Chapter 115 The Police Have Arrived

"Don't hit him yet, let's talk when we see Xia Jianguo."

They came today mainly to scare the Xia family and persuade Xia Jianguo to stop mentioning divorce, but Xia Jianguo didn't even show up.

The Wu brothers didn't dare go into his room, fearing that Xia Wan, that madwoman, would beat them when she returned.

Wu Zhaodi had given them special instructions at home: once they arrived at the Xia family, they should not mess with Xia Wan, no matter who she was with, because the brat would beat anyone when she went crazy.

However, Xia Wan doesn't care about anyone except her father. They can scare the two old men in the Xia family, and it's possible that the two old men will put pressure on Xia Jianguo to not get a divorce.

"Are you fucking asking for a beating? Come on, if you've got the guts, then do it." Xia Jianjun stubbornly rammed forward, about to hit Wu Guangtang.

"The captain is here."

Someone shouted something, which stopped both sides from fighting.

Xia Wan was a little disappointed that the battle didn't happen, but she wouldn't mind if there was some excitement to watch while she was doing her job.

"Hey, why did you bring the police with you?"

"Oh dear, who called the police? Why did such a trivial matter require the police to be called in?"

"It was brought by the brigade leader, so it shouldn't have been reported by them. Our brigade is probably going to become a model case again this year."

"Could it be that Xia Wan reported it to the police? Wouldn't that implicate us?"

When Xia Wan saw the captain leading the police officers over, she raised an eyebrow. Could it be that the captain had finally had enough of the Xia family's troublemaking ways and was planning to hand them over to the authorities?

She has no recollection of catching the wanted criminal, nor does she remember the police promising to deliver a banner of appreciation to her in the next few days.

When everyone saw the police, they became very quiet and no one dared to say anything more. Xia Jianjun and the Wu brothers, who had been furious just moments before, now huddled to one side like quails.

Everyone was waiting for the captain to say something when the younger policeman spoke up: "Comrade Xia, we've finally found you! My master and I are here to present you with a banner."

"Here, Comrade Xia, this is your bonus." Officer Sun also came over and handed Xia Wan an envelope containing her bonus.

Xia Wan then remembered this incident; she had been so focused on points these past few days that she almost missed out on a bonus.

"Thank you, officers. It's really kind of you to make this special trip." The officers who came today were Officer Sun and Officer Liang, whom Xia Wan had met before. Xia Wan took the envelope and touched it discreetly.

Hmm...that's quite a lot, the bonus is substantial!

"Comrade Xia, you're too kind. I should have sent this banner to you earlier, but it was delivered a bit late these past two days, so I waited until today to send it all together!"

As he spoke, Sun Gong'an gestured to his apprentice to give the banner to Xia Wan, then turned to the brigade leader and said, "Brigade Leader Wu, the young people in your village are all outstanding. Comrade Xia has made a great contribution this time, and the leaders above have said that she will be given a major reward."

They had misunderstood before, thinking that Xia Wan and her family had been sent down to the countryside. He thought that they should support such a good comrade.

After arriving at Huaihua Brigade, we learned about Xia Wan's situation from Brigade Leader Wu. Only then did we realize that it was all a misunderstanding. She said she was an educated youth who accompanied her father to the hospital, but it turned out that she had been switched at birth when she was a child and had now returned to her original family.

Wu Guohua's face was beaming with joy as he looked at Xia Wan with admiration in his eyes: "Officer Sun is right. Comrade Xia Wan is strong and helpful. Don't underestimate this young comrade because of his age; he has a very high level of awareness."

He had forgotten how Xia Wan had hit someone and caused him trouble yesterday. Now, he was only grateful that he had transferred Xia Wan to their brigade when he was taking in the educated youth.

They really brought honor to their brigade!

No one expected that the police had come to present Xia Wan with a banner. The Wu family was now terrified. With the police here, they dared not cause any trouble, for fear that Xia Wan would take this opportunity to make things difficult for them.

Sun Gong'an seemed to only then notice so many people in the courtyard, and asked in confusion, "It's quite lively here right now, what are you all doing here?"

He asked the question casually, but no one around dared to answer. The captain glared at the Wu family: "What's going on? What are you doing?"

It's obvious at a glance that these two companies are fighting, but I don't know why.

The child who took Xia Wan's candy went to find the brigade leader, but couldn't find him and hasn't returned yet.

So the captain really doesn't know what happened.

However, the onlookers outside quickly explained the whole story to the captain and the police officers.

"No... Captain, this... this can't be blamed on us, it was Xia Jianguo... he was being a hooligan, we were just trying to get justice for my sister!" Wu Guangli's tone was full of guilt.

The captain was so angry he almost kicked him. If it weren't for the police officers there, he would have lost his temper long ago: "What nonsense are you spouting? How many years has your sister been married to Xia Jianguo? What do you mean by 'playing hooligan'?"

“Those two have been together for half their lives, and he only just thought of divorcing my sister? How could such a thing happen? Nothing like this has ever happened in our brigade.” Wu Guangli spoke with his neck held high, feeling more and more justified as he spoke, becoming increasingly righteous and self-assured.

That's right, there haven't been any divorce cases in their Huaihua Brigade. Why should Xia Jianguo, a paralyzed man, get a divorce? He's lucky to have a woman who won't abandon him.

"Others don't get divorced because they have happy and loving lives. My dad wants a divorce because there are problems in his relationship. The leaders have said that marriage is free in this new society. Why are you nagging so much and not letting my dad get a divorce? Are you having a problem with what the leaders said?"

Xia Wan looked at Wu Guangli with a sneer, and seeing his panicked expression, she continued, "My father not only wants a divorce, but he also wants to return all the money you've taken from my family over the years. My father has an obligation to support his wife and children, but he has no obligation to support your entire Wu family!"

Of course, these weren't his father's words, but since this family is so ungrateful, let's find a reason to scare them a little, and not get entangled any longer. It's better to leave them as soon as possible.

Upon hearing this, Wu Guangli became even more anxious, pointing at Xia Wan and saying, "You brat, don't talk nonsense! We didn't take your father's money! Big sister, say something! You didn't take money from your parents' home, did you?"

"Ah...yes, Xia Wan, don't talk nonsense. All the money in the family was used to treat your father's illness, or...your brother gave it to your grandparents. It has nothing to do with your uncles."

When Wu Zhaodi saw her younger brother giving her a meaningful look, she didn't have time to react before continuing on his words.

Unfortunately, no one believed him. After all, whenever Wu Zhaodi brought things or money home, her family would boast about it.

Everyone in Huaihua Brigade knows that Wu Zhaodi used her husband's family's money to support her own family; it's all been witnessed by others. Now, no one believes her explanation.
