Chapter 55 Returning Home from the City

Cheng Jiawen nodded with a puzzled look on his face. "Yeah, can't you see? It's so obvious."

Xu Qianjiao twitched her lips and said a little embarrassedly: "I can see it, but can I really ride it?"

"Of course it can. It's very strong. If you don't believe me, I'll take you back later and you'll see."

The old man sitting at the door was stunned when he saw Cheng Jiawen go in and search for a long time, then come out pushing a bicycle. How could this be possible? He clearly remembered that the bicycles inside were smashed to pieces and there was no possibility of repairing them. Otherwise, they would not have been left here.

This...he fixed it already? This is amazing...

Cheng Jiawen pushed his bicycle up to the old man and asked, "Uncle, how much is this?"

The old man touched his chin, thought for a long time, and said with embarrassment: "Wen boy, you have a lot of rare materials. This...this can't be charged at the usual price."

Cheng Jiawen smiled slightly, "Uncle, please be flexible and give me a discount."

"Well, I can be flexible. How about this? Next time you help me assemble one, and you can take it for 20 yuan. Is that okay?" When the old man heard him say this, he immediately stated his conditions.

Cheng Jiawen nodded and said, "Okay, then you should keep some of the originals and I will come over to help you install them next time."

"Okay."

At this time, Xu Qianjiao also came over. The old man glanced at the books in her hands and asked casually, "Are these all books that comply with the policy? Are there any banned books?"

Xu Qianjiao quickly held up the books and flipped them open one by one in front of the old man for him to see. "No, they are just some novels and high school books."

The old man didn't even look at it and said, "Okay, take it."

"How much is this?" Xu Qianjiao put the book into Cheng Jiawen's backpack and turned to ask the old man.

The old man waved his hand and said, "Just give me five cents, just a token of your appreciation."

Cheng Jiawen agreed to help him assemble a bicycle, and the labor fee was quite high. Forget about just a few books. It doesn't matter if he charges less. Anyway, the things are not his, and the money earned is not his.

Xu Qianjiao took out five cents from her pocket and handed it to the old man, smiling gently and thanking him: "Thank you, uncle."

"You're welcome~" the old man said lightly, then he sat back in his original seat and continued reading the newspaper.

After the two of them came out of the scrap yard, Cheng Jiawen pushed the cart while Xu Qianjiao walked beside him. "Where are we going now?"

"Is there anywhere else you want to go?" Cheng Jiawen looked at Xu Qianjiao and asked silently.

Xu Qianjiao shook her head. "No, there's nowhere I want to go."

"Okay, let's go home then."

Cheng Jiawen stepped into the car and said, "Come on, get in the car, let's go home."

Xu Qianjiao watched him ride his battered bike and couldn't help but feel a little worried. Could he really ride it? Would it fall apart halfway? And with two people riding on it, was that really possible?

Seeing Xu Qianjiao was hesitant to get in the car, Cheng Jiawen turned to look at her face. He knew what she was thinking from her expression. Cheng Jiawen comforted her softly, "Don't worry, this is really stable. It won't fall apart. Come on in."

Xu Qianjiao saw his determined face, she took a deep breath and thought, let him die, at worst he would just fall to the ground halfway.

Thinking of this, Cheng Jiawen sat on the back of the bicycle with a fearless look on his face. He smiled faintly and said, "Let's go home."

"Let's go."

Xu Qianjiao silently grabbed the clothes around Cheng Jiawen's waist, fearing that he would fall out of the car if he was not careful.

-------------------------------------

On a winter evening, the sky gradually darkened. The cold wind howled, making people's faces hurt. The street lamps emitted a dim light, adding a touch of warmth to this cold winter day.

Cheng Jiawen and Xu Qianjiao rode their bicycles slowly on their way home. They were wrapped in thick cotton coats, gloves, and hats, but they could still feel the biting cold.

They were riding and chatting when suddenly the bike passed a big pothole and jolted. Xu Qianjiao was startled and exclaimed, "Ah."

Then he subconsciously hugged Cheng Jiawen's waist tightly. Cheng Jiawen felt the strength on his waist, curled the corners of his mouth, and said softly: "It's okay, there was just a pit just now. I won't fall you in, don't worry."

Xu Qianjiao loosened one hand, patted her chest, and said in fear: "Huh, I was scared to death, I almost fell down."

"If you're afraid of falling, just hold on to me. I'll ride slowly, don't be afraid." Cheng Jiawen comforted softly.

"good."

Xu Qianjiao hugged Cheng Jiawen's waist tightly. The two chatted while riding their bikes. Their laughter echoed in the cold air, as if this winter night was no longer so quiet and cold.

As time went by, the direction of their homes got closer and closer. They quickened their pace, hoping to return to their warm home as soon as possible.

After a while, the bicycle stopped in front of Xu's house. Xu Qianjiao got off the bicycle and Cheng Jiawen pushed the bicycle into Xu's yard. When Xu's father and mother saw the bicycle, they immediately surrounded it in surprise and looked at the strange-looking bicycle in front of them carefully.

Mother Xu glanced at Cheng Jiawen and asked in confusion, "Jiawen, what is this bicycle?"

Cheng Jiawen smiled faintly, "This is our bicycle, we just bought it."

"Ours?" Xu's mother looked at Cheng Jiawen in surprise. "Is it really ours? You went to the city today and bought a bicycle? How much did it cost?"

Xu's mother was very happy, but she also felt a little sorry for the money. The bicycles cost at least a few hundred yuan, and there was also a ticket. However, these two looked old, so they should cost more than that, probably only 100 yuan at most.
