At the Xu family, seeing Cheng Jiawen come back so early today, Xu's mother guessed that he might have gotten the medicine. "Jiawen, is everything settled?"
Cheng Jiawen nodded. "Yes, I've already sent it to them. I didn't show up. I just left the medicine at the door to make some noise. I left after they took it back."
"Well, that's how it should be. I hope this can help them a little." Mother Xu sighed and said with a little sadness.
Heroes shouldn't be treated like this, but this is the way the times are. There's nothing they can do. They can only help up to this point. They can't do much more.
"Well, then you don't have to go to work today?" Mother Xu couldn't help but ask when she saw Cheng Jiawen was still at home.
Cheng Jiawen shook his head and said, "I'm not going today. Let's take a day off."
"That's good. I've been tired these days. I need to rest for a while."
Suddenly, Cheng Jiawen remembered that there was some pig offal in the basket. "Mom, I just got some pig offal from Fatty. What do you think we should do with it?"
Mother Xu looked at the basket full of pig offal and smiled so much that her eyes were blinded. "Oh, you brought back so much pig offal again. That's great. Well, let's make some braised food. Pig offal is more delicious when braised."
"Okay, I'll listen to you." Cheng Jiawen said with a smile.
After he finished speaking, Xu's mother wanted to take the pig offal to the kitchen to process it. Cheng Jiawen saw this and said, "Mom, let me help you."
Xu's mother blocked his hand that was about to reach for the backpack with her hand, "No need for you, no need for you, it's a rare day off today, go find some friends to play with or take a rest."
"This is too much. I'd better do it with you."
Xu's mother shook her head. "No, I'll do it slowly. I'll just use it as a way to kill time. It's slack season, and it's boring to stay at home every day."
Seeing that Xu's mother was so persistent, Cheng Jiawen had no choice but to say, "Okay, thank you for your hard work, I'll go out and take a look."
Since Xu's mother didn't need his help, he wanted to go and talk to his good brothers in the village to kill time and see if they had any problems.
Xu's mother called him, "Jia Wen, I heard that Gu Wu got married, but there was no wedding. You can give these to him as a gift."
Mother Xu took out a pig's trotter and a pig's liver from her backpack, tied them up with a rope, and handed them to Cheng Jiawen. "You got married before, thanks to their help. Now that they are married, we should also show our appreciation."
Although Gu Wu did not hold a wedding, he just got a marriage certificate and took his new wife to the village to get to know people, which was considered a ceremony. However, Cheng Jiawen was a good brother of his and he had helped out at their wedding before, so it was only right for them to bring something to congratulate him.
Cheng Jiawen took the things and nodded, "I understand, mother."
It was Xu's mother who thought more comprehensively. He almost forgot about this matter. When Gu Wu got married a few days ago, he was still working in the city, so he didn't have time to congratulate him in person.
Gu Wu is his brother in the village. Although not as close as Wang Wenlin and the others, they grew up together.
-------------------------------------
Cheng Jiawen came out of Xu's house, took his things and went straight to Gu Wu's house. As soon as he entered, he saw Gu Wu chopping wood in the yard. He stood at the door and greeted him, "Gu Wu."
Gu Wu heard the voice and looked up at Cheng Jiawen, "Fourth brother, what's wrong with you? Come in quickly."
When he heard the sound, he paused, then quickly placed the hoe by the door, clapped his hands, and walked quickly to the door. With a warm smile on his face, he shouted to Cheng Jiawen, "Fourth brother, why are you here? Come in."
After saying that, he stretched out his hand in an invitation gesture, and stepped aside to open the door, motioning Cheng Jiawen to come in.
Cheng Jiawen walked into the Gu family's house and calmly looked around. He smiled and said jokingly, "As expected, the house is much cleaner after getting married."
He used to come to Gu Wu's house often, but every time he came, his house was like a doghouse. He could smell a stench as soon as he entered the door. Now, the house is clean, and the firewood is chopped into pieces and neatly stacked together.
Gu Wu scratched his head shyly, "Hehe, I'm married now, my wife takes good care of me."
He handed the pig's trotter and liver to Gu Wu and said, "I wasn't at your wedding two days ago. This is a wedding gift for you."
Gu Wu looked at the pig's trotters and liver in Cheng Jiawen's hand, his face flushed, and he quickly waved his hands to refuse, "No, no, no, fourth brother, how can I take your things? Take them back and give them to my sister-in-law."
Cheng Jiawen stuffed the thing directly into his hand and said, "Here, you helped me so much before I got married. Now that you are getting married, how can I not show any appreciation?"
"It's just a small matter, don't worry about it. I can't accept your things."
When Cheng Jiawen heard him say this, his face immediately turned stern, and he pretended to be angry and said, "We are such good brothers. You are getting married, and I gave you some pig's trotters. Why don't you accept them? Do you look down on me?"
Gu Wu waved his hands in panic and explained quickly, "No, no, how could I look down on you? I... I just feel that you have helped me so much, how can I accept anything from you again?"
Cheng Jiawen patted him on the shoulder and said, "Alright, we're brothers after all, just take it. Oh, and I need your help."
"What?"
"Well, I heard your wife is from Songcun, right?"
Gu Wu nodded, "Yes, my wife is from Song Village. What's wrong, Fourth Brother?"
