Chapter 139 Zhou Xiye's Initiative
Jiang Zhizhi looked a little confused: "Nothing, I was fine today. I didn't run into anyone at noon, except when I came back to cook and met my sister-in-law."
She certainly couldn't mention that she met Sun Xiaoyue and beat her up again.
Zhou Xiye stared into her eyes, his dark, clear features suggesting he wasn't lying. He released her hand: "Are you really alright?"
He was always too embarrassed to say, "You used to bother me all the time, why are you being so well-behaved today?"
Jiang Zhizhi's eyes widened, full of innocence: "No, really nothing's wrong."
Zhou Xiye pursed his lips and stopped talking. He watched as Jiang Zhizhi happily wiped him down and then went to the outer room to take a bath herself.
When she came back, she was wearing cool pajamas she had made herself. She climbed onto the bed, stepped over him, and hissed as she burrowed under the covers, muttering, "It's so cold at night, I'm freezing to death."
Zhou Xiye leaned against the headboard, turned his head to look at Jiang Zhizhi, who was wrapped up like a long rice dumpling, and suddenly reached out his hand to her.
Jiang Zhizhi was taken aback: "What?"
Zhou Xiye said softly, "It's not that you're cold, I'm just warming your hands."
Jiang Zhizhi giggled, reached out and pulled his hand to rub against her cheek: "Thank you."
She really wasn't in the mood to tease Zhou Xiye today; she was torn between two little voices in her heart.
One person said that Zhou Xiye and Sun Xiaoyue were husband and wife in their past life and did many intimate things. This time, if Sun Xiaoyue hadn't been unwilling, he would have become husband and wife with her again. So, for him, who his wife is doesn't seem to matter that much.
Another little voice said: That's all from the previous life. You might have married someone else back then. Now that you're with Zhou Xiye, you should cherish the present.
The two little figures were locked in a tug-of-war, neither gaining the upper hand, which made Jiang Zhizhi quite melancholy.
So he forgot to tease Zhou Xiye, and didn't notice the change in Zhou Xiye's mood.
Zhou Xiye lay down but couldn't fall asleep for a long time. Jiang Zhizhi, on the other hand, was full of energy during the day but fell asleep instantly at night. She turned over a few times and then fell into a deep sleep.
Hearing her deep, even breathing, he couldn't help but reach out and touch Jiang Zhizhi's cheek.
...
Jiang Zhizhi really wanted to go back to Qingquan Village to say goodbye to Yang Fengmei, but time was too tight and it was inconvenient to go. She planned to wait until she got to Beijing and see if she could send Yang Fengmei any local specialties.
There's a slight regret, though, that I probably won't be able to attend Liang Dazhuang's banquet.
They set off in the middle of the night. The division headquarters' vehicle first took them to the provincial capital, and then they flew back to Beijing.
Bian Yucheng is still searching for clues about the family that adopted Sun Xiaoyue, wanting to know if Jiang Zhizhi is their biological daughter.
After investigating, it was discovered that the couple were indeed dead, and there was no one around who knew anything about it. When they returned to the city, they found that Zhou Xiye and Jiang Zhizhi had already returned to Beijing.
Without even saying goodbye to Bian Xiaoxiao, he quickly bought a train ticket back to Beijing.
……
Jiang Zhizhi and Zhou Xiye got off the plane at Nanyuan Airport, and Zhou Chengzhi had already arranged for a car to pick them up and take them home.
Zhou Chengzhi watched as Jiang Zhizhi pushed Zhou Xiye out of the airport, quite satisfied. He walked over with a cold face and glared at Zhou Xiye: "What happened? How did you manage to get yourself injured?"
Zhou Xiye remained silent, and Zhou Chengzhi added, "Sometimes, don't be too much of a personal hero."
Jiang Zhizhi had just thought Zhou Xiye was a decent father, just a bit authoritative, but this sentence sounded so oppressive.
Unable to hold back, she still spoke up to refute: "He was injured while on a mission, perhaps he was doing his best to protect his comrades. How is that individual heroism?"
Zhou Chengzhi glanced at Jiang Zhizhi, not expecting her to plead for Zhou Xiye. He frowned and said, "Let's go home first. Your mother has already prepared the meal."
Xiangshan Courtyard is located at the foot of Xiangshan Mountain, not far from Xiangshan Park. It is built against the mountain and backed by mountains covered with red leaves.
The Zhou family's house was located in the innermost corner of the compound, in a small building with a small courtyard.
Upon hearing the car, Zhou Xiaochuan and Fang Hua quickly came out of the house.
Zhou Xiaochuan rushed over and pushed Jiang Zhizhi aside, eagerly pushing Zhou Xiye's wheelchair: "Brother, brother, I heard you were injured, and I wanted to go see you."
Jiang Zhizhi was too lazy to argue with him. She stood aside and looked at Zhou Xiaochuan, comparing him to Shang Xingzhou in her mind. Shang Xingzhou was much more obedient and sensible.
When Fang Hua saw Jiang Zhizhi, he simply greeted her with a curt, "You're back?"
Then they surrounded Zhou Xiye, asking him how badly he was injured.
He then called out to Zhou Xiaochuan, "What are you standing there for? Hurry up and push your brother into the house!"
Zhou Xiaochuan responded and pushed the wheelchair into the yard. He had only pushed it one step when the wheelchair stopped moving no matter how hard he tried.
Zhou Xiaochuan was puzzled. He looked down and saw that Zhou Xiye was holding the wheelchair's wheels. No wonder he couldn't push it. He couldn't understand: "Brother, why are you holding the wheels?"
Zhou Xiye turned to look at Zhou Xiaochuan, his tone icy: "Who is she?"
As she spoke, she looked at Jiang Zhizhi, who had been pushed aside.
Zhou Xiaochuan's lips moved slightly, but he didn't say anything. He still didn't want to call Jiang Zhizhi "sister-in-law".
In his heart, Jiang Zhizhi was not good enough for his brother.
Zhou Xiye's tone turned even colder: "What, don't you recognize me, or do you have absolutely no manners?"
Zhou Chengzhi was also furious: "You brat, can't you greet your sister-in-law? Have you forgotten all your manners?"
Fang Hua knew that her husband was ruthless when he started scolding people, so she quickly grabbed Zhou Xiaochuan's arm and said, "Quickly greet your sister-in-law!"
However, she felt a little unhappy. What should have been a happy reunion had been ruined because of Jiang Zhizhi.
Zhou Xiaochuan was afraid of his older brother and his father, so he reluctantly called out, "Sister-in-law."
Jiang Zhizhi grinned, giving a forced, insincere smile.
Zhou Xiye was not satisfied. He was worried that it would be inappropriate for passersby to see him at the front door, so he frowned and asked Zhou Xiaochuan to push him inside.
There is no nanny in the family, and Fang Hua does most of the housework.
Zhou Chengzhi felt there was no need to hire a nanny, and that hiring a nanny was something only landlords did in the past.
After entering the house, Fang Hua asked Jiang Zhizhi to push Zhou Xiye to the first-floor bathroom to wash his hands and prepare for dinner.
Then she called Zhou Xiaochuan to the kitchen to bring out the dishes, and whispered to her youngest son in the kitchen: "Even if you don't like Jiang Zhizhi, don't show it. Just ignore her in the future, but you still have to be polite on the surface. Don't make your dad and your brother angry."
Zhou Xiaochuan was very indignant: "Anyone can be my sister-in-law, except Jiang Zhizhi. How many boyfriends has she dated in the compound? And she used to follow Li Simin around every day. People said she was Li Simin's little wife. She even bullied me with Li Yuanchao."
Fang Hua glared at him: "Don't talk nonsense. Just shut up. If you make your dad angry, I won't take care of you."
After giving Zhou Xiaochuan a good scolding, she turned around with the dishes in her hand and saw that Jiang Zhizhi had somehow pushed Zhou Xiye to stand at the door...
