After a lot of hard work, Xia Wan and her group finally managed to get their things into the city. When they stepped into the fairly tidy house, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Looking back on this moving journey, it was truly full of hardships and difficulties. Fortunately, my two good friends, Li Chengjun and Wu Xiangdong, came to help without hesitation, which made the whole process much smoother.
At this moment, Xia Wan, filled with gratitude, said enthusiastically to the two men, "Brother Xiang Dong, Brother Jun, thank you so much for today! I don't know what I would have done without your help. Come on, let me treat you to a good meal at the state-run restaurant!"
"Yes, yes, I should treat you to a meal. It's a good opportunity for us to sit down and have a good chat." Xia Tao said, pulling the two of them together to head outside.
Seeing this, Li Chengjun quickly smiled and waved his hand, politely declining, "Do we need to be so polite between us? This is just a small favor, and with Xia Wan's strength, even if the two of us didn't help, moving these things shouldn't be a problem for you, right?"
He still remembered the last time he saw the other person carry that wild boar all by himself; he was really impressive!
Wu Xiangdong chimed in, "That's right, girl, you're really strong! Besides, Captain Li not only came to help in person, but also went out of his way to borrow a tractor. I only lent a hand; I didn't really help much. So, let's skip this meal and not be so formal with us."
However, the forthright Xia Wan refused to listen to their excuses. With her hands on her hips, she firmly retorted, "How can that be! You two have been busy all day for me, putting in so much effort. If I don't even treat you to a thank-you meal, I'll feel terrible. This meal is absolutely on you, and neither of you is allowed to refuse!"
After she finished speaking, she didn't give the two of them any chance to speak again. She suddenly tightened her grip on them and then strode hurriedly towards the door.
However, at that moment, Xia Tao, not to be outdone, reached out and grabbed the two men, his attitude unusually firm, stating that he absolutely had to treat them to a meal at the state-run restaurant. And so, the three of them, pulling and shoving each other, struggled their way to the entrance of the state-run restaurant.
As soon as they pushed open the door, a lively and bustling atmosphere surged in like a tidal wave, instantly engulfing them.
The spacious and bright hall was bustling with people, with noise rising and falling. Some were talking and laughing loudly, while others were enjoying their food. It was quite a lively scene.
Xia Tao quickly spotted an empty seat and hurriedly pulled them over to sit down.
He then volunteered to get up and go to the order counter to order food.
Since there were far fewer customers dining at this time compared to before, their dishes were served one after another in no time.
"Come on, everyone, don't be shy with me, let's eat to our hearts' content!" Xia Wan greeted everyone with a big smile and enthusiastically encouraged them to start eating.
Seeing this, Xia Tao couldn't wait any longer and stretched out his chopsticks, accurately picking up a piece of braised pork with an enticing color and a fragrant aroma, and quickly put it into his mouth.
As he savored the food, he exclaimed with satisfaction, "Ah, the food from this state-run restaurant is truly delicious! It's so fragrant!"
Wu Xiangdong, who was standing to the side, nodded repeatedly in agreement, saying, "That's right, that's right, girl, you should eat more too!"
Xia Wan smiled as she watched the two men wolfing down their food, a feeling of sweetness and joy welling up inside her.
Being able to sit together with family and friends and share a delicious meal is such a wonderful feeling.
And so, amidst laughter and cheerful chatter, the sumptuous and delicious meal was devoured in no time.
Everyone ate to their heart's content and thoroughly enjoyed themselves; this dinner party was a joy for both host and guests!
After the meal, Li Chengjun offered to take Xia Wan, Xia Tao, and Wu Xiangdong back to the village because he needed to return the borrowed tractor.
With a series of "putt-putt-putt..." sounds, Li Chengjun skillfully started the slightly old tractor. It wobbled along the dusty dirt road, each turn of the wheels causing the vehicle to shake violently.
Xia Wan, Xia Tao, and Wu Xiangdong sat in the spacious back of the truck, swaying from side to side with the vehicle's movement. At first, they chatted idly, but their attention was quickly drawn to the terrible road conditions.
"Oh dear, this road is so bumpy!" Xia Wan couldn't help but complain, gripping the edge of the truck bed tightly with both hands, trying to steady herself.
Her butt was practically bounced into eight pieces!
Xia Tao couldn't help but laugh when he saw his sister's disheveled appearance: "Haha, just bear with it. It's already pretty good that we have a car to ride in. It's much better than walking, right?"
Xia Wan rolled her eyes at her brother, then fell silent, gazing into the distance and silently praying to get back to the village quickly. Just then, Li Chengjun, who was focused on driving, suddenly shouted, "There seems to be someone up ahead!"
His voice shattered the brief silence, sending everyone's hearts leaping into their throats.
Upon hearing this, Li Chengjun slammed on the brakes, and the immense inertia propelled the three people in the truck bed and the cargo forward.
Fortunately, everyone reacted quickly and braced themselves with their hands in time, preventing them from falling.
"Let's go, let's get out and see what's going on!" Xia Wan didn't have time to think and was the first to jump out of the car.
