Chapter 139 Finding Clues

Hearing this, the old lady looked at the door abruptly, her face a little nervous. "Hey, young man, don't say that. A few days ago, several police officers came to investigate. I heard this from others, and within two days, the police came to our door."

"Hmm? So, Auntie, you've heard about this too?" Jiang Ziwen asked, feigning curiosity. "Well, it's alright. Let's just talk about it here, just some gossip. It's boring."

After hearing what he said, the old lady's originally tense nerves finally relaxed, and the wariness in her eyes gradually dissipated.

Then, the aunt naturally joined in their conversation and started communicating along the topic they were discussing.

Cheng Jiawen and Xiaofan listened silently, while Jiang Ziwen took the initiative to encourage the old lady to speak more. Their conversation flowed naturally, like the warmth of old friends. As the topic deepened, time slipped by unnoticed.

Finally, Jiang Ziwen raised his wrist, glanced at his watch, and said softly, "Oh, Auntie, time flies! My aunt is probably about to get off work. In that case, let's go first so as not to delay her from going home to rest. Don't tire yourself out too much, take care of yourself!"

His tone was sincere and warm, making people feel his care and respect for the old lady. After he finished speaking, he smiled and nodded to the old lady as a farewell.

The old lady gulped down a big gulp of water and said with a smile, "Okay, come back next time and I'll have a good chat with you guys."

She was very satisfied today. She had been chatting about gossip for such a long time, which was really enjoyable and comfortable.

As Cheng Jiawen and the others walked out of the old lady's house, Jiang Ziwen's smile immediately fell and heaved a sigh of relief. "Huh, this old lady is too talkative. She talked for two hours without stopping."

Cheng Jiawen smiled faintly, "It's okay, at least we have gained something."

"Huh? What did you gain? I couldn't understand anything. All she said were some trivial matters of gossips. Are there any clues?" Jiang Ziwen scratched his head and looked at Cheng Jiawen and Police Officer Xiaofan with some confusion.

Cheng Jiawen and Xiaofan exchanged a glance. Xiaofan looked at Jiang Ziwen's clear eyes and said helplessly, "Didn't you hear what she said? She didn't hear about this first from Liang Cuihua, but from that widow Li at the back door."

Hearing this, Jiang Ziwen suddenly realized, "So, does that mean we might have missed the clue about Widow Li?"

"Yes, we'll go check on Widow Li this afternoon." Cheng Jiawen said calmly, "But we need to go back to the police station and change clothes first. It's not easy to go to her house in casual clothes."

"Why?"

Cheng Jiawen rolled his eyes in annoyance. "A widow's door is always full of gossip. What will the neighbors think if three grown men like us go to a widow's house in casual clothes? Besides, we have to invite your aunt along to avoid some rumors."

"Oh, you think it's comprehensive. Well, let's go find my aunt first."

After saying that, Jiang Ziwen led the way in front, and Officer Cheng Jiawen and Officer Xiao Fan followed behind, looking around the compound as they walked.

Jiang Ziwen and the other two went up to find her aunt and told her about this matter, then left without staying for dinner.

After all, food is hard to come by now, and the granary was robbed, so they couldn't stay for dinner. So they just agreed with Aunt Jiang to come see her again this afternoon.

-------------------------------------

After they had their meal in the police station cafeteria, they immediately changed their clothes and prepared to set off again for the steel plant staff quarters.

When Aunt Jiang saw the group coming, she immediately went to greet them and said, "You're here. Come on, I'll take you to find Widow Li."

"Okay, thank you for your hard work, auntie."

The group walked quickly towards Widow Li's house. After about ten minutes, they finally stopped in a small bungalow.

“Knock knock knock~” Aunt Jiang reached out and knocked on the door. After waiting for a while, there was still no response. “He must be taking a nap. I’ll knock again.”

She knocked on the door again with increased force, "bang bang bang~"

The noise woke up the neighbors next door, and they all came out to see what was happening. They saw Director Liu (Jiang Ziwen's aunt) and three policemen knocking on Widow Li's door.

Everyone was talking about it, wondering what Widow Li had done wrong that the police came to her house.

Seeing that no one opened the door for such a long time, Cheng Jiawen signaled Aunt Jiang to move aside. He kicked the door and it was finally opened.

Walking into the yard, he saw things neatly arranged. Cheng Jiawen walked over and touched the kettle in the kitchen and found it was ice cold, which proved that the owner of the house had not been at home for at least half a day.

They walked into the room and found that everything in the room was gone. There was not a single piece of clothing in the closet, and the things on the table had also been taken away.

Cheng Jiawen's heart sank, "I came too late, and the person ran away."

He immediately decided, "Ziwen, you stay here and watch. Xiaofan and I will go back to the station to look for her, and then try our luck at the station to see if we can find her. Director Liu, do you have a photo of Widow Li?"

Director Liu thought for a moment and said, "Yes, there's a group photo at the factory. I'll get it for you."

"Let's go get it with you."

"good."

"Ziwen, I leave this to you."

Jiang Ziwen nodded and said, "Okay, you guys go ahead, I'll watch here."

"good."

Cheng Jiawen and the others didn't waste any more time. They quickly followed Director Liu to his home to get the photos, and then immediately rushed back to the bureau to report the matter.
