Once outside the courtyard gate, Song Hengjue's view was blocked at the corner. Yang Qingheng took the opportunity to release Tang Bainian's hand, touched her nose with her fingers, and said somewhat embarrassedly, "I got a little emotional and didn't think before I acted. I'm really sorry."
It's one thing for couples to argue and gossip about each other's personalities and families behind their backs, but to let the other person hear it and even use them as tools is unacceptable. Yang Qingheng feels that even if Tang Bainian points his finger at her and curses her on the spot, she deserves it.
The reason for his emotional outburst was, of course, because of Song Hengjue.
The slight flame that had risen in Tang Bainian's heart was extinguished in an instant, leaving only a chilling dripping sensation.
But on the surface, he pretended not to care, gave a gentle smile, and comforted her instead: "It's okay, I know. I was just trying to annoy Hengjue. It's just a little tiff. Don't apologize. Don't be so formal."
Yang Qingheng believed her and relaxed her tense shoulders: "By the way, what brings you here today?"
"You said Auntie was sick, and I happened to get off work early today, so I came to see her." Unexpectedly, I stumbled upon the couple arguing.
Thinking about how the two of them had just talked about getting a divorce, Tang Bainian's smile became a little more genuine.
“You’re so kind,” Yang Qingheng said. “It’s a pity that the old lady had already retired when I left. Why don’t you come another day?”
Tang Bainian's trip wasn't specifically to see the old lady, so he wasn't disappointed: "Alright, I'll come again tomorrow."
As he spoke, he pointed to the car parked outside: "Didn't you say you were going back to the guesthouse? Get in the car, I'll give you a ride home."
These days, there are no cameras, management is inadequate, and public security is poor. Yang Qingheng didn't try to be tough and opened the passenger door: "Thank you for your help."
Upon arriving at the guesthouse, Tang Bainian suddenly remembered something and hurriedly caught up with Yang Qingheng: "By the way, I've got the certificate you asked for. Whenever you need it, I'll bring it to you."
He had originally planned to talk to her tomorrow, but going back and forth three times would be too deliberate. He didn't want Yang Qingheng to see through his thoughts, so it wasn't the right time yet.
Yang Qingheng pursed her lips, her eyes revealing an unreadable emotion: "Keep it with you for now, I'll ask you for it when I need it."
“Okay, just call me whenever you need it.” Tang Bainian nodded, watching Yang Qingheng’s figure disappear at the top of the stairs before driving off in the opposite direction.
Tang Bainian indeed came the next day, not late at night like the previous day, but early in the morning.
As soon as Yang Qingheng entered the hospital, she saw him walking towards her carrying a fruit basket.
"Oh, what a coincidence! Let's go in together." Yang Qingheng raised an eyebrow.
Tang Bainian wore a crisp shirt today, with one button undone at the collar in a carefree manner. When you got close, you could vaguely see half of his collarbone. His whole body was full of subtle charm, making him even more handsome than when he wore his police uniform.
Unfortunately, Yang Qingheng's mind was not on this at all; she strode towards the ward.
Song Hengjue sat on a chair by the bed, propped up with a table, and accompanied Yao Ying to drink porridge. Hearing the door creak, he paused with his chopsticks. When he saw Tang Bainian's attire today, his pupils contracted, and he subconsciously looked at Yang Qingheng.
Yang Qingheng noticed the man's gaze, rolled her eyes at him, and pulled out a chair to sit on the other side of the bed: "Mom, Tang Bainian has come to see you."
Yao Ying smiled faintly and pointed to the chair next to her, warmly inviting, "Bainian, what brings you to visit this old woman today? Please make yourself at home and don't be shy." But the smile didn't reach her eyes.
Tang Bainian's gentle personality would be extremely popular with women of Yao Ying's age. In the past, Yao Ying would have thought this young man was quite good, but now, she inexplicably disliked him.
Especially when Tang Bainian looked at Yang Qingheng, although his eyes showed no other emotion, she inexplicably felt that his gaze was not innocent.
Tang Bainian reached out and placed the large and small bags he was carrying on the table: "My aunt said you were sick and told me I had to come and see you. Qingheng said you were already asleep yesterday, so I didn't come until today."
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed the only two chairs left in the ward and deliberately walked around to sit down next to Song Hengjue, right opposite Yang Qingheng. The woman could meet his gaze as soon as she looked up.
Song Hengjue's eyelids twitched. For the first time, he realized that Tang Bainian actually had the potential to be a peacock. If he hadn't been here today, would this shameless guy have even taken his pants off?
He spoke too soon yesterday. He was all dressed up and looked rather improper. He's already acting like a lecher in front of Yang Qingheng now, and he might use the same behavior to seduce other women in the future. He's practically a cheater in the making, and he's not suitable for that stupid woman, Yang Qingheng.
Absolutely not! He must have been possessed by a ghost yesterday to say such mindless things.
Seeing that everyone was sitting there silently, and the atmosphere in the ward was becoming increasingly strange, Yang Qingheng's eyes flashed, and she smiled at Tang Bainian: "I bought some apples at the supply and marketing cooperative the day before yesterday. They're very sweet. Officer Tang, would you like to try one?"
With her other hand, she picked up the fruit knife on the table, clearly intending to peel one for him herself.
Upon hearing this, not only Song Hengjue but also Yao Ying looked over.
Tang Bainian's heart skipped a beat, and he glanced at the apple with his head slightly: "Then..." Thank you for your trouble.
“Apples contain many active substances that are good for the liver. It’s even better for someone like you who often works late night shifts. No need to peel them, just wash them and eat them directly.” Song Hengjue snatched the apple and threw it into Tang Bainian’s arms.
Yao Ying didn't understand what "active substances" meant, but she kept agreeing: "Yes, yes, apple peels are good for your health. Bai Nian, you can eat them directly. I didn't peel mine when I ate it this morning."
