“Ms. Feng Mei,” Yang Qingheng said.
The woman opposite her leaned back in her chair, casually glancing up at her with a malicious look: "I didn't expect you to actually get away. What, is this your husband next to you? Does he know you've been sleeping with other men?"
She smiled, but her eyes held a chilling coldness. Her rough fingertips tapped the table repeatedly, as if she were waiting to watch a dramatic scene of a couple turning against each other.
However, she was destined to be disappointed. Upon hearing this, Tang Bainian did not immediately look at Yang Qingheng with suspicion. Instead, his expression suddenly changed as he said, "Instead of spreading rumors, you should think more about how many more good days you have left."
Feng Mei was surprised when she didn't get the result she expected.
In contrast to Tang Bainian's fury, Yang Qingheng remained calm. She even patted Tang Bainian's hand to comfort him. So what if the story was false? She was a victim who had never done anything wrong. Why should she feel ashamed because of such a thing?
Damn them, those two bedbugs that crawled out of the gutter.
“Li Mei, you’d rather admit you’re a human trafficker than expose the person behind you. The person behind you must be someone special. Let me guess, her name is… Qiao…” Yang Qingheng raised an eyebrow, not finishing her sentence.
Just one word is enough.
Just like the police said, the person on the other end was not easily fooled. His expression did not change, but instead revealed a disdainful smile for a second, as if he were looking at an idiot: "If you came here today just to repeat the police's questions, I think we have nothing to say."
“Of course not,” Yang Qingheng smiled slightly, casually placing her hands on the table in front of her. “I know you’ve taken a lot of money from the people behind you. To be honest, I can give you that money too, as long as you give her away. I can only give you more, not less.”
"I told you that day, some things can't be solved with money. You little bitch, take your money and get out of here." The woman got impatient, slammed her hand on the table and stood up, only to be forcefully pushed back into her seat by the policeman behind her.
"Behave yourself!"
Yang Qingheng looked at the woman opposite her calmly, her expression unchanged.
The policeman glanced at the time and reminded her again, "Ms. Yang, you have three minutes left."
Yang Qingheng glanced at the time, met the woman's resentful face, took out a photo from her bag and threw it on the table: "You really think I can't do anything to you?"
The photo shows a baby wearing a cotton-padded jacket, looking about two years old, standing awkwardly in front of a wall.
Her eyebrows and eyes bear some resemblance to Li Mei's.
A flicker of surprise flashed across Tang Bainian's eyes. So that's how she had asked him to find the photo earlier.
Yang Qingheng accurately captured the fleeting panic on the woman's face, and with a clear understanding of the situation, she pointed at the child's face in the photo and said sarcastically, "I abide by the law, but if I want to torture a child, I don't need to use any illegal methods. Since Ms. Li has also admitted to being a human trafficker, I think that as the child's honest classmate, she also has the right to know the truth."
The child of a human trafficker—it's easy to imagine how heinous it is to pin such a crime on a child.
The woman opposite Yang Qingheng's expression changed, her face contorted like a demon, and she roared at her: "Try touching him, and I'll kill your whole family."
"By the time you come out, it will probably be more than ten or twenty years from now," Yang Qingheng chuckled, brushing a stray hair behind her ear. Her smile was beautiful, but extremely eerie. "Tsk, what a pity. Such a young child. I wonder if he can withstand my teasing."
The woman's chest heaved with anger, and she finally faced reality: "I'll make a deal with you."
…………
A few minutes later, Yang Qingheng walked out of the interrogation room with the photo in her hand.
After hearing the description inside, several police officers swarmed over: "We've been investigating for so long and we didn't know she had a child. How did you know?"
There were even photos of children. She did what the police couldn't do, which makes them seem completely useless.
The police officers exchanged glances, feeling somewhat embarrassed, but more than anything, they were curious about Yang Qingheng.
“I don’t know,” Yang Qingheng shrugged. “How would I know things that you don’t know?”
"Then... what about the photo you just took?" The young policeman was completely bewildered.
Yang Qingheng burst out laughing: "There are plenty of photo studios that can take any kind of picture you want. Why would I need to look it up myself?"
It's just a photo that bears some resemblance to Li Mei; she could even find a photo that looks exactly like her.
The young policeman stared in disbelief, pointing towards the interrogation room, unable to comprehend it at all; this woman didn't seem to be mentally challenged.
The young, clueless officers didn't understand, but the older, more experienced police officers immediately grasped the point, slapping their thighs and exclaiming, "You've got quite a few unorthodox methods, girl!"
“It doesn’t matter if it’s a white cat or a black cat, as long as it catches mice, it’s a good cat. My method may be shameful, but it works,” Yang Qingheng blushed, scratched her head, and seeing that the young police officers still didn’t understand, she simply explained it to them clearly, “You told me before that this Li Mei had been married to a man and hadn’t been home for several years. The other day when she was with us in the warehouse, I saw that she had a peace charm. I know about this thing. It’s a unique custom in Teng Province. It’s usually worn by children when they are just over one year old. I came up with this method to take advantage of the situation.”
The police officers slapped their foreheads and finally figured it out.
Yang Qingheng meant that Li Mei's blessing of peace and safety indicated that she might have a child, and since she had just divorced a few years ago, the child's age would match up.
Since she rarely comes home, she might not even recognize her child now, let alone a photograph, or even if the child stood right in front of her.
The group exchanged glances and remained silent.
It really is an unorthodox method, but damnably effective.
"When the neighboring city sent these two people over, they mentioned you, saying you're quick-witted and have a sharp mind, making you suitable to work with us. I didn't believe them, but now it seems they were absolutely right. So, Mr. Yang, are you interested?" The older policeman patted Yang Qingheng on the shoulder and laughed heartily.
Yang Qingheng smiled slightly, her face flushed: "Uncle, you're joking. If I were to use my unorthodox methods to solve cases, it would be a laughing stock."
"What a pity, what a pity." The policeman chuckled.
I didn't take it to heart. My compliment to Yang Qingheng earlier was just a polite gesture. How could she possibly give up being the boss of a big company to be their colleague?
Tang Bainian looked at Yang Qingheng's polite demeanor and shook his head with amusement.
