameless woman hadn't secretly taken Heng Ge's money to spend on other men, they wouldn't be in debt and have caused this trouble again. If it weren't for Tang Bainian's good relationship with them, they would have lost another business partner.

"Alright, what's the point of saying all this now?" Song Hengjue glanced at him indifferently and strode outside.

Erniu quickly followed, his voice urgent: "Brother Heng, what you said about getting a divorce isn't true, is it?"

Song Hengjue coldly replied, "How could it be fake?"

Seeing his resolute tone, which didn't seem like he was joking, Erniu scratched his head, his mouth almost stretching to the back of his head in a grin: "Big brother, you've finally seen clearly. That woman is not good enough for you at all. It's good that you've divorced her, it's good that you've divorced her."

He felt a strange sense of schadenfreude; he wanted to see how Yang Qingheng, that fickle, lazy woman, would survive without his Heng-ge.

"Achoo!" Yang Qingheng had just put on her shoes when she couldn't help but sneeze loudly.

I touched my nose and inexplicably felt my ears getting hot.

I wonder who's been talking about her.

Yang Qingheng thought to herself, rubbing her aching stomach as she staggered into the kitchen.

The place was empty; even the iron pot was rusty, and it looked like there was nothing to eat.

I don't even know how long it's been since I last fired a fire.

Thinking about this made her feel a little embarrassed.

She got together with Gu Yi when she was seventeen.

Don't be fooled by the fact that Gu Yi is now an educated youth in Songjia Village. She has at least attended high school and considers herself half an educated person. She plans to eat government-subsidized food with Gu Yi in the future, so naturally she looks down on Song Hengjue, a peasant.

What's more, this marriage was something her parents tricked into by asking for a dowry, so she hated the marriage even more. In order to force Song Hengjue to divorce, she naturally made a huge scene.

She deliberately spent money extravagantly and even openly set up a small pot at home, saying that unless she died, she would never eat at the same table as Song Hengjue, a peasant, and successfully angered her mother-in-law to the point of near death.

Song Hengjue had no choice but to coax his mother to go back to her parents' home for a few days.

What kind of things has she done?!

Yang Qingheng's face stung, and she wished she could rush back to six months ago and slap herself twice across the face.

Serves you right for being so foul-mouthed! Now look what happened, you've offended everyone!

Feeling like crying but having no tears, and so hungry that her vision was blurry, Yang Qingheng sighed helplessly, resigned herself to her fate, washed her small pot, and planned to cook some porridge to fill her stomach first.

Upon seeing this, my mood worsened. The dark rice jar was already empty, indicating that they had no idea where their next meal would come from.

Song Hengjue just left; I don't know if he'll be back tonight.

Yang Qingheng was now in a dilemma. She had just argued with Song Hengjue, and he had said such hurtful things that it was impossible for her to apologize unless he killed her!

She simply didn't bother going to the vegetable garden to pick vegetables, and instead cooked a bowl of porridge and ate it quickly, finally feeling a bit warmer.

She was probably so hungry that she could taste a sweet rice flavor in the plain white porridge. If she wasn't worried about not having dinner that night, she would have devoured the rest of the pot.

The most urgent thing was to go to town to buy some rice. After Yang Qingheng finished eating, she hurried back to her room and searched the wardrobe inside and out. Finally, she found two ten-yuan bills in a metal box hidden in the wardrobe.

She didn't know if it was hers or Song Hengjue's, but whoever it was, at least she had the money to buy grain.

The next day, Yang Qingheng was thinking about buying grain, so she got up early, boiled a sweet potato, ate it, and went outside.

Instead of heading directly to the village entrance, she took several small paths and walked straight towards the village chief's house.
