Chapter 65 Disappointment, This Kind of Life Is Meaningless

"No wonder you're never home these days, turns out you're out here shopping with your sweetheart."

The sudden sound made Song Hengjue shudder. He felt inexplicably guilty, but he quickly found it funny. What did he have to be guilty about?

"Why did you come here today, sister-in-law?" Xu Lan's eyes were slightly red, and she pouted aggrievedly. "Sister-in-law, are you unhappy because Hengjue accompanied me shopping? If you mind him buying me a dress, then you can ask him to buy you one too."

What a clever move to turn the tables! Anyone who didn't know better would think that she, the legitimate wife, was the outsider.

Yang Qingheng sneered and grabbed Song Hengjue's hand: "Of course not. Since you treat Hengjue as your brother, then he is naturally my sister too. Have you picked out enough dresses today? Do you want your sister-in-law to buy you two?"

This woman must be crazy.

Xu Lan was stunned. She had seen her man shopping with someone else and he was still so calm. Was he out of his mind?

Looking at their hands clasped tightly together, she could barely contain the intense jealousy in her eyes. She gritted her teeth and said, "Okay, thank you, sister-in-law."

"Of course, little sister." Yang Qingheng sneered, deliberately emphasizing the word "little sister," as if she were not calling Xu Lan, but rather chewing on Song Hengjue's flesh.

Her fingertips were digging tightly into Song Hengjue's palm.

The man gasped, a vein throbbing on his forehead, and forced a stiff smile: "Yes, let your sister-in-law help you choose; she has good taste."

"Then I'll have to choose carefully." Xu Lan gritted her teeth, and looking at the two of them being so intimate, she suddenly regretted it. She shouldn't have deliberately let Yang Qingheng see them.

They really shot themselves in the foot.

Yang Qingheng watched as she actually started picking carefully. She glanced at the man beside her with a blank face and a strong sense of unfamiliarity welled up in her heart. She felt powerless and sad.

He clearly wanted to give her his heart and life in his past life, and she has been trying her best to do better in this life, so why has he changed?

This kind of life is really meaningless.

Even if we win against Xu Lan today, so what? Even without Xu Lan, there will still be Li Lan, Wang Lan, and Zhao Lan. Their conflict has never been about Xu Lan, but about Song Hengjue and herself.

"Where are you going?" Song Hengjue asked when he noticed the woman was about to leave. When he met her indifferent eyes, his breath caught in his throat, and a strong sense of panic welled up in his heart.

Yang Qingheng forced a smile: "Mom is still waiting for me at home for dinner. You guys go shopping on your own."

After taking a few steps, she took a deep breath and turned back: "Come home for dinner tomorrow, Mom said she misses you."

Song Hengjue instinctively wanted to refuse, but for some reason, his mind was filled with the woman's suddenly indifferent gaze, and he inexplicably agreed: "Okay."

Yang Qingheng's eyes crinkled into a smile as she turned and left.

Xu Lan peeked out from behind a pile of clothes racks, looked around but couldn't find Yang Qingheng, and pursed her lips: "Yang Qingheng is gone?"

"I'm leaving. Are you still going to pick and choose? I'm leaving." Song Hengjue said impatiently.

"I'm not picky, it's no fun." Xu Lan pouted, picked up her bag, and strode forward.

After taking several detours, the two finally found their way into a small alley.

"What brings you two here today?" Master Xu's eyes lit up as he saw the two enter, his gaze practically glued to the box in Song Hengjue's hand. "What good stuff did you bring me today?"

He rubbed his hands together, eager to get started.

“This is some good stuff,” Song Hengjue said, taking a sip of tea before slowly opening the box. “It was recently developed. Take a look.”

Electric fan!

Master Xu was so shocked that his eyes almost popped out of his head. Pointing at the electric fan, his voice trembled with excitement: "Did you two really develop this?"

"How could it be fake?" Song Hengjue glanced at him indifferently.

This time, Master Xu was completely convinced and patted him on the shoulder, laughing heartily: "Good, good, you truly lived up to your reputation!"

Electric fans are a rare commodity these days. The technology is controlled by those large state-owned factories. Now that they can actually manufacture them, aren't they going to make a fortune?

A hint of pleasure appeared in Song Hengjue's eyes. Instead of taking credit, he said, "Xu Lan deserves a lot of credit for this technological development. Without her help, we wouldn't have been able to develop the fan so quickly."

"I never expected you, little girl, to have so much knowledge," Master Xu exclaimed in surprise, then burst into laughter. "You're no less knowledgeable than your brother."

Upon hearing this, everyone present fell silent for a moment. Song Hengjue frowned, carefully observing Xu Lan's expression, and said unhappily, "Why did you bring this up?"

"Yes, yes, I'm bad at talking," Master Xu said, giving himself a mock slap before quickly changing the subject, "Can you produce this stuff long-term? What are your plans?"

Song Hengjue: "Yes, we can supply you with fifty of these fans a month. I'll find the market for the rest myself and give you a discounted price of seventy yuan per unit. How much you sell is your business; we won't interfere."

"Okay, let's do it that way." Master Xu was generous. He knew how Song Hengjue treated his brothers, and he was sure that Song Hengjue would give him the lowest price.

He casually mentioned, "Such a great thing deserves a celebration. It's been a while since the brothers have gotten together. How about we find a place to have a drink?"

“Okay.” Song Hengjue had no objection.

"Then bring your sister-in-law over, so everyone can get to know her. You've been married for so long, and your brothers still don't know what she looks like," Master Xu strongly suggested.

Xu Lan frowned: "Why invite her here? They're getting a divorce anyway. It'll only make things more awkward if everyone is still not familiar with her after the divorce."

Master Xu was surprised, but he didn't hear Song Hengjue refute him, so he understood.

Seeing Xu Lan's jealous expression, he smiled and said something nice: "That's why we shouldn't have invited her. Hengjue, what are your plans after divorcing your sister-in-law? I think you should give it a try with Xu Lan. You two are both tech-savvy, you'll definitely have a lot to talk about and be very compatible."

He meant it sincerely when he said they were a good match. Master Xu admired strength, and compared to Song Hengjue's wife, who was just a pretty face, he felt that Xu Lan and his brother were a better match.

It would be a shame if Song Hengjue were with a woman who knew nothing.
