After leaving the police station, he walked alone to an unremarkable alley and stood at the door. He patiently observed his surroundings and only reached out to knock on the door after confirming that there was nothing unusual.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
"Squeak." The door opened from the inside, and a dark and strong man stood at the door. He observed Cheng Jiawen carefully and couldn't help but become alert in his heart, "Who are you looking for?"
He watched Cheng Jiawen patrolling on the street. He was a policeman, but their black market was tacitly approved by the higher-ups, and no one would come to check on them on weekdays. Moreover, since he came alone, it didn't look like he was investigating a case.
"I'm looking for your boss Liu. Tell him that Cheng Si is looking for him." Cheng Jiawen said lightly, standing at the door.
The man looked Cheng Jiawen up and down and saw that he looked calm and relaxed. He might really know their boss, and he might be very familiar with him.
Thinking of this, he nodded slightly, "Go in and wait, our boss is inside."
"good."
The man opened the door, stepped aside, and Cheng Jiawen followed him into the house.
This is a small courtyard house with houses on all four sides and a yard in the middle. Cheng Jiawen stood in the yard waiting for the man to call people.
He silently surveyed the surroundings and said, "Tsk, Third Brother is doing pretty well. He's doing pretty well, even becoming a black market boss."
"Thump thump thump~" A burst of hurried footsteps was heard. Cheng Jiawen looked over and saw that behind the man was a gentle, fair-skinned man wearing glasses and with a scholarly air.
When Cheng Jiawen saw him, a faint smile appeared on his face unconsciously, "Third brother, you're back."
Liu Zhengjie pushed his glasses, a smile flashing in his eyes, "Well, I'm back, Lao Si, let me introduce you, this is Daniu, if I'm not around in the future, you can go directly to him."
Cheng Jiawen greeted Daniu with a smile, "Hello, Cheng Jiawen."
"Big Bull."
After the two introduced themselves to each other, Da Niu saw how familiar Cheng Jiawen was with his boss and thought they must be good friends. It seemed he had to pay more attention to him in the future.
He smiled and said, "Boss, Jiawen, you guys chat. I'll go to the back to check out the goods first." He left tactfully, leaving the two of them space to talk.
After Daniu left, Liu Zhengjie stopped pretending and rolled his eyes at Cheng Jiawen. "Why did you come to see me?"
Cheng Jiawen said directly without hesitation, "I'm asking you for food. Judging from the weather, it may not be possible to plant in spring, so it's better to prepare in advance."
Speaking of this, Liu Zhengjie's smile faded. He nodded and said, "Yes, with this year's weather, the price of our grain is half as high as in previous years. It seems that everyone is consciously storing grain."
He thought for a moment and said, "How about this? Come and get a little every day after get off work. Don't take too much at once, or it'll attract attention. Although there hasn't been a large-scale food shortage yet, the fact is that we've harvested less food these days, and there are many people buying food."
"good."
"Follow me." Liu Zhengjie led Cheng Jiawen into the east room. When they opened the door, they found it was filled with grain. Liu Zhengjie didn't shy away from him and directly took out a bag of grain from the innermost part and handed it to Cheng Jiawen. "Here, some rice we just harvested."
Cheng Jiawen took the food and tilted his head towards him, "Okay, thanks, Third Brother."
"Get lost, call me Third Brother, and I'll give you food."
"roll."
Two grown men were arguing with each other like elementary school students.
Cheng Jiawen looked up at the dark sky and said, "Okay, it's getting late. I have to go pick up my wife from get off work."
"You kid, you didn't even tell us that you were married. When are you going to bring your sister-in-law out so we can have dinner together?" Liu Zhengjie said to Cheng Jiawen unhappily.
Cheng Jiawen scratched his head. "Since you three weren't here at the time, I didn't invite you. Let's wait for the eldest brother to come back. Then I'll bring her out and we can have dinner together."
"Okay." Liu Zhengjie nodded. "The boss should be transferred back here soon. We can get together more often then."
After graduating from high school, the eldest son followed his family's arrangements and joined the army, the second son became a doctor, he did business on the black market, and the fourth son went home.
There are four people in their dormitory, and each of them has his or her own way of living.
At that time, the eldest brother wanted to help Cheng Jiawen find a job in the city, but Cheng Jiawen himself refused. Firstly, it was because of family reasons, and secondly, a large number of students were graduating from high schools at that time, and it was difficult to find a job. He also didn't want to trouble the eldest brother.
Seeing that Cheng Jiawen was so determined, they did not try to persuade him much. In their hearts, Cheng Jiawen was a capable man, and they believed that he could make a name for himself.
Now it has been proven that he has created a new world of his own by relying on himself.
"Let's go!" Cheng Jiawen said as he picked up the heavy bag of grain and waved goodbye to Liu Zhengjie.
He got on his somewhat worn bicycle, pedaled, and the wheels began to turn slowly.
With the creaking of chains, Cheng Jiawen gradually retreated. Liu Zhengjie couldn't help but feel a little amused as he watched his receding figure. He shook his head, seemingly helpless at Cheng Jiawen's actions, but a hint of warmth flashed in his eyes.
Liu Zhengjie turned around and slowly walked back into the house.
-------------------------------------
On a winter evening, the sky gradually darkened. The setting sun's afterglow filtered through thin clouds, casting a faint warmth across the landscape. As the sun sank, the sky's color gradually shifted from orange to deep red, then slowly to a dark purple. A chill wind howled, shaking the branches and rustling the leaves.
