Chapter 299 The Truth

Yang Qingheng patted his shoulder, pointed to the white porridge on the table, and said lightly, "Drink it, white porridge is good for your health."

She slowly and deliberately took Song Hengjue's forearm and went upstairs.

"What did you just say to him that scared him like that?" Song Hengjue raised an eyebrow. Apart from when he was being beaten, he had never seen his lawless brother-in-law with such a terrified expression.

"Guess?" Yang Qingheng chuckled, looking rather smug, and pointed at his nose. "Don't try to distract me. Have you forgotten how you tormented me the other day? You, go and run the bathwater!"

Finally, she added, "Oh, I need it to be 37 degrees Celsius. I don't want to wash it if it's too hot."

Song Hengjue resigned himself to his fate, withdrew his foot from the bathroom, and went downstairs to get a thermometer.

Yang Cheng became increasingly frightened as he thought about it. He hesitated outside the door for more than ten minutes before entering Gao Xiao'e's room.

The next day was the weekend, and Yang Qingheng was unusually lazy, only getting ready for bed at ten o'clock.

Thinking of the instructions given yesterday, she casually called Fang Nan: "I asked you to go to Mom's to pick up the child and return him to Xu Lan. Did you deliver him?"

Fang Nan had just come out of Xu Lan's place and gotten into his car: "I've delivered it. I always do things properly. I watched Xu Lan take the child inside before I left."

Yang Qingheng nodded in satisfaction: "Thank you for your help. I'll treat you to a meal later."

This child should have been returned to Xu Lan long ago. If she keeps him for too long, the old lady might develop feelings for him, and then returning him won't be such a simple matter.

They couldn't find Xu Lan for a long time, even after sending in a private investigator, but they still couldn't find her. They only got news in the last two days.

"You're too kind. My brother knows about this, right?" Fang Nan coughed lightly.

Yang Qingheng nodded: "I'll tell him later."

However, to her surprise, without her even having to tell Song Hengjue, the two people had already come to her door that afternoon.

When Xu Lan suddenly pushed open the door, the two were huddled in the living room watching TV. The loud noise almost made Yang Qingheng shove the grapes in her hand onto Song Hengjue's face. She threw them aside, frowned, and stood up: "What are you doing here again?"

The warmth in his arms was gone, and Song Hengjue felt empty and didn't look happy.

"Aunt Yang." As soon as Xu Changchang saw Yang Qingheng, she rushed over excitedly. Just as she was about to run into Yang Qingheng's arms, Yang Qingheng took a step back, causing Xu Changchang to miss her target.

Xu Changchang was stunned, standing there somewhat at a loss, and sadly withdrew her raised hand.

Aunt Yang wasn't like this to her before.

Xu Lan sat on the sofa with her legs crossed, looking as relaxed as if she were at home: "It seems that you and our Changchang get along quite well, Miss Yang. I won't have to worry about Changchang feeling uncomfortable when she comes to stay here in the future."

"I've said it before, I won't help you raise your child. You want money, fine, but I won't take care of this child." Before Yang Qingheng could speak, Song Hengjue flatly refused.

This time, they didn't even care that Xu Changchang was still there; they showed no mercy.

Yang Qingheng didn't know what their grudge was, but seeing that he was still quite rational, she breathed a slight sigh of relief.

Xu Lan scoffed, walked around Song Hengjue, and looked at Yang Qingheng: "Miss Yang, can't you even tolerate a child?"

This sounds as if she's the one who forced Song Hengjue to be so ruthless.

Yang Qingheng frowned, about to speak, but Song Hengjue pulled her behind him first: "She has never said any of this to me. You don't need to say these things to provoke her. She won't fall for it. I'll say it again, I have already paid back what I owe you. Your future life has nothing to do with me. If you want money, name a number. If you want anything else, forget it. It's impossible. I will not agree to anything you ask for."

"Pay it back? Song Hengjue, how can you possibly pay it back? You have to raise this child whether you want to or not." These words provoked Xu Lan, and she stopped pretending, her eyes flashing with naked resentment.

Yang Qingheng felt uncomfortable watching this and planned to question Song Hengjue properly after the crazy woman left.

Xu Lan shoved Xu Changchang away and turned to leave, startling not only Xu Changchang but also causing the adults to frown.

Children are sensitive to emotions. Ignoring his aching knees, he scrambled to his feet and frantically grabbed Xu Lan's hand: "Mommy, don't leave me, Mommy..."

"Xu Changchang, even you're not going to listen to me anymore!" Xu Lan's face was terribly cold. She pushed her away forcefully, her indifferent eyes not even looking at her own child. She jumped into the car and slammed the door shut, almost pinching Xu Changchang's hand.

Song Hengjue gritted his teeth and pounded on Xu Lan's car door: "Open the door! Get out and explain yourself!"

Xu Lan stepped on the gas, and the car shot forward.

Xu Changchang never imagined that her biological mother would actually abandon her, and she frantically chased after the car, crying, "Mom, don't leave Changchang behind."

It was a solid fall, and Yang Qingheng gasped in shock.

The panicked crying sent chills down her spine. After hesitating for two seconds, she went over and helped her up: "Does it hurt? I'll get it bandaged up for you at home."

"Oh, where did this kid come from? Sure enough, men go astray when they have money. You're not going to be someone's stepmother, are you?" Gao Xiao'e, who had been watching the show for a long time, spoke up with schadenfreude.

"I think Mom still hasn't learned how to talk properly. Let her eat plain porridge for a couple more days." Yang Qingheng didn't even bother to look at her. She grabbed the first-aid kit and pulled Xu Changchang back to her room.

"I don't want you, I want my mom." Xu Changchang pulled her hand away and looked in the direction Xu Lan had left.

Yang Qingheng rolled her eyes inwardly, thinking it was as if she really wanted to take over this mess.

Thinking about it, she laughed in anger. Xu Lan's self-inflicted injury was clearly based on the fact that she and Song Hengjue couldn't bear to let the child suffer and would never abandon Xu Changchang.

Looking at Song Hengjue again, his face was indeed full of heartache.

Frustrated, Yang Qingheng asked the housekeeper to comfort Xu Changchang. She forcefully pushed Song Hengjue to the guest room next door, gritting her teeth, "Tell me, what's going on here? As your fiancée, don't I even have the right to know?"

He then pointed at Xu Changchang and said, "You sent the child to the police station. There's no reason for her to stay here any longer."

Does that mean that if Xu Lan doesn't take the child with her, they'll just keep raising the child for her?

Knowing he was in the wrong, Song Hengjue panicked when he heard Yang Qingheng's words. He grabbed her hand and pleaded, "How could you not have the right to know? I... I just didn't know how to tell you."
