Chapter 38 may be a repeat offender
The two were stopped by several thugs. One of them went towards Zheng Jiayu and her companion, but just as he was about to hit Zheng Jiayu, she grabbed his wrist and threw him to the ground.
Zheng Jiayu kicked the other man and said angrily, "With perfectly healthy hands and feet, you don't find a proper job, but dare to rob people."
After Gu Yunting and his companion dealt with the man, they turned around and saw Zheng Jiayu beating up a thug, making the thug scream in pain.
Gu Yunting hurriedly went over and looked Zheng Jiayu up and down. He was completely relieved to see that Zheng Jiayu was alright.
After crippling the man, Chen Ji went to his mother's side and looked at her with concern: "Mom, are you alright?"
Chen's mother gripped Chen Ji's hand tightly, shaking her head frantically, "I...I'm fine."
"If it weren't for Jiayu and all of you being here today, I would be dead." Chen's mother had originally gone to the county town to buy grain for storage.
As a result, Zheng Jiayu said she wanted to go too, and she also invited Gu Yunting and Chen Ji.
With the three of them around, I can be alright.
Otherwise, even if she paid the money, she might not be able to save her life if she faced this group of desperate criminals alone.
Chen Ji understood what his mother was saying, and he felt a wave of fear as he held her hand.
When Gu Yunting approached him yesterday, he initially wanted to refuse, but considering he had the day off, he agreed to come along.
Unexpectedly, this simple agreement saved his mother's life.
If Gu Yunting and his wife hadn't come with him, he didn't even dare to imagine what kind of treatment his mother would have received.
Turning to look at Gu Yunting, who was holding Zheng Jiayu's hand, Chen Ji felt a wave of fear: "Luckily, I listened to Captain Gu and agreed to come together today, otherwise it would have been troublesome."
"Captain Gu, thank you so much this time," Chen Ji said with gratitude in his eyes.
"We're all on the same team, it's nothing, it's good that Auntie is alright." Gu Yunting glanced at the people on the ground.
He walked over and kicked one of them, saying, "Tell me, who sent you to cause trouble for us?"
The person who was kicked turned away from Gu Yunting, the meaning of which was already very clear, but he wouldn't say it out loud.
However, someone nearby quickly spoke up: "We're just here to make money; nobody told us to come."
Seeking wealth?
Only they themselves would believe these words.
"Looks like we won't get any information out of them. Let's just hand them over to the police." Chen Ji frowned as he looked at these people who were as stubborn as mules.
Gu Yunting nodded in agreement.
As Zheng Jiayu looked at these people, she felt for some reason that they looked somewhat familiar.
"Jiayu, what are you looking at?"
Zheng Jiayu shook her head and stood next to Gu Yunting: "How do we take these people away?"
If we leave them here, they'll probably just run away anyway.
But it seems they can't take it away, which is troublesome.
"Just drag them away." The person is already tied up; dragging them over to the police will only take a little time, but there won't be any other problems.
Seeing that Gu Yunting and Chen Ji had both agreed to take it away, Zheng Jiayu said no more.
I rode my bicycle with Chen's mother and accompanied the two of them for an extra half hour before finally taking the group of people to the police station.
When the police learned that these people were trying to rob ordinary people of their money, they began a serious investigation to find out who was behind it all.
Unfortunately, these people were too stubborn and couldn't find any opportunity.
"Comrade, we need some more time to investigate this matter. We will notify you immediately as soon as we have any news," the police officer assured him.
“We’re not in a hurry, but you can check if they have any other cases on their record. After all, their methods are very sophisticated, and they might be repeat offenders,” Zheng Jiayu said gently to the police officer.
Upon hearing this, the police realized that Zheng Jiayu was right.
What Zheng Jiayu said is not impossible.
If that's the case, then that's a real problem.
"We will continue to investigate this matter and will not let any clue go unnoticed."
Zheng Jiayu glanced at the arrested thugs and silently said, "You're finished."
Even though the thugs understood what Zheng Jiayu was saying, they didn't say anything.
This made Zheng Jiayu even more curious about who was behind these people, that they could be so devoted to them.
"Comrade, we'll be going now." Gu Yunting left a phone number and then left with Zheng Jiayu and the others.
After leaving the police station, Gu Yunting said seriously to Chen Ji beside him, "It seems we can't find any clues. We need to be more careful from now on."
Chen Ji's expression also turned somewhat unpleasant. He snorted coldly and said, "Dare to lay a hand on my mother? Even if the police can't find out the truth, I will investigate everything thoroughly and make the people behind this pay the price."
"This matter is difficult to investigate; be prepared." If these people don't speak up, they probably won't be able to continue the investigation.
Chen Ji didn't speak, he just stared ahead, seemingly lost in thought.
After a while, Chen Ji finally spoke, his voice trembling slightly: "Do you think it's possible that Chen Jia did it?"
Zheng Jiayu looked at Chen Ji in astonishment: "Why do you think Chen Jia did it?"
Chen Ji rubbed his temples: "Chen Jia was just beaten by my mother, and she almost got into trouble. Don't you think these two things are too much of a coincidence?"
Gu Yunting and Zheng Jiayu exchanged a glance, as if what Chen Ji had said was true.
It's quite a coincidence.
Not long after Chen Jia was beaten and kicked out, her mother was targeted. Who would believe there was nothing wrong with that?
Chen's mother also heard her son's words. Her hands trembled slightly, and she said in a hoarse voice, "Could it really be her?"
"I don't know, this is just my guess, and I don't want it to be Chen Jia either."
He was just questioning based on his own assumptions.
Because his mother treated him better than Chen Jia, Chen Jia never understood his mother and even felt that his mother was too sexist.
Therefore, I have always harbored resentment towards my mother.
Especially recently, Chen Jia has been arguing with her mother because of Shen Xizhen. This time, she even tried to kill Zheng Jiayu for Shen Xizhen, and was eventually beaten by her mother.
Given Chen Jia's personality, she will definitely resent her mother for this.
If she truly resents her mother and wants to teach her a lesson, perhaps it's really possible...
Chen Ji dared not think any further.
If it really is Chen Jia, how should he handle this matter?
Seeing Chen Ji's distressed appearance, Chen's mother took his hand and said with a wry smile, "Alright, don't think so much. If it really was Chen Jia who did it, then I'll pretend I don't have this daughter. When you go back, investigate as you see fit."
Judging from Chen's mother's words, she was truly disappointed in Chen Jia, otherwise she wouldn't have let Chen Ji handle the matter on his own.
Chen Ji looked at his mother with concern: "Mom, did I really go and investigate?"
