"Lu Fan, you two stay here and keep watch at both entrances. Shi Shi and I are going to the Public Security Bureau."

Xie Lin took out his military ID and handed it over. The words "deputy regimental commander" instantly perked him up, and his drowsiness vanished.
"Yes, I'm sorry, I didn't know who you were. May I ask what business you have with the bureau chief?"
"He should be home at this time, probably asleep. If it's not urgent, could we wait until tomorrow?"
Xie Lin tried his best to be patient. "I have a life-or-death matter to discuss with him in person. Please have him come here immediately."

If it's because of the missing soldier, then why is the person in charge able to rest easy?
Xie Lin let out a deep breath and asked, "The deputy director is busy with inspections, so why is the director going home to sleep?"

So law enforcement officers don't take this seriously at all.
Security in this remote town is surprisingly lax.
"Quack, immediately check the files here. I need the director's information. I'll go meet him after I'm done."

Two minutes later, the documents were in hand.
"Thanks, you've got the information. The director's house is just across the street from that courtyard where the secret passage entrance is located."
They were just across the street and had no idea the whole place had been turned upside down. Even kids wouldn't believe it if you told them.
“Okay, let’s go to the Armed Forces Department. You go and input the entire map of the town, including the border area.”
Wasting his time, we'll settle this score later.
"Don't worry, this is an essential part of my job wherever I go."
Shishi only stared at Xiao Gong'an for a short while at the beginning, and then her gaze was fixed on the wall of the largest office.
There was a small hidden compartment there, containing no valuables, only a small notebook written in bird language, which she couldn't understand.
After going out the door, she whispered, "Hey, there's a small hidden compartment on the wall behind the biggest office cabinet, about the size of a brick. There's nothing in it except a small notebook."
"There's a brick blocking the outside of the hidden compartment, sealing it off completely. Normally, no one could find it."
She discovered it because a small insect was fluttering in the hidden compartment, and she sensed the movement.
