Chapter 369 Zhao Guodong's Thoughts

If he knew that he had taken Xia Shuhua's body, given his deep affection for Xia Shuhua, wouldn't he kill himself?

But even if such an unbelievable thing were told, who would believe it?

This sounds like a fantasy, utterly absurd, and would only make people think she's crazy and send her to a mental hospital.

She could only rely on a strong premonition deep in her heart to keep telling herself that she had to stay away from the Xia family. Only in this way could she keep her hard-won body, keep her current life, and continue to live peacefully as Xia Shuhua.

However, Zhao Guodong considered her concerns to be nothing more than unfounded worries and baseless speculation.

Zhao Guodong didn't take her words to heart at all. He even showed some impatience with her ramblings, his brows furrowing slightly to form a shallow "川" shape, and a hint of barely perceptible annoyance flashing in his eyes, as if he were looking at an unreasonable child.

“You’re overthinking it,” Zhao Guodong said, stepping forward and gently taking Zhou Jing’s hand, trying to comfort her with his warmth, but his palm was also ice-cold. “Xia Wan is just a young girl; she poses no threat to you at all.”

He tried to dispel her concerns with a gentle tone, his voice as soft as a spring breeze, but his tightly clenched hand, with a force so great it almost crushed Zhou Jing's fingers, was like a signal of betrayal, revealing his inner urgency.

“Your dad loves you so much. If you don’t go back, he’ll be so heartbroken. We’ll just stay for a couple of days and then come back. It’s not like we’re never coming back.” As he spoke, he gently stroked Zhou Jing’s hand with his other hand, as if comforting a frightened fawn.

Zhou Jing bit her lip, her pearly teeth sinking into her soft lower lip, leaving a faint trace of pink blood, her heart filled with turmoil.

Looking at Zhao Guodong, the man she loved deeply but dared not fully trust, for a moment she really wanted to tell him the whole truth, to tell him that she was not Xia Shuhua, to tell him that she lived in fear every day, every minute and every second worried about being exposed, worried that her world would collapse in an instant.

But reason was like a bucket of cold water poured over her head, instantly extinguishing her impulsive thought.

She knew that once she spoke, what awaited her might be an abyss of no return, all peace and tranquility would be taken away from her, and she would lose everything she had now, including Zhao Guodong's love.

“I…I still don’t feel well,” Zhou Jing’s voice was pleading, as if she were bargaining with fate. “I haven’t been feeling well lately, so I just want to stay home and rest.”

Zhou Jing tried to use physical discomfort as an excuse, hoping to persuade Zhao Guodong to give up. She knew in her heart that this might be the only reason she could refuse to return to the Xia family. As long as she could get through this ordeal, she would find a way to get away from the Xia family and this false world that could collapse at any moment.

She prayed silently in her heart, hoping that Zhao Guodong would believe her and let her go.
