Chapter 254 The Importance of a Wife
Zhou Chengzhi initially found it disgusting, but upon hearing that it was Jiang Zhizhi's study notes, he became anxious.
He had noticed Jiang Zhizhi's recent progress and her diligent work ethic. If he ruined her study notes, not only would Jiang Zhizhi be angry, but Fang Hua would be furious when he got back.
While groaning, he went to find some toilet paper to wipe himself.
Zhou Xiye watched coldly from the side: "Do you think that wiping it clean will stop Zhizhi from feeling disgusted?"
Zhou Chengzhi waved his hands anxiously: "Shut up! I'll think of something right away. Okay, I'll go to the study and copy it again."
Li Hualin was a little taken aback: "Brother Zhou, is this paper very important?"
Zhou Chengzhi's expression was serious: "These are my daughter-in-law's study notes, which she needs for the exam. If they're ruined, how will she pass the exam?"
Li Hualin was taken aback: "Xiye's wife? Why is she still in school? What's the point of a young girl studying so much?"
Zhou Chengzhi didn't like hearing this: "Although she is a girl, it's a good thing that she wants to study, and she's going to be a doctor. How many people can she treat in the future?"
Seeing Zhou Xiye standing to the side with a dark face, and then seeing Zhou Chengzhi's anxious look, Li Hualin muttered under his breath, "A daughter-in-law, look how scared you are. Is this like letting a woman ride on your neck and shit?"
Zhou Chengzhi felt a little disgusted at first, because he was a rough and uncultured man, so he especially respected people who liked to learn.
He can tolerate many things, but he cannot tolerate people who do not respect reading.
Zhou Chengzhi said with a stern face, "Brother Hua, please sit down first. I'll go copy the notes."
Before she could finish speaking, the two youngest children suddenly started crying, one on each side grabbing Zhu Xifeng's legs and crying that they were hungry and wanted to eat.
Zhou Chengzhi was already annoyed, and this crying made his temples ache. He looked at his watch and said, "I'm really sorry, I forgot to cook. Xiye, go and cook something for your aunt and uncle."
Zhou Xiye didn't move: "I'm going to pick Zhizhi up from school. We're going to see my mom tonight, so we won't be coming back."
Zhou Chengzhi was taken aback: "What do you mean? You and Zhizhi aren't coming back tonight? Where are you staying?"
Zhou Xiye said seriously, "I'm staying at my uncle's house. I've already packed everything up inside. You're not allowed to go in again."
After saying that, he didn't look at the others and went straight out the door.
Zhou Chengzhi sighed a few times, but seeing that his son didn't turn around, and looking at the people in the room, he felt a bit overwhelmed: "Well, I'll make a call and have the guards bring some food over. Don't be shy, eat first, I'll go and confiscate the stuff."
Li Hualin hesitated for a moment: "Brother Zhou, it seems like Xiye doesn't welcome us? Aren't we coming back tonight? By the way, why isn't your wife home this time?"
Zhou Chengzhi was a little annoyed. In the past, when the whole family came, Fang Hua would prepare delicious food and drinks, and they would eat and chat without any problems.
“Your sister-in-law went back to her parents’ home for some business. Xiye and his wife will be staying there, which will be more convenient for them to go to school tomorrow. Don’t worry about it, just settle in.”
As Zhou Chengzhi spoke, he called the guard and asked him to go to the canteen and get ten servings of food.
While waiting for the guards to bring the food, Zhou Chengzhi arranged for them to eat in the dining hall. He then hurried back to his study and copied down the notes from the scrap paper.
After Zhou Chengzhi entered the study, the Li family hesitated for a moment before starting to eat.
There were also steamed buns, a pot of pork and cabbage stew with vermicelli, and a pot of porridge.
The group almost devoured the food, leaving soup everywhere. The three children also scrambled to eat, making a mess of the table.
After Liu Yu'e finished eating, she burped and asked her husband Li Hualin in a low voice, "Dad, I feel like Brother Zhou and the others don't really welcome us this time. Should we stay here?"
Li Hualin took out his pipe, lit it, and took a few puffs. He squinted and calculated, "Of course we have to stay. If we go back, how much food will this family eat? Besides, if we stay, it will be close to the New Year when we leave. They will definitely feel bad letting us go back empty-handed."
"Even if we just scrape together a little bit, it'll be enough for our whole family to have a good New Year."
"It's time for the second and third sons in the family to get married. These are big expenses, so we need to get them to figure out a way to do it."
Liu Yu'e hesitated for a moment: "I noticed their attitude wasn't good this time. Look at how Brother Zhou's face changed just now. What if they abandon us?"
Li Hualin wasn't sure either, and took a few more puffs of his cigarette: "That won't do. If Zhou Chengzhi doesn't care about us, we'll sue him and say he's ungrateful. If it weren't for my mother back then, would he be where he is today?"
After thinking for a moment, Liu Yu'e immediately nodded: "Yes, we'll stay here and not leave. If no one cooks, we'll cook for ourselves."
When Zhou Chengzhi came out of the study, the living room was filled with smoky, choking smoke.
He suppressed his cough and went over, only to find the dining table in a mess, with soup spilled all over it and noodles scattered on the floor.
This is something Fang Hua would never allow to happen.
To his surprise, they didn't leave him a single bite of food!
...
Jiang Zhizhi was surprised to see Zhou Xiye waiting for her at the school gate. She exclaimed "Huh?" and ran over happily, "Why are you here?"
Zhou Xiye took the bicycle and then helped her straighten her scarf: "Let's go to my uncle's house for dinner tonight and visit Mom while we're at it."
Jiang Zhizhi was a little surprised, as Zhou Xiye hadn't mentioned this at noon.
The quick-witted girl sat in the car for a while and guessed, "Could it be the family that saved Dad's life?"
Zhou Xiye nodded and said, "Yes, we arrived at noon."
Jiang Zhizhi leaned against his back and guessed, "Did they come into our room and mess with our things?"
Zhou Xiye was somewhat surprised: "You're not angry?"
Jiang Zhizhi laughed: "Since you're already angry, I don't need to be angry anymore. Although I don't know how badly I've moved around, if I can make you so angry that you don't want to go home, then it must be very serious."
"If I had seen it then, I would definitely have been furious."
He patted him on the back again and said, "It's okay, it's okay, just don't touch my notes and books."
Zhou Xiye opened his mouth, but then decided against it, lest Jiang Zhizhi get so angry that she would run back to confront them right now: "On the way to my uncle's house later, I'll buy a roast chicken, but I don't know if they still have any at this time."
When the two arrived, the limited supply of roast chicken had already sold out, so they had to go to Zhou Xiye's uncle's house empty-handed.
Fang Hua's eldest uncle's family lived in a small courtyard house in the north of the city, where Fang Hua's three brothers all lived together.
When Zhou Xiye and Jiang Zhizhi entered the courtyard, Fang Hua was watching his uncle's two grandsons rolling iron hoops.
Upon seeing the young couple enter, Fang Hua's first thought was, "Those people are here?"
Zhou Xiye nodded: "Yes, I'm here."
Fang Hua squinted, looked at his son with a sullen face, then at Jiang Zhizhi who was smiling, and suddenly took off the sleeve on his arm: "Did I bully you? Come on, I'm going back to settle accounts with that old man!"
