Chapter 3 This man didn't even recognize her
Song Wanying was angered by Jiang Zhizhi's indifferent attitude, but even more heartbroken. The daughter she had raised for nineteen years turned out to be an ingrate.
He stormed to the study, grabbed the letter of introduction, and handed it to Jiang Zhizhi: "Go now. Live a good life with Xiye from now on, and don't embarrass us."
Jiang Zhizhi took the envelope and waved it casually: "Well... I'll be going now."
Sun Xiaoyue stared in disbelief, even forgetting to pretend to be delicate, and crawled to her feet. She never expected that Jiang Zhizhi would leave so easily and gracefully.
Is it because she's going to marry Zhou Xiye that she's so impatient?
Suddenly, she felt a pang of regret. Jiang Zhizhi was so beautiful; what if Zhou Xiye took a liking to her?
They should make such a scene that she can neither go to the countryside nor marry Zhou Xiye!
Her eyes darted around, and suddenly an idea came to her. She turned to Zhou Xiaochuan with a frown and said, "Brother Xiaochuan, I don't know what Zhizhi is angry about. She has always liked Brother Zhou. Now that I've given Brother Zhou to her, why is she still angry?"
With a sob in her voice, she said, "Could you go out and check on her? It's so late, I'm worried about her safety alone. After all, she and Brother Zhou are getting married soon, and she'll be your sister-in-law soon."
Mentioning this, Zhou Xiaochuan got even angrier: "I will never admit to letting her be my sister-in-law. I'm going back to my parents right now and sending a telegram to my older brother!"
Sun Xiaoyue's smug smile was almost unbearable, but she still frowned and said with concern, "Isn't it inappropriate for you to say that? Uncle Zhou and the others have already written to Brother Zhou, and I heard that their marriage application has been approved."
Zhou Xiaochuan snorted coldly: "I don't care, I'm going back to tell my parents right now."
...
Relying on the original owner's memories, Jiang Zhizhi walked out of the compound and onto the street. Her heart sank when she saw that the street was deserted and there was not a single person. The streetlights were dim, and the trees and houses on the side were shadowy and indistinct, as if countless giant monsters were crouching behind them.
The streets of Beijing in the 1970s were surprisingly deserted!
She breathed a sigh of relief and walked towards the train station with her bag. She remembered that the train station was not far away.
They hadn't gone far when Jiang Zhenhua caught up, panting, "Zhizhi, wait a minute."
Jiang Zhizhi was puzzled. She stopped and turned around, watching Jiang Zhenhua catch up with her, his head covered in sweat and his breath slightly out of his mouth: "Zhizhi, where are you going alone so late?"
Jiang Zhizhi bit her lower lip: "To the train station."
Jiang Zhenhua pushed up his glasses and sighed, "Alright, be careful on the road. The situation at home is complicated right now. It's good that you go find Xiye as soon as possible."
He then pulled a brown paper envelope from his pocket and stuffed it into Jiang Zhizhi's handbag: "Here's some money, national grain coupons, meat coupons, and an industrial coupon. Remember, keep this industrial coupon safe; you can exchange it for some money when times get tough."
Jiang Zhizhi thought Jiang Zhenhua had come to persuade her to go back, but unexpectedly he gave her money and food coupons. She opened her mouth, but couldn't express herself.
Jiang Zhenhua patted Jiang Zhizhi on the shoulder: "I know you're a good kid. Go on, and when you see Xiye, remember to write me a letter. Just send it to the compound, and someone will forward it to me."
Without waiting for Jiang Zhizhi's response, he turned and left.
Looking at Jiang Zhenhua's slightly hunched back and somewhat unsteady figure, Jiang Zhizhi felt a slight touch in her heart. This was the first person who had been kind to her since she came into this world.
Only after Jiang Zhenhua disappeared into the night did Jiang Zhizhi turn around with her bag and continue walking towards the train station.
I encountered several patrols along the way, but because I had a letter of introduction, I was able to pass through smoothly.
Jiang Zhizhi's right hand was not convenient, and her left hand, which had been carrying a handbag, felt a bit stiff. She found a roadside to stand down, put down the handbag, and shook her sore arm. She also felt a bit hungry, as the atmosphere at home was not good that evening and she hadn't eaten enough.
I rubbed my stomach and looked around, but there were no open canteens. I thought to myself, private businesses aren't allowed to operate yet, and state-run canteens close on time, so there's definitely nowhere to eat right now.
Jiang Zhizhi planned to rest for a while before going to the train station. There must be a state-run canteen near the train station. She would wait until tomorrow morning and then buy a steamed bun to eat.
As she bent down to pick it up, someone suddenly rushed out of the alley behind her and ran towards her.
Jiang Zhizhi became wary. Why was someone rushing around in such a hurry in the middle of the night? Could they be after her bag?
Thinking it over, she moved her body faster, spinning and raising her leg. Before the man could get close, she kicked him in the shoulder blade.
Before the man could regain his footing after taking a few steps back, Jiang Zhizhi kicked him again, this time right in the chest.
The man groaned in pain and fell heavily to the ground.
Jiang Zhizhi was quite happy; she hadn't lost any of her power while using this body!
When Zhou Xiye and his men caught up, they saw a beautiful girl with two dark braids hanging down her chest. She was wearing a loose white floral short-sleeved shirt and black trousers, which still made her look slender. She seemed frail, but her speed and explosiveness were so fierce!
Then I heard the girl's clear voice mutter, "Are you blind? You dare to try and steal my handbag!"
Zhou Xiye walked towards Jiang Zhizhi with admiration in his eyes: "Comrade, thank you."
Jiang Zhizhi also spotted Zhou Xiye, but since he was in military uniform and had a straight posture, she didn't pay much attention to him. Instead, she felt much more at ease, because soldiers always give people a sense of security, no matter what era they live in.
But when the person got closer, and Jiang Zhizhi saw the face clearly under the streetlight, she almost cried out in shock. It was Zhou Xiye from the original owner's memories!
The person from her memories was right in front of her, how could Jiang Zhizhi not be surprised? He looked just like the original owner in her memories, with deep-set eyes, a straight nose, and thin lips that made him look even more indifferent and aloof.
Looking at Zhou Xiye, who had already walked up to her, she didn't seem surprised at all. It seemed that he didn't recognize the original owner of this body.
Seeing that Jiang Zhizhi was staring at him with a tense expression and not saying anything, Zhou Xiye turned around and instructed the two people who were with him to tie up the man lying on the ground and send him to the police station.
He turned back to look at Jiang Zhizhi and said, "Comrade, thank you. Which unit do you belong to? You're quite skilled."
Jiang Zhizhi didn't intend to introduce herself to Zhou Xiye: "I'm not from the military, I'm just an ordinary citizen passing by."
Zhou Xiye was still slightly surprised. Jiang Zhizhi's skills were better than those of his soldiers, especially her two consecutive kicks. Without rich combat experience, it would be impossible to do them so smoothly and fiercely.
Furthermore, her posture, as upright as a pine tree, suggests she has received professional training.
"With such good qualities, why didn't you join the army?"
Jiang Zhizhi: "..."
She barely showed off her skills, yet Zhou Xiye discovered it. How could she possibly take the train to northern Gansu to marry him now?
With a blank expression, he replied coldly, "No interest. If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now."
She grabbed her bag and left quickly, not giving Zhou Xiye a chance to speak.
Zhou Xiye watched Jiang Zhizhi's fleeing figure, somewhat puzzled. This girl seemed very afraid of him.
