Chapter 7 Cooking for the First Time

After happily finishing his meal alone, Shen Xiaobei immediately started to cook sweet potato porridge.

There was already a small pile of sweet potatoes on the kitchen floor.

There was a little rice in the rice jar, but the amount was not enough for the six of them to have a full meal.

So every time they cooked porridge, they only dared to put a symbolic amount of rice, and the porridge turned out to be very watery.

I didn’t dare to store too many sweet potatoes, for fear that there would be no staple food left to eat before the end of the month.

There were not many staple foods left, so Shen Xiaobei simply used the sweet potatoes and rice in the space to cook porridge.

Cook a pot of thicker porridge.

However, in order to prevent them from noticing anything unusual while eating, she also mixed a sweet potato from the kitchen and a handful of rice from the rice jar into the porridge.

When a fire was lit in a stove and the porridge was being boiled over high heat, Kong Wanwan came back carrying a basket of vegetables.

During this period, Deng Yuliang and Du Wenli each carried back a load of water and poured it into the water tank in the kitchen.

In the first year that this group of educated youth went to the countryside, the authorities gave each of them about 10 kilograms of grain per month. This amount was enough to keep them from starving to death, but it was not enough to keep them full either.

Especially the two male educated youth, they could not even get enough to eat.

It was only in the second year, which is this year, that we started to eat the grain distributed by the production team, but this had to wait until after the autumn harvest.

The vegetable garden was a piece of land they opened up on the slope behind the house with the team's approval. At the beginning, they didn't know how to grow vegetables, so they didn't grow well.

This year, we have accumulated some experience and planted more varieties.

There are sweet potatoes, carrots, eggplants, cucumbers, tomatoes, cowpeas, green vegetables, onions and many more.

However, after all, there are six mouths to feed, and the amount of vegetables that can be picked every day is still not enough for them to eat their fill every day.

The vegetable basket that Kong Wanwan brought back only contained two eggplants, a cucumber, two cabbages, two carrots, a handful of cowpeas and a handful of green onions.

These vegetables are all very delicate in size, as if they have just reached adulthood or are still minors.

Shen Xiaobei casually picked at it and took a look, and felt that he could only mix them together and barely stir-fry three dishes that could be served on the table.

This is the amount of food for six people for three meals a day, which is definitely not enough.

Nutrition is also insufficient.

Thinking about how many vegetables I have stored in my space, and then looking at how few vegetables are in this vegetable basket.

She felt itchy inside.

Today's breakfast was her first meal since she came to this world, and it was also her first time cooking by herself in this world.

She didn't want to be sloppy.

This was not her style of self-admiration.

Therefore, only if Kong Wanwan doesn't stay in the kitchen can she perform better.

Thinking of this, she said expressionlessly, "Go away! From now on, it'll be my turn to cook with you. I can do it alone. I don't need you. Do whatever you want!"

Kong Wanwan was stunned when she heard her say this.

Then he asked angrily, "What did you say? You dare to order me out?"

Normally, if someone offered to let her do nothing, she would definitely be happy to do it and feel that she was getting a good deal.

But now it was Shen Xiaobei, who had been crushed by her before, who said this to her, and Kong Wanwan only felt angry.

Why does this woman give her orders?

Why should she listen to her?

"Why, you don't want to go out and you like to stay in the kitchen and work so much? Fine, then you do it alone and I'll go to my room to take a nap. When you're done, I can just get up and eat it."

"Shen Xiaobei, I think you haven't woken up yet, you are just dreaming!"

"I'm cooking by myself, and you go to sleep. Do you think I'm stupid? Fine, since you like cooking by yourself so much, then I'll be kind enough to let you do it all by yourself! I still don't believe you can actually make a flower out of cooking by yourself! Humph!"

The method of provoking someone really works!

After listening to Shen Xiaobei’s words, Kong Wanwan sarcastically threw down some words and left the kitchen with her neck held high.

After watching her leave and walk into the main room, Shen Xiaobei immediately started washing vegetables.

While washing the vegetables, she quietly took out two cucumbers and two carrots from the space, mixed them with the vegetables picked by Kong Wanwan, and washed them all.

After washing, he skillfully picked up the knife and started cutting vegetables and cooking.

Shen Xiaobei knew how to cook when she was nine years old. Her grandmother taught her.

Before going to college, she had lost count of the number of times she cooked with her grandmother or cooked alone.

Although I don’t cook very often after I started working, I still occasionally make a sumptuous holiday meal for myself.

It is a piece of cake for her to cook a few delicious dishes.

However, she had never used a firewood stove in the countryside herself, but when she visited relatives in the countryside or suburbs during the Spring Festival, she had seen them use firewood stoves to cook.

She watched from the side and thought it was quite simple.

It's just that there is no range hood or exhaust fan, so the smoke smell is a bit strong.

She was mentally prepared for this when she first stepped into the kitchen of this educated youth center.

It's not a problem.

After washing a total of three cucumbers, she peeled them slightly, then skillfully smashed the cucumbers with the back of a knife, and then cut them into even small pieces.

Then put the cucumber pieces into a large bowl, sprinkle some salt on them and marinate for a few minutes to allow the cucumbers to release water.

After pouring out the water, sprinkle with chopped green onions, and symbolically drizzle with a little rapeseed oil that has just been heated in the pot, as well as the vinegar and soy sauce already in the kitchen.

Then, add a layer of sesame oil, vinegar and light soy sauce produced in the 21st century to make the flavor stored in the space more mellow.
