Chapter 340 Missing out is missing out
Song Man's wedding was held in the courtyard canteen. Almost everyone in the courtyard went, including Song's father, who rarely came home.
Song Dong and Xu Mingyue brought their two children to the wedding, and Jiang Zhizhi naturally sat at the same table as Xu Mingyue.
Xu Mingyue didn't chat much with Song's relatives, since none of them had played a positive role in her marriage to Song Dong.
She refused to sit at the table with her relatives, and instead squeezed in with Jiang Zhizhi, chatting quietly together.
Xu Mingyue praised softly, "Zhizhi, you've recovered so well. When I saw you during your postpartum period, you seemed a little weak."
Jiang Zhizhi laughed: "During my postpartum period, I was lying in bed every day, eating and sleeping, sleeping and eating. I felt like all my bones were going to rust. It wasn't until a few days later when I was able to get out of bed and move around that I felt much better."
Xu Mingyue smiled and said, "That's because your mother-in-law took good care of you, and it's right to stay in bed less during postpartum confinement. You're studying medicine, so you must know this principle. Back then, I really had no one to help me. I had to get up and cook for myself during my postpartum confinement. Although Song Dong took care of me, he still had to go to work."
"So, I couldn't sit properly for two months during my confinement period, and now my heels and wrists hurt when it's cold."
Speaking of this, Xu Mingyue harbors even more resentment towards Chen Limin, and their relationship is beyond repair.
They whispered to each other until the officiant came on stage to speak. After the officiant finished speaking, the bride and groom toasted everyone.
The two then looked up at the stage. Jiang Zhizhi inadvertently saw a familiar figure at the window behind Song Man. By the time she looked again, the figure had already quickly left.
She told Song Man and quickly slipped out. Sure enough, she saw Li Simin's back on the road connecting the cafeteria and the family compound.
“Brother Simin…”
Jiang Zhizhi called out, and Li Simin stopped and chased after her.
Li Simin turned around with a smile. Three years had passed, and he was still thin, but with a touch of weariness. His complexion was also darker than before when he was in the compound, but he looked healthier.
He smiled gently and said, "Zhizhi, it's been a long time."
Jiang Zhizhi exclaimed in surprise, "It really is you! When did you get back?"
Li Simin smiled nonchalantly: "I just got home and overheard the kids at the door talking about a wedding, so I came over to take a look. I didn't expect it to be Song Man."
Jiang Zhizhi felt a little sorry for Li Simin, and after thinking for a moment, she said, "Auntie is at my house. Would you like to come over for a visit? Oh, by the way, I'm a mother now."
Li Simin was surprised, even incredulous: "You have a child?"
In his memory, although Jiang Zhizhi married Zhou Xiye, she was still like a little girl, happy and carefree every day. How could she suddenly become a mother?
Jiang Zhizhi nodded with a smile: "That's right, she's only three days old. Let's go take a look?"
Li Simin nodded in agreement: "I'm still a little surprised. It feels like I haven't been gone long, and you've already become a mother."
Jiang Zhizhi held up her fingers and said, "What do you mean not long? It's been three years already! Three years! I'm about to graduate."
Li Simin was momentarily dazed, then laughed: "It really is true. I've been away for three years. The compound has changed quite a bit. I met a few kids at the gate, and I didn't recognize any of them."
The two chatted as they returned home. Shang Shiying and Zhou Chengyu were arguing around the sofa in the living room, while their two children lay on the sofa, waving their little hands and playing.
Zhou Chengyu thought that tying the children's hands and feet together would make them sleep better.
Shang Shiying disagreed: "Zhizhi said that binding children is a bad habit, and we should change it. We should let children sleep however they are comfortable."
Zhou Chengyu persisted: "If these legs aren't tied together, they're likely to develop bowlegs later on, and you won't be able to correct them. Look at you and my sister-in-law, you've both been brainwashed by Zhizhi. Don't you think all the kids back then had their legs tied?"
Shang Shiying thought for a moment: "But Sun Dalaba's son was also tied up, and now he has bowlegs too."
Zhou Chengyu was speechless for a moment: "You...you're really arguing with me..."
As they were arguing, Jiang Zhizhi brought Li Simin in.
Shang Shiying smiled as Jiang Zhizhi entered, and was about to ask how Song Man's wedding went.
Seeing Li Simin follow Jiang Zhizhi into the room, she was stunned for several seconds before she reacted. Tears instantly streamed down her face as she rushed to Li Simin's side: "Simin? My God, Simin, when did you get back?"
As she spoke, she grabbed Li Simin's arm, looked him over carefully, tears streaming down her face as she looked, yet she forced a smile: "You child... how long have you been back? Are you leaving again?"
Li Simin supported Shang Shiying and comforted her, "I'm fine. I'm just back for a meeting, and I'm leaving the day after tomorrow."
Shang Shiying was taken aback: "So fast? Then..."
She didn't know what to ask or what to say.
Jiang Zhizhi urged the two of them, "Sit down first, sit down first. Si Min, come and see my babies first."
She pushed Li Simin forward with a hint of pride, as if showing off a treasure: "Look, look! This is the older sister, this is the younger brother, aren't they cute?"
The two little ones were awake, waving their little hands and making grunting noises as they moved their little mouths.
She was probably straining, because her little face turned bright red.
Li Simin never expected that Jiang Zhizhi had given birth to two children. He looked at one incredulously, then at the other: "Are they both yours?"
Jiang Zhizhi chuckled: "Of course, I can't exactly steal a child from somewhere."
Li Simin found it somewhat novel, especially the little girl. Although she hadn't fully grown up yet, she vaguely resembled Jiang Zhizhi when she was little. One could imagine that she would grow up to be a beautiful little girl.
Shang Shiying watched as her son squatted in front of the sofa, looking at the two children intently and attentively.
But his heart couldn't help but ache. Song Man was getting married today. Did he know?
Suddenly, the two children started crying one after the other. Zhou Chengyu and Shang Shiying skillfully went over to pick up the children and change their diapers, and then washed the two little ones' bottoms.
Jiang Zhizhi looked at Li Simin, who was sitting on the sofa and kept turning his head to look at her, and asked curiously, "Brother Simin, you... Sister Song Man was transferred to the south, and she only found a boyfriend this year."
Li Simin snapped out of her reverie and chuckled softly, "Zhizhi, you don't need to worry about me. Actually... as long as she's happy, that's all that matters. As for me, I won't be back for the next few years; I still have a few projects waiting for me."
After saying that, she looked out the window, lost in thought for a moment, and then looked back: "Zhizhi, actually, I've been thinking about this for the past three years. Even if we were to be together, I wouldn't be able to give her companionship. It would be unfair to make her stay with me all the time, since we can't see each other all the time."
Then she looked at Jiang Zhizhi: "Especially seeing that you're at home having and raising your child, while Brother Zhou can't come back, I feel..."
Jiang Zhizhi glared at her and immediately raised her hand: "Alright, that's enough. I was going to comfort you, but it seems I don't need to. If I keep trying to comfort you, you'll just upset me."
