Xu Qianjiao looked at the crumpled money and bills in front of her, opened her mouth, and didn't know what to say. Seeing her like this, Xu's mother knew that she was thinking wrongly.
She reached out and poked Xu Qianjiao's head. "Just take these money and bills. I'm telling you, you can't just spend a man's money blindly. You have to give him some benefits occasionally. Only then will she be devoted to you, understand?"
Xu Qianjiao was stunned by what she said, "You still have to do this."
Mother Xu glanced at her with a look of dismay. This silly girl, for Cheng Jiawen to fancy her, he must be blind. "Okay, tomorrow if you see anything suitable for the house, just buy it. If you have cloth, buy more, and also wool and other warm things."
She sighed and said with a little worry in her heart, "It's much colder this year than in previous years. It's too hard to endure if I don't dress warmly."
"I know, Mom. I'll see about the purchase." Xu Qianjiao promised her mother seriously.
Seeing her like this, Xu's mother was still a little worried, but there was nothing she could do. She could only wait until Cheng Jiawen came to pick her up tomorrow and tell Cheng Jiawen about it.
-------------------------------------
A winter morning is a beautiful picture.
The cold wind howled through every corner of the city, completely dispelling the remnants of the darkness.
In the sky, the moon had not yet set, but the morning light had already impatiently peeked over the horizon. For a moment, it seemed as if only a faint glimmer of light remained between heaven and earth, like a mother's gentle hand, gently caressing the earth.
Cheng Jiawen arrived at Xu's house early. Xu Qianjiao hurried out of the room with her hair disheveled. Seeing Cheng Jiawen standing in the yard, she immediately said anxiously, "You're here. Wait for me for a moment. It will be ready soon."
After saying that, she hurried back to her room to tie her hair. Cheng Jiawen gently reminded her from behind, "Don't run. Go slowly. Don't rush."
Mother Xu came out of the room and saw Xu Qianjiao's hurried look. She said unhappily, "I told her to get up a long time ago, but she refused to get up. Now you're getting anxious. I'm really impressed."
Father Xu laughed at the side and said, "It's not the first day you've known your daughter. She's been like this since she was a child, she likes to stay in bed."
Mother Xu looked at Cheng Jiawen with a smile, went back to the kitchen, took out two meat buns and handed them to Cheng Jiawen, "Jiawen, come, have a bun."
"Aunt, no, you're welcome." Cheng Jiawen felt embarrassed to take the buns. He always felt that he was eating for free at Xu's house. Every time he brought something to Xu's house, he was eating a free meal before leaving.
Xu's mother glared at him in mock anger and said, "You're being polite to your aunt again. Take it."
Seeing Xu's mother like this, Cheng Jiawen had no choice but to take the buns.
The steamed buns are fresh from the oven, steaming hot and fragrant. The white dough is thin, elastic, and slightly transparent, allowing you to vaguely see the rich filling inside.
He took a bite and the first thing he tasted was the softness of the dough and the aroma of wheat. As he chewed, the gravy gradually flowed out and merged with the dough, forming a rich flavor.
The gravy inside is tender and the sauerkraut is refreshing. The combination of the two flavors creates a unique taste that is unforgettable.
"I'm fine." Xu Qianjiao came out of the room. Cheng Jiawen looked up and saw that the girl in front of him had a fluffy single braid and was wearing an old cotton-padded jacket, but he still couldn't resist her good looks.
He swallowed silently, cleared his throat and said, "Auntie made some buns. Let's eat them first before we leave."
"good."
Xu Qianjiao went into the kitchen, took a bun for herself, and stood in the yard, eating it slowly.
"Jiawen, I'll trouble you to take care of Jiaojiao today." Mother Xu made a few buns and handed them to Cheng Jiawen, "Here, take these buns and eat them on the way."
Cheng Jiawen tried to evade the question. Judging from the look of Xu's mother, she wouldn't give all the buns to the two of them. "Aunt, no need. You can keep them and eat them when we get to the provincial capital. I've prepared everything."
Seeing that he seemed to have everything planned out, Xu's mother didn't force him to eat anymore. She took the buns back and said lovingly, "Okay, then you guys be careful and come back soon."
"Okay, we will."
Cheng Jiawen and Xu Qianjiao carried their backpacks, waved to Xu's father and mother, and went out.
-------------------------------------
It's still early and the weather is cold, so there are not many people on the streets.
They walked out of the village quickly and didn't meet anyone along the way. Halfway, Cheng Jiawen saw an ox cart passing by, stretched out his hand to stop it, gave the driver two cents, and asked him to give them a ride.
The two of them sat on the ox cart and didn't meet any acquaintances along the way. There were only a few pedestrians hurrying on their way. Their breath turned into white mist in the cold air and drifted in the wind.
The trees along the road had long since shed their summer attire, leaving only a few mottled leaves, as if telling of their past glory. The trees that still stood tall, however, swayed their branches in the cold wind, as if battling it out.
The mountains in the distance are shrouded in a thin layer of mist, appearing and disappearing, as if you are in a fairyland.
"Oh~ we're here." The driver stopped the ox cart and turned to say to the two of them.
Cheng Jiawen helped Xu Qianjiao off the ox cart, took out two dimes from his pocket and stuffed them into the driver's hand, "Thanks, uncle."
The driver took the two dimes, raised his lips, and then said enthusiastically: "I will return from here at 7 o'clock tonight. If you want to take my car, you can wait for me here."
