Chapter 390 Dull
Jiang Zhizhi pushed Shang Xingzhou to the small garden opposite the cafeteria, found a bench to sit on, and then looked at Shang Xingzhou: "Didn't you say we couldn't say?"
Shang Xingzhou's eyes instantly reddened: "It is indeed a secret that we are not allowed to say, and we are still searching with all our might. I believe my brother-in-law will definitely be alright."
Jiang Zhizhi remained calm and her voice was even: "So, can you tell me now?"
Shang Xingzhou was silent for a while: "Sister, I know you guessed it. I feel terrible if I don't tell you. I won't go into the details, but we were ambushed at Zhigong River. My brother-in-law had an accident, but we haven't been able to find him."
"This matter cannot be made public yet because it would cause international conflict, but we are also trying to find my brother-in-law, I think..."
Jiang Zhizhi remained expressionless and silent for a while before getting up and pushing Shang Xingzhou: "Didn't you want to eat steamed buns? Let's go buy some."
Shang Xingzhou looked at Jiang Zhizhi in surprise. He had been struggling with whether Jiang Zhizhi would ask a lot of questions if he told her, and how he should answer if she did.
He thought that after he spoke, Jiang Zhizhi would cry and lose control of her emotions.
However, Jiang Zhizhi didn't react at all; she didn't even show the slightest reaction.
Shang Xingzhou didn't know what to say. He pursed his lips and let Jiang Zhizhi push him to the cafeteria. She got a few steamed buns, packed them in a lunchbox, and then had Shang Xingzhou carry them while she pushed him back.
Unable to bear the silence any longer, Shang Xingzhou, holding the lunchbox in one hand and gripping the wheelchair wheel with the other, forced Jiang Zhizhi to stop.
He turned his wheelchair around to face Jiang Zhizhi, looked up at her and said, "Sister, if you're feeling down, you can cry. It's so much harder to keep it all inside."
Jiang Zhizhi frowned: "Didn't you say the search and rescue was still ongoing, and that they might still be alive? Why am I crying?"
Her heart was numb, and her mind was working mechanically. It wasn't that she didn't want to cry, but at this moment, she just couldn't shed a tear.
Shang Xingzhou pursed his lips, looking somewhat dejected: "Sister, but I'm very worried about you like this."
Jiang Zhizhi looked at him seriously: "Even if I cry, he won't come back immediately. So, my crying won't change anything. Besides, I believe your brother-in-law will definitely come back."
She walked over and pushed the wheelchair, saying, "Everyone is waiting for breakfast. You need to be careful and don't let my mother-in-law and the others notice anything unusual."
Shang Xingzhou stopped talking, gripping the lunchbox tightly. He felt as if a huge stone was lodged in his heart, and even felt a sense of powerlessness.
He could sense that Jiang Zhizhi must be very sad, but he didn't know how to help her.
When she got home, Jiang Zhizhi had already put on a smile and went to her two children. The two little ones, who were eating, called out to their mother as soon as they saw her approaching, their little mouths never stopping, just like two little parrots.
Jiang Zhizhi smiled and patted Shang Shang's head, then patted Xiao Zhouji's head: "Let Mom see, who's made a little cat out of food?"
Little Zhou was just laughing, while Shang Shang's eyes lit up as she called out "Cat Cat."
Shang Xingzhou watched Jiang Zhizhi playing with the two children, his heart feeling like it was riddled with holes and then soaked in salt water, the pain suffocating him.
At breakfast, Fang Hua was still saying, "If Xingzhou likes steamed buns, ask Sister Chen to make some tomorrow. Sister Chen's steamed buns are even better than the ones in the cafeteria. What kind of filling does Xingzhou like?"
Shang Xingzhou was stunned for a moment, then quickly shook his head: "No, no, I just ate steamed buns from the cafeteria with Yuan Chao before. I was probably too hungry while playing outside, so I thought they were especially delicious and I've been missing that taste ever since."
Fang Hua smiled and said, "Don't be shy, just tell me what you'd like to eat."
After saying that, he said to Jiang Zhizhi, "I'll have Sister Chen bring you lunch at noon. You've lost weight recently. Have you been too busy at the hospital to eat?"
Jiang Zhizhi hasn't eaten lunch recently; she simply can't swallow it.
She quickly stopped Fang Hua, saying, "No need, no need, the food in the hospital cafeteria is alright."
Fang Hua frowned: "What do you mean 'can't'? It's not like I haven't eaten it before. There's no oil in the stew. Only the food in the VIP ward is a bit better, but even then, it's not something you can eat every day."
"Don't worry about it, just have Sister Chen deliver it to you. No matter how busy you are with work, you must take care of your health."
Jiang Zhizhi was afraid that refusing again would worry Fang Hua, and she really needed to pull herself together; the family needed her, and the two children needed her too.
She didn't have much time to be sad or grieving.
Fang Hua then asked what she wanted to eat, and Jiang Zhizhi had no objection: "Anything is fine, no need to go to too much trouble."
Fang Hua thought for a moment and instructed Sister Chen: "Make rice for lunch, Zhizhi likes rice. Cook some beef and stir-fry some tomatoes and eggs."
Jiang Zhizhi wanted to say that it wasn't so extravagant, since everyone brings two dishes for lunch, but seeing how happy Fang Hua was with the arrangements, she could only smile and remain silent.
Shang Xingzhou watched from the side, and the more he saw Jiang Zhizhi's smile, the more upset he felt. He lowered his head and silently ate his steamed bun.
After Fang Hua finished speaking, he watched Shang Xingzhou eat his steamed bun without saying a word and smiled, "I feel that Xingzhou's personality has become much more stable after two years in the army. Indeed, the army is the best place to train people."
Bian Suxi smiled and said, "Yes, she used to be very naughty. I didn't expect her to change so much."
After saying that, he glanced at Jiang Zhizhi again.
After breakfast, Jiang Zhizhi left for work. Bian Suxi glanced at Shang Shiying and said, "Sister, you stay here with your wife and take care of the child. I'll push Zhou back to rest first."
Shang Shiying didn't think much of it: "Okay, when you get home, ask those three brats to help you out. I'll be back later."
Fang Hua didn't stop him: "Xingzhou needs to take good care of himself, and so does Suxi. They should rest more when they have nothing to do."
After thinking for a moment, he said, "I'll have Sister Chen take you back."
Bian Suxi refused: "No need, no need, I can push him, it's not far."
Seeing that Bian Suxi insisted, Fang Hua felt embarrassed to be too enthusiastic and saw them to the gate.
Shang Shiying guessed that the mother and son must have something to say to each other, but it was probably inconvenient to do so in front of her.
Bian Suxi pushed Shang Xingzhou along as they walked, asking, "Shang Xingzhou, tell me the truth, do you know why your sister is sad?"
Shang Xingzhou said, holding back, "I don't know. I only came out to ask because she seemed to be in a bad mood, but I didn't get any information from her."
Bian Suxi abruptly stopped her wheelchair, turned it around, and glared at Shang Xingzhou: "Shang Xingzhou, you're my son, do you think I don't know what's going on in your mind? Tell me right now, what exactly happened?"
Shang Xingzhou stepped back: "Mom, I can't say it. If I could, I would have said it already. You're forcing me to make me make a mistake."
Bian Suxi reached out and tapped Shang Xingzhou on the head: "So, your brother-in-law got into trouble? How did your sister find out?"
