There was relief; this farce was finally coming to an end. She would no longer have to face this chaotic situation, and a huge weight was lifted from her heart. There was also a touch of sadness, for the maternal love she had never had, for the irreparably broken family bond. Those days of longing for maternal love were gone forever, leaving only a heart full of regret. Tears finally welled up in her eyes and slid down her cheeks.
A hint of loneliness flickered in her eyes as she gazed at the end of the alley, lost in thought for a long time, as if recalling painful memories or lamenting the capriciousness of fate.
After a quick meal, Xia Wan used the system to check Wu Zhaodi's current situation. Seeing that Wu Zhaodi had been dragged back by the man, beaten, and locked up, Xia Wan shrugged and closed the system interface, feeling no emotion whatsoever. It was as if Wu Zhaodi deserved her retribution. A slight, almost imperceptible, cold smile played on her lips, as if she were saying goodbye to past pain, or declaring that she had finally broken free from the shackles of the past and was stepping into a new life.
She took a deep breath, feeling the afternoon sun, and a sense of unprecedented ease welled up inside her, as if she had put down a heavy burden and was ready to embrace a new life. She raised her head, looked into the distance, and her eyes were filled with hope, as if she could see a beautiful future.
On a sweltering summer day, the blazing sun hangs high in the clear, boundless blue sky, pouring down its intense and dazzling rays without reservation.
Light filters through layers of lush, verdant leaves, which act like natural filters, splitting the sunlight into countless tiny beams that cast delicate, dynamic shadows on the ground. It's as if nature itself has meticulously crafted a dreamlike golden tapestry, each shimmering with enchanting light. They sway gently in the breeze, like playful sprites leaping across the golden tapestry.
A gentle breeze, like a tender messenger, softly brushes past with light steps, rustling the leaves. The sounds intertwine, as if joyfully playing a gentle and soothing summer melody. The melody contains the whispers of the leaves and the soft murmurs of the breeze, its rhythm echoing in the air, adding a touch of comfort and tranquility to this peaceful afternoon, making one unable to help but be captivated by it.
Xia Wan returned from outside at that moment, carrying a basket of fresh ingredients steadily in her hands.
In the basket, the tender green leaves of the cabbage still held morning dewdrops, shimmering in the sunlight like translucent pearls, round and pure; the bright red tomatoes were juicy and ripe, their plump fruits exuding an enticing aroma, like rubies gifted by nature, radiating a captivating luster; and a few fresh eggs lay quietly in a corner of the basket, their smooth surfaces reflecting soft light, as if telling a story of home's warmth and coziness, stirring a feeling of warmth in one's heart.
Her steps were light and graceful, her figure elegant, each step like a dance, each movement full of rhythm. Her soft hair swayed gently in the breeze, like willow branches swaying in the wind, light and beautiful. She was like a vivid painting blending into this beautiful summer day, exuding youth and vitality from the inside out, complementing the surrounding natural scenery perfectly.
As soon as she reached her front door, her keen eyes spotted a familiar figure standing quietly there.
The figure was tall and straight, like an ancient pine tree, with a vigorous and powerful posture, yet also a hint of restraint, his body slightly tense, as if ready to meet some challenge at any moment.
Li Chengjun glanced around every now and then, his eyes filled with anxiety and anticipation. His gaze swept back and forth across the street, as if he were waiting for a crucial moment, or as if he were hoping for the person who would make his heart race to appear. Each glance was filled with eagerness.
"Xia Wan!" Li Chengjun's voice rang out instantly, filled with barely suppressed joy. His voice was like the cheer of a traveler who had finally found a spring after a long and arduous journey through a dry desert, parched and almost in despair. It was full of excitement and joy, and the excitement in his voice was almost overflowing.
He strode forward eagerly, his face beaming with a radiant smile, a smile as intense and dazzling as the midday sun in summer, seemingly capable of dispelling all the gloom in the world and brightening everything around him.
Xia Wan looked up, and when her gaze fell on Li Chengjun, she was slightly taken aback. A hint of surprise flashed in her eyes, as if she was somewhat taken aback by his sudden appearance.
Countless thoughts flashed through her mind in an instant, trying to guess why he had come.
But she quickly composed herself, displaying her usual elegance and composure. She then gave a polite and gentle smile and said softly, "Brother Jun, what brings you here?"
Her voice was clear and melodious, like a babbling brook in the mountains, pure and lively, with every note carrying a hint of sweetness. Her voice seemed to have a magical power that could instantly calm people down.
Li Chengjun scratched his head shyly, a faint blush spreading from his ears to his cheeks. He said somewhat embarrassedly, "I heard your brother went back to Beijing, so I thought I'd come and see you. I also wanted to treat you to a meal."
A glimmer of expectation flickered in his eyes, like a star twinkling in the night sky, bright and dazzling, yet tinged with a hint of nervousness. That nervousness made his gaze wander, quickly shifting between Xia Wan's face, his fingers unconsciously clutching the hem of his clothes, as if it were his only support at that moment, giving him a sense of security.
