Chapter 79 Education

Chapter 79 Education

Yang Fengmei panicked, put down her trowel, looked around to make sure no one was watching, and whispered to Jiang Zhizhi, "It was Sun Xiaoyue who came to see me and gave me fifty yuan and ten jin of grain coupons."

Jiang Zhizhi knew that Sun Xiaoyue must have been involved.

Yang Fengmei sighed, "I would like to be proud and not take it, but Sun Xiaoyue has a point. What's done is done, what good will it do me to make a scene? It's better to keep the money and food coupons in my hands."

He paused for a moment after speaking, then added, "However, I also know that Sun Xiaoyue doesn't have any good intentions. Don't worry, I'm on guard."

"I'm just treating this shameless old man as a prostitute to make money now."

Jiang Zhizhi didn't know what to say: "Then keep your money and food coupons safe and take good care of yourself."

Yang Fengmei nodded repeatedly: "I've figured it out too. You're right. Being good to yourself is better than being good to anyone else. If you have a healthy body, you can take care of Dazhuang's children in the future."

Jiang Zhizhi fell silent again. Even she herself couldn't control Yang Fengmei's spirit of dedication!

...

With a stove, you can cook for yourself.

Yang Fengmei found a jar, filled it with some oil for Jiang Zhizhi, and then filled a bowl with half a bowl of lard and brought it over, reminding Jiang Zhizhi to keep a close eye on the fire.

For dinner, Jiang Zhizhi tried to cook in the yard. Although the earthen stove wasn't dry yet, it was still usable, but it produced a lot of smoke.

Jiang Zhizhi ate at the Liang family's house and even learned how to start a fire. Now, she was lying on the ground, blowing on the weak flames in the stove. The stove was still too damp, so the flames didn't get strong. Instead, a thick smoke billowed out, choking Jiang Zhizhi and making her cough. She reached up and brushed the hair off her face.

It choked me so much that tears streamed down my face. I coughed and stepped aside, squinting to soothe my stinging eyes.

I vaguely saw two figures enter the yard, but I couldn't make out their details even by squinting. I assumed they were looking for the village officials, so I waved them off and said, "The Party Secretary and the accountant/cashier have gone to work and will be there early tomorrow morning."

The two ignored her and walked straight up to her.

Jiang Zhizhi rubbed her eyes, enduring the burning sensation in them, before she could finally see who it was.

It turned out to be Bian Xiaoxiao and a middle-aged woman.

The woman was in her fifties, with short, ear-length hair. She was well-maintained, with fair skin, and must have been a beauty in her youth. However, due to her serious demeanor, the corners of her lips were slightly downturned, and she had noticeable frown lines between her eyebrows.

She has the image of a stern female cadre at first glance.

Jiang Zhizhi asked in confusion, "Who are you looking for?"

Could it be that you're looking for her?

Bian's mother glanced disdainfully at Jiang Zhizhi, whose clothes were somewhat old and dusty, and whose face was dirty, then turned to look at Bian Xiaoxiao with suspicion: "You mean her?"

Bian Xiaoxiao nodded: "Mom, it's her."

Bian's mother turned back and looked sternly at Jiang Zhizhi. Her tone was even more authoritative: "You should stay away from Zhou Xiye in the future. A girl should learn to respect herself."

Jiang Zhizhi chuckled: "Who are you guys? Here to lecture me?"

Bian's mother was angered by Jiang Zhizhi's dismissive tone. She had worked in the government office for decades and had always been a leader. No one dared to speak to her in such a tone.

He frowned and looked at Jiang Zhizhi with disdain: "Is this how your parents raised you? You have no manners at all. Is this how you talk to your superiors and elders?"

Jiang Zhizhi found it a bit funny: "Who are you? Are you my elder or my boss? You come up here and inexplicably scold me, and I have to respect you? Do I have some serious illness? Also, if you want to support your daughter, please get out of here and go find Zhou Xiye and have him marry your daughter directly."

Bian's mother was very angry: "What's your name? What do you do? What do your parents do?"

Looking at Jiang Zhizhi's dirty face, I felt disgusted, but her clear and beautiful eyes seemed familiar, even giving me a sense of warmth.

Suppressing the strange thoughts in his heart, he looked at Jiang Zhizhi with dissatisfaction.

Jiang Zhizhi was so angry she almost laughed: "What a big official attitude! I'm right here, do whatever you want to me! I'd like to see what kind of crime you'll pin on me for."

Seeing Jiang Zhizhi's arrogant attitude, Bian Xiaoxiao tugged at her mother's arm: "Mom, let it go. If Xiye finds out, he'll definitely be angry."

Mother Bian frowned: "So what if you know?"

Then, he spoke sharply to Jiang Zhizhi: "My daughter and Zhou Xiye grew up together; they're childhood sweethearts. I'm also very good friends with Zhou Xiye's mother. So, I hope you'll behave yourself and not covet people who don't belong to you."

"Our Bian family can help Zhou Xiye get transferred out of here in the future. With our Bian family's help, his future will be even better."

"And what can you, a country bumpkin, offer him?"

Jiang Zhizhi suddenly laughed, her eyes crinkling as she smiled at Bian's mother: "What can I give him? I love him, and I can have his children, isn't that enough?"

Bian's mother was furious that Jiang Zhizhi could retort so fluently, and pointed her finger at her nose, saying, "You, you have no shame!"

Bian Xiaoxiao discovered that Jiang Zhizhi was a complete scoundrel, and even her mother's presence couldn't change her.

Bian's mother felt that continuing to talk to Jiang Zhizhi was a waste of time: "I'm not talking to you anymore. I'm going to find Zhou Xiye's mother. I'd like to see if she would even consider a country bumpkin like you."

Then he pulled Bian Xiaoxiao and said, "Let's go. There's no need to waste words on someone so ill-mannered."

Jiang Zhizhi smiled indifferently: "My biological mother died, and she certainly didn't have much manners, but I still know how to write shame. Unlike some people, who, even when a man doesn't want them, still insist on dragging their daughters along to him."

Bian's mother was furious, her face turning ashen. She pulled Bian Xiaoxiao out of the room, as if she would die of anger if she said even one more word to Jiang Zhizhi.

After leaving the village committee, Bian Xiaoxiao was a little sad: "Mom, let's just forget about it. You don't need to be angry about this."

How could Mother Bian let it go so easily? How could she possibly save face after being rebuked by such a young girl?

"Don't worry, I'll call Zhou Xiye's mother when I get back. As long as she agrees, you can marry Zhou Xiye."

Bian Xiaoxiao bit her lower lip: "But I also heard that Uncle Zhou arranged a wife for Zhou Xiye, and the marriage application has been approved."

Bian's mother sneered, "So what? As long as we're not married, I can make her disregard it."

"And that arrogant little girl, I'll make sure she can't stay in this village anymore!"

Bian Xiaoxiao couldn't help but smile. As long as Jiang Zhizhi didn't stay in this village, she wouldn't have a chance to get close to Zhou Xiye!

As Bian's mother was speaking, she suddenly remembered something and asked her daughter, "Xiaoxiao, I just saw that little country girl with yellow hair, and she looked kind of familiar. Did you notice her?"

That feeling still makes her inexplicably uneasy whenever she thinks about it.
