Chapter 17 Zhou Xiye has taken a liking to her

Zhou Xiye drove back. Zhang Zhao and Wang Changkun leaned on the windowsill and watched their boss get out of the car with an expressionless face. Then he went to the office and squatted down quietly.

Zhang Zhao looked at Wang Changkun with a gossipy look on his face. "It's just a matter of sending something. Just let the driver go. The boss has to go there in person."

Wang Changkun was still a bit naive: "Maybe they're just worried, since the demolition is scheduled for in a couple of days."

Zhang Zhao gave him a disdainful look: "The boss even had the cooks buy him a chicken; he paid for the meat ration coupons himself."

Wang Changkun thought it was normal: "You guys ate at the Party Secretary's house that day, so it's normal to give him a chicken. Our boss never takes advantage of anyone."

Zhang Zhao slapped Wang Changkun on the head: "You're such a blockhead. Think about who was at the village secretary's house? That very capable woman on the train."

Wang Changkun finally realized what was happening and slapped his head. "Oh my god, no way, the boss has fallen for her? But the boss has a wife, so that would be a mistake."

Zhang Zhao stroked his chin, also feeling that this matter was quite difficult to handle, but he didn't dare to ask the captain directly.

...

Jiang Zhizhi originally planned to make braised chicken pieces, but then she remembered that Yang Fengmei always boiled the chicken first, and then added a little oil after it was taken out of the pot, or she would wipe the bottom of the pot with a little lard before putting the vegetables in to stir-fry.

If she were to make braised chicken, she would need to use oil and a lot of soy sauce, which would be too much trouble for others.

So I simply chopped the chicken into several large pieces and stewed it in water.

I didn't dare to add any seasonings, afraid of wasting Yang Fengmei's time, so I just added some salt, and when it was almost cooked, I chopped a few potatoes in.

As soon as Liang Dazhuang entered the courtyard, he wrinkled his nose and exclaimed, "My goodness, what smells so good? Is it meat?"

As he spoke, his eyes lit up as he went to the stove and eagerly lifted the pot lid.

Seeing the chicken soup bubbling with butter in the pot, along with a pot of chicken and potatoes: "My God, it's chicken! Oh my god, where did this chicken come from?"

Old Man Liang and Yang Fengmei also hurried over. Looking at the meat stewed in the pot, which was better than what they had eaten during the Chinese New Year, their faces became solemn.

Jiang Zhizhi quickly explained, "This was sent by Captain Zhou. He said he wanted me to stew it so we could eat it together."

Upon hearing that it was Zhou Xiye who delivered it, both Old Man Liang and Yang Fengmei breathed a sigh of relief.

Old Liang squatted by the pot, puffing on his pipe, and called to Yang Fengmei, "Go and pick two scallions, add some when it's done cooking, it'll be delicious. If you pair it with some fried dough sticks, it'll be incredibly fragrant."

Yang Fengmei said with a sullen face, "You still want to eat fried bread? That uses too much oil and flour. Xiao Jiang, you're such a fool! You stewed a whole chicken. It should be enough for several meals."

They slaughter a chicken during the Chinese New Year and can eat it until the fifteenth day of the first lunar month.

Jiang Zhizhi was stunned for a moment: "Huh? It's so hot, I thought I couldn't keep it, so I stewed it all."

Liang Dazhuang was swallowing his saliva: "Mom, stop nagging, just eat it when it's ready, I'm already greedy."

Yang Fengmei couldn't help but grumble, "You don't know how to live like this at all. You can't eat good things like this..."

As they talked, they went inside, and Old Man Liang followed them in.

Old Man Liang looked at Yang Fengmei, whose face was dark, and scolded her, "Captain Zhou sent that chicken. Just eat it. Why are you talking so much nonsense?"

Yang Fengmei retorted, "Such a big chicken, it's a waste to eat it in one meal. You really don't know the value of firewood and rice when you're not in charge of the household."

Old Man Liang snorted coldly: "You know nothing. Do you think Captain Zhou gave us the chicken? It was given to Comrade Xiao Jiang. We are just taking advantage of it."

Yang Fengmei exclaimed, "You mean that Captain Zhou has taken a liking to Xiao Jiang? Not you?"

Old Liang raised his pipe to hit Yang Fengmei, but she dodged in fear. Enraged, he cursed, "You're a pig-eyed, pig-brained idiot! What disgusting things are you thinking? Does having a mouth mean you can just spout nonsense?"

Yang Fengmei suddenly felt relieved. After all, those female educated youths would do anything to return to the city, and Old Man Liang was no good either. He had an ambiguous relationship with the female educated youths before, so how could she not worry when she saw him bring back such a beautiful one?

Old Liang glared at Yang Fengmei: "Alright, hurry up and go out to eat. If you keep talking nonsense, I'll skin you alive."

Yang Fengmei felt relieved and found Jiang Zhizhi much more agreeable when she went out to look at her: "Alright, since we've already done it, let's eat."

Liang Dazhuang happily went to pull up some scallions, then went to get a large bowl, urging Yang Fengmei to quickly serve the rice.

Jiang Zhizhi stood aside, just wondering what Old Man Liang said to Yang Fengmei when he returned home, and why did his attitude change so much when he came out of the house?

Yang Fengmei gave both chicken legs to Jiang Zhizhi, and the chicken wings and necks to Liang Dazhuang. She also gave Liang the old man a large piece of chicken breast, while she herself took a small piece of meat and a large bowl of potatoes.

Jiang Zhizhi was a little embarrassed, but seeing that the Liang family father and son were eating happily, which was obviously normal, she put a chicken leg on Yang Fengmei's plate and said, "Auntie, you can have this chicken leg, I can't finish it."

Yang Fengmei was flattered, after all, the best food in the house was always for the men and sons, and even when her daughters were at home, they never got a chance to eat.

"No, no, I'll just eat a little. You have an injured arm, so eat more."

Liang Dazhuang nodded as he ate some chicken: "Yes, yes, Comrade Xiao Jiang, you should eat more so your arm can heal faster. Mom, this chicken smells so good, and the chicken soup is delicious too. Can we put some noodles in it tonight? It would be so fragrant!"

Yang Fengmei said sternly, "Alright, you're eating better than the landlords, what else do you want?"

As he spoke, he picked up a chicken leg from his bowl and gave it to Old Man Liang, then soaked a dry, hard sorghum bun in it for himself.

Seeing that Old Man Liang was eating with great relish without any politeness, and looking at Yang Fengmei's willing sacrifice, Jiang Zhizhi realized that she was just asking for trouble, and no one else could interfere.

After the meal, Yang Fengmei's attitude towards Jiang Zhizhi improved considerably. After Old Man Liang and Liang Dazhuang finished eating and went back to their room for a nap, Yang Fengmei cleaned up the dishes while saying to Jiang Zhizhi, "Do you have any dirty clothes? I'll go to the river to wash them later and wash yours too."

Jiang Zhizhi shook her head: "No need, I can wash myself."

Yang Fengmei smiled and said, "Please don't be so polite with me, your hand is not in a convenient position."

This time, Jiang Zhizhi was flattered: "No need, no need, Auntie, I can manage with one hand."

Yang Fengmei didn't insist: "Okay, if you need my help, just tell me. By the way, you should avoid interacting with those people at the educated youth center."

Jiang Zhizhi was surprised: "Why?"

Yang Fengmei snorted coldly, "Those people are all cunning and scheme against us every day. You look so naive and gullible, don't let them fool you!"
