Xia Wan dragged her somewhat heavy steps into the house. The dim yellow light inside flickered like a candle in the wind, and the light and shadow danced and swayed on the walls, reflecting on the slightly tired but concerned faces of Xia Jianguo and Xia Tao.
After she stopped, she took a deep breath, as if trying to calm the turmoil in her heart.
Then, in a calm voice, she recounted to them all the details of her conversations with her third uncle, Xia Jiandang, outside, including asking Xia Jiandang to keep an eye on and monitor the Xia family and Qiao Qiao, without reservation.
"Although they haven't come out yet, we'll be away for quite a while, so we shouldn't let those people cause us any trouble."
Hearing this, Xia Tao frowned and said with a suspicious look, "Is this Xia Jiandang reliable or not? If it weren't for him last time, our father would have almost suffered! I really don't understand why you trusted him so easily, little sister!"
After saying that, he shook his head helplessly, indicating that he did not understand it at all.
At this moment, Xia Jianguo was sitting quietly on that old wooden chair, listening attentively to his daughter's story.
When he heard all this, a barely perceptible look of surprise flashed in his eyes, but he quickly concealed it.
After a moment of silence, he said, "Xiao Wan's approach to this matter is correct. If Xia Jiandang is truly repentant, he will definitely do his best to help us keep an eye on those people; but if he is not genuinely repentant, then there is actually no real loss for us. So let's give him a try."
After saying this, Xia Jianguo sighed softly, his face revealing a sense of open-mindedness and composure that comes with having experienced many hardships.
Anyway, his precious daughter had already arranged for someone to keep an eye on things for her. It just so happens that Xia Jiandang is from the Huaihua Brigade, so it would be more convenient for him to keep an eye on those guys than for others!
However, at this moment, they didn't actually need to think too much, because those people were all currently locked up in the police station and couldn't cause any trouble for the time being.
In that instant, the entire room fell into a brief silence. All around was quiet except for the old oil lamp, whose flame would occasionally flicker and emit a soft hissing sound.
After a short while, Xia Jianguo, who had been silent all along, finally slowly raised his head and nodded slightly.
His voice was slightly hoarse, but it revealed an undisguised sense of relief: "Xiao Wan, you did the right thing this time. You know, our family's situation is really too complicated right now, so we have to be extra careful in everything we do!"
Seeing this, Xia Tao, who was standing to the side, took two steps forward, came to Xia Wan's side, reached out and gently patted her shoulder, and said with a faint smile:
"I have to admit, Xiao Wan, you do think things through much more thoroughly than I do. Just now, I was so caught up in my own anger and didn't think about all these aspects at all."
Xia Wan felt a little embarrassed by her father and brother's approval, her cheeks flushing slightly. She scratched her head and said, "I was just thinking that we should live a peaceful life in the future and be wary of them. This time, Xia Jiandang walked right into our door, which is good for him to keep an eye on things. Especially Qiao Qiao, I always feel that she won't let things go when she comes back."
This also reveals Xia Jiandang's true thoughts: whether he has some kind of conspiracy or if he really intends to reform himself because of what happened last time!
Xia Jianguo's eyes grew serious. He recalled Qiao Qiao's past actions and was filled with worry: "Qiao Qiao is a deep thinker. I wonder if she has learned her lesson after being taken away by the police this time. Even if she is released in the future, we should keep our distance from her."
That little girl is no pushover!
Putting everything else aside, just from what my daughter mentioned before, Qiao Qiao is a reborn person. Who knows how many strange and unusual thoughts and plans she has hidden in her heart!
Therefore, it's best for his family to keep their distance from her to avoid unnecessary trouble.
At this moment, Xia Tao frowned deeply, his hands unconsciously clenched into fists, and his knuckles turned slightly white from excessive force.
"Dad, please don't worry. If it weren't for her, our family wouldn't be in this state. But don't fret, starting today, I will work even harder and do everything I can to support this family!"
Thinking of this, Xia Tao couldn't help but sigh inwardly. Look at Xiao Wan, she's so much more capable than him. Compared to her, he, as her older brother, is such a failure, not even as good as his sister!
Xia Jianguo, standing to the side, also looked worried. After a deep sigh, he gently rubbed his temples with his slightly tired hands: "Alright, it's getting late. Go to sleep."
Don't forget, we have to catch the train very early tomorrow morning. It's a pity my legs aren't very mobile; I'm afraid it'll be quite a hassle in the crowded train station."
He definitely couldn't bring his wheelchair into the car, but luckily my son was thoughtful enough to find me a pair of crutches a while ago, which will at least help in an emergency.
Xia Wan returned to her room and went through all the information she knew to make sure she hadn't missed anything before lying down to rest.
Xia Wan responded and returned to her room, where she lay on the somewhat hard bed, lost in thought.
