Chapter 7 Being Unwittingly Implicated
Jiang Zhizhi was quite certain that the original owner did not know this woman either, and that the subsequent education taught her to talk less to strangers, not to eat food from strangers, and not to drink water from strangers.
So I was a little wary of the old lady's enthusiasm and approach: "I don't know you, you may have recognized the wrong person."
The old lady slapped her leg and said, "I'm sure I didn't recognize her wrongly. How could I have recognized such a beautiful girl? You were still a child back then. Do you remember the tailor shop next to your home when you were a child?"
"I made all the clothes in your yard. I still remember when you were little, you had two pigtails and big, pretty eyes. I told your mom that you'd be a beauty when you grew up."
"I was wondering why you looked familiar. You haven't changed much since you were a kid. You're still just as pretty."
Then he said to the others, "I worked in a tailor's shop at that time. The people who lived in this girl's yard were all remarkable people. The other children wore coarse linen, but many of the children in their yard wore polyester, and some even wore silk."
Seeing how enthusiastic she was, Jiang Zhizhi felt a little uncertain. Could it be that she had really seen the original owner as a child?
The old lady enthusiastically chatted with the others and took out the crabapples she had brought from her bag and shared them with everyone: "They're from the trees at home, and they're quite sweet."
He also offered Jiang Zhizhi some food, but Jiang Zhizhi smiled and refused: "No, I don't feel like eating right now."
The old lady didn't pay any attention and started praising the child across the street for being good-looking: "Your son is good-looking too, and he looks smart. How old is he this year?"
Jiang Zhizhi felt a bit noisy, so she touched her injured wrist, leaned back in her chair, and closed her eyes to rest. She had stayed up all night at the train station and hadn't slept at all. Although it was incredibly noisy next to her, she actually fell asleep with the swaying of the train.
She slept very soundly, and Jiang Zhizhi didn't know how long she had slept when she heard a sharp cry in her ear: "Stop the car! Stop the car! My son hasn't gotten on yet!"
Jiang Zhizhi was woken up, her head still a little dizzy. She rubbed her eyes and looked at the crying woman opposite her.
The two elderly women beside him were also gone.
When the woman saw that Jiang Zhizhi was awake, she clung to her like a lifeline: "Don't you know that auntie from earlier? Where is she from? Where does she live? She got my son out of the car and didn't get back in."
The woman's husband, meanwhile, frantically went to find the train police.
Jiang Zhizhi frowned: "Your son is missing?"
The woman started to cry: "Just now the train arrived at the station, and the aunt said she would take my son for a walk, so I said a few words to my husband and got off the train to look for them, but there was no sign of them. I thought he was on the train, but who knew he was not on the train either. Now the train has left, and there is still no sign of him..."
She grew increasingly anxious as she spoke, jumping up and down on the spot: "If my son is lost, how am I supposed to live..."
Jiang Zhizhi was shocked. How could this couple be so heartless as to let a stranger take their child away? And the child looked only five or six years old. How could they be so at ease?
People around them advised, "Don't worry, maybe they went to the restroom and got into the wrong carriage? Call the train attendant to come and look for them."
"Yes, it will definitely not be lost. Nowadays, everyone has children. It's hard to even get enough food. If we bring a child back, there will be more mouths to feed."
Everyone offered their advice, but it did nothing to reassure the woman; instead, she cried even louder.
The woman's husband quickly came over with the train attendant and anxiously recounted the entire incident, which was pretty much the same as what the woman had said: "I thought that woman was quite honest. She took my son off the train first, and I gave my wife some money and asked her to see if there was anything to eat on the platform. In just a moment, they disappeared after getting off the train."
"Comrade, you absolutely must help us find our child! Otherwise, how will we live?"
After listening with a frown, the train police officer noticed that the woman had asked Jiang Zhizhi if she knew the two old ladies. So, he took all three of them to the dining car to find out.
Jiang Zhizhi was wronged; she woke up after a nap and found herself an accomplice to a suspect.
She still cooperated by carrying her bag and following the train police to the dining car.
Zhou Xiye, Zhang Zhao, and Wang Changkun were also in the dining car. The three of them were having a small meeting, their expressions somewhat serious. Just now, the train conductor received a call from the station that two serious criminals had escaped onto this train. The two were responsible for several deaths, and their methods were cruel and extremely dangerous. The train conductor was instructed to capture the two without alerting the passengers.
The train conductor knew that the police force on board was limited, and he didn't want to think about the consequences if the two men were alerted.
I happened to see Zhou Xiye and two other men in military uniforms and asked them for help.
Upon seeing the train police officer bring in the couple and Jiang Zhizhi, Zhou Xiye and the others stopped talking and looked over.
After the woman came in, she kept crying: "If my son is gone, I don't want to live anymore."
The train police officer frowned: "Calm down first. Why did you wait until the train had left to tell us that your child was missing?"
The man, his eyes also red, said, "We were thinking of looking in the car, and maybe she'd come back once the car left. Who would have thought she'd abduct the child? The two elderly people seemed frail and kind-hearted; how could she do this?"
The train police officer then asked Jiang Zhizhi, who was sitting next to him, "Do you know the old lady sitting next to you?"
Jiang Zhizhi shook her head honestly: "I don't know her. She said she saw me when I was little, but I have no memory of it at all. Besides, I was asleep when they were talking, so I had no idea what they were talking about."
After arguing for a long time without any result, the conductor asked the couple to go back first while he contacted the next station to see if there would be any result.
Zhou Xiye watched the group quietly until his gaze finally fell on the man's shoes: black cloth shoes with white soles and a dark red trim around the edges. There were also dark red spots on the light gray trouser legs.
He gave a look to Zhang Zhao and Wang Changkun, then calmly withdrew his glance.
The three of them tacitly waited for the right opportunity.
Just then, the train police officer noticed something amiss and called out to the man who was about to reach the dining car door: "Wait a minute, what's that on your pants? And why is there blood on the soles of your shoes?"
A sinister glint flashed in the man's eyes. He quickly turned around, grabbed Jiang Zhizhi's hair, and dragged her into the nearby restroom.
The door slammed shut.
But the woman he was traveling with was a step slower. Before she could run, Zhang Zhao jumped over the conductor and pushed her to the ground.
Wang Changkun looked at the toilet door and looked at Zhou Xiye with some concern: "Boss, what should we do? That girl is in great danger if she is dragged in."
Zhou Xiye was also worried. Although the girl was skilled, the toilet was a small space and she had an injured arm. If she was pulled in so suddenly, it would be difficult for her to use her skills, which would be very dangerous.
Looking around, he said, "You and Zhang Zhao kick down the door, I'll climb onto the roof and enter through the window from the outside..."
