Chapter 72 Little Mahua

After staying at Xu's house until the afternoon, the two went back home with a large basket of food in their hands. When the villagers saw the two going back to their parents' home, taking a basket of things and bringing another basket of things back, they couldn't help but feel jealous.

"How can Cheng Jiawen be so lucky? He married a beautiful woman, and her family dotes on her so much that they brought her so many gifts back to her husband's house."

The two of them walked and stopped along the way, talked and laughed, looked at the winter scenery, and blew away the stuffiness that had just been created in the house because the charcoal fire was burning too strongly.

Back at the Cheng family's house, Mrs. Cheng watched as the two men returned with a basket. She walked over, glanced at the tightly covered basket, and asked casually, "Fourth Uncle, Jiaojiao, you're back so soon? What delicious food did you bring?"

Cheng Jiawen pursed his lips slightly, a faint smile appearing on the corner of his mouth. "Nothing, just some snacks that my mother-in-law prepared specially for Jiaojiao."

"Uh, ha, so that's how it is. Mother-in-law really loves Jiaojiao." Sister-in-law Cheng Cheng understood the meaning of Cheng Jiawen's words and felt a little embarrassed. She laughed it off and said, "Okay, then you two go back and rest. I'm going to cook."

After she finished speaking, she went straight to the kitchen, away from this somewhat awkward place.

God knows, she really just wanted to know what Xu's mother had given her, even though she wanted to see if she could get some of it.

But after he said that, how could I continue? It was too embarrassing. If I really opened my mouth, I would really become a relative who wanted to extort money from me.

His words immediately shut me down, preventing me from saying anything further. Although I wanted to take advantage of him, I still had to save face.

Xu Qianjiao and Cheng Jiawen looked at each other, and with a 'puff' sound, they both burst out laughing. Mrs. Cheng's expression just now was so funny. She was obviously very curious, but pretended to be nonchalant. She obviously wanted it, but she also wanted to save face.

But his eyes couldn't help but always look at the basket, as if he wanted to see what was inside through the thin cloth on the basket. He was about to move, but he didn't dare to say a word.

The two returned to the room, and Cheng Jiawen took out the things in the basket, including spicy rabbit meat, chicken stewed with mushrooms, some small twisted dough sticks and fried dough sticks. All the things made by Xu's mother were stuffed into their baskets by Xu's mother and asked them to take them back.

They looked at the basket full of things with a mixture of laughter and tears, "How pitiful are the parents in the world. They are just worried that the two of them will have nothing to eat when they return to the Cheng family, so they stuffed everything they could eat into their home for them."

"Wife, while we're off-season now, I'll go find my father-in-law and then some brothers. With more people, we can quickly build the house and move in with my father-in-law and mother-in-law." Cheng Jiawen said as he sorted the things in the basket.

Xu Qianjiao stood by the closet and changed her coat. She dusted it off and was about to hang it up. When she heard this, she turned around and looked at Cheng Jiawen, "Really? Great! We can celebrate the New Year together."

"Okay, that's it. Let's sell this house to Big Brother for 20 yuan. We probably won't be living here again anyway."

Xu Qianjiao nodded when she heard what he said, "Well, I have no objection. You decide."

When Cheng Jiawen heard that she agreed, he took a few small twists of dough and walked towards Brother Cheng's room.

"Knock knock knock~Is big brother here? I'm the fourth brother." Cheng Jiawen stood at the door of Big Brother Cheng and knocked gently.

Brother Cheng heard the noise inside, struggled to get up, put on his clothes and went to open the door, "Fourth Brother, what's wrong?"

Cheng Jiawen looked at Brother Cheng suspiciously, then looked up at the sky. "Sleeping in the afternoon? That's strange."

Thinking of this, I couldn't help asking, "Brother, why are you still sleeping at this time?"

Brother Cheng felt a little embarrassed when he heard this. Why was he still sleeping? Could he say that he was too bored during the slack season, so he played with his wife until very late last night and went to bed only at dawn?

He touched his nose and said somewhat unwillingly, "Uh, hahaha, I accidentally overslept during my nap. Hahaha, it's so boring. I don't know what to do if I don't sleep."

Cheng Jiawen looked at him doubtfully, a little bit unconvinced in his heart, but he didn't say much and went straight to the point, "Oh, so, brother, I've discussed it with Jiaojiao. I'll sell you the room for 20 yuan, and we'll move out before the New Year."

"Really? That's great." Brother Cheng grinned and excitedly patted his shoulder, "Good brother."

"Okay, I'm done talking to you. I'm going to go out and find some people to help build the house. I'm leaving now." He turned around and was about to leave, but suddenly remembered that he was holding something, so he put it back and stuffed the small fried dough twist into Brother Cheng's hand. "This is made by my mother-in-law. I'm giving it to you and your sister-in-law to try."

After saying that, he hurried out.

-------------------------------------

On a winter night, all is silent. Outside, the cold north wind howls, as if threatening to tear the stillness apart. Snowflakes drift down, leaving the world a pristine white, like a fairytale world clad in silver.

Moonlight shone like water, reflecting a faint silver light on the snow. The distant mountains appeared particularly solemn in the night, like sleeping giants. Icicles hung from the branches of the trees, glistening and clear, swaying gently in the wind, making a crisp sound.

The ancient plum tree at the entrance stood proudly, its blossoms blooming in the bitter cold, emitting bursts of fragrance. Its delicate flowers danced like flames in the snowy night, bringing a touch of warmth and vitality to this cold world.

In the room, Cheng Jiawen was lying on the bed, and Xu Qianjiao was leaning against him reading a novel. "Wife, what do you think, should we build a red brick house or a mud house?"

When Xu Qianjiao heard this, she immediately put down the book and said, "Of course it's a red brick house. It's clean and solid. If nothing unexpected happens, we can live in this house for at least several more years."

"Huh? A few years? What do you mean? Where else do you want to move to?" Cheng Jiawen looked at Xu Qianjiao with some confusion after hearing her words. "Is my wife stupid? This house is built so that we can live in it for at least ten years, or even a lifetime."

"Ahem, ahem~" Xu Qianjiao was frightened by his words and replied with a guilty conscience, "Oh, I found a job in the county town, so I'll see if I can move to the city when the time comes."

"Silly, how can it be that easy? The living space in the city is so small and it's so hard to find a house. With your salary, you can't even afford to buy a toilet." Cheng Jiawen shook his head helplessly. So this is what she meant. She wanted to live in the city, but how could it be so easy to get into the city?

Seeing that he believed her, Xu Qianjiao patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief. "I was so scared. I thought I was going to be exposed. I almost let it slip that there might be reform and opening up in a few years."
