Chapter 90 Brother Xu is Back

Cheng Jiawen and Xu Qianjiao looked at each other, put on a polite smile, took the stool from Cheng Zhaodi, and sat down in the yard. Neither of them had any intention of going to the kitchen to help.

Nonsense, I brought so many dishes, do I have to work on my own initiative? Besides, the two of them are not hardworking people, so the dishes they brought are considered wages.

Not to mention that Cheng's mother didn't ask the two of them to work, even if she did, they probably wouldn't do it.

Mrs. Cheng came out of the kitchen and saw Cheng Jiawen and his wife sitting in the yard. She went over and greeted them with a smile, "Fourth Uncle, Jiaojiao is here."

"Sister-in-law." The two turned around and greeted Sister-in-law Cheng with a smile.

They have a good relationship with Brother Cheng and Sister-in-law Cheng, probably because there is no conflict of interest, so the two families can talk to each other and get along peacefully.

When Cheng Erge came out of the room and saw Mother Cheng about to move a table from the room, he quickly ran over and called out to her, "Mom, we can move the table. You should take a break. It's so heavy, what if you get hurt?"

He took the table from Mother Cheng, carried it, and walked towards the yard. Seeing Cheng Jiawen, Xu Qianjiao, and his sister-in-law chatting in the yard, he frowned and said in a somewhat accusing tone, "So you are all in the yard. Why don't you help Mother move the table? The table is so heavy. What if she gets hurt while moving it?"

Several people were a little confused by the sudden condemnation of Second Brother Cheng. "They don't have eyes behind their backs, how do they know that Mother Cheng is moving a table in the room? And if she can't move it, Mother Cheng will call for help. Why does he need to pretend to be a filial son?"

Mrs. Cheng curled her lips and retorted directly: "Second brother is such a filial son. We are not as filial as you, but we also have our own things to do. We won't stick to mother all the time. Besides, if mother needs anything, she will come to call us herself. There is no need for second brother to remind us like this."

Brother Cheng was a little embarrassed by what Sister Cheng said. He also realized that his words might have offended several people. He scratched his head and explained hesitantly: "That's not what I meant, Sister Cheng."

Mrs. Cheng simply ignored his words and continued chatting with Cheng Jiawen and Xu Qianjiao. They looked at each other and continued chatting along the lines of Mrs. Cheng, both ignoring what Second Brother Cheng said.

Brother Cheng was holding onto the table, feeling a bit embarrassed. He couldn't get a word in while standing there, so he could only move the table away awkwardly.

"Don't worry about your second brother. It's New Year's Day and he's getting beaten up. It's really bad luck." When Mrs. Cheng saw second brother Cheng leaving, she rolled her eyes at his back and complained in a low voice.

Cheng Jiawen and Xu Qianjiao exchanged a glance. "Well, Second Brother didn't mean that. Sister-in-law is very generous, so let's not bother with him."

Brother Cheng is a good person in terms of character. He is honest, capable and trustworthy. However, he is not very popular in the village or at home. This is because he is not very good at being a human being and speaking.

Just like what happened just now, he could have told us in a more relaxed tone or in a different way, but he insisted on using this condemning tone, making everyone unhappy and he himself was disliked by others.

"Sister-in-law, have you brought back the eggs?" Second Sister-in-law Cheng poked her head out of the kitchen and saw that Sister-in-law Cheng had been chatting with Cheng Jiawen and Xu Qianjiao and had not returned to the kitchen to work for a long time. She reminded her calmly.

Mrs. Cheng rolled her eyes and shouted back towards the kitchen, "Got it, I'll be right there."

She knew what Cheng Ersao was thinking with her toes. Wasn't she just unhappy because she saw her chatting while she worked in the kitchen? Forget it, it was New Year's Day, and she didn't want to argue with her.

"Fourth Uncle, Jiaojiao, you wait here for a while, we'll have dinner soon." After talking to Cheng Jiawen and Xu Qianjiao, Mrs. Cheng walked straight to the chicken coop, picked up two eggs and went back to the kitchen.

Mrs. Cheng Dasao and Mrs. Cheng Ersao were busy in the kitchen, while everyone else was sitting outside in the yard chatting and waiting for dinner. For a while, the atmosphere was very happy.

"Here we are, let's prepare dinner." Mrs. Cheng came out with the dishes. The first dish served on the table was pickled Chinese cabbage, followed by seaweed egg drop soup, pickled pig intestines, and potatoes and pork head.

There was a large table filled with dishes, and everyone was looking at it with anticipation. They hadn't eaten so much meat for a long time, and it was really nice to celebrate the New Year.

There were two tables in the room, one for the adults and one for the children.

Everyone sat around the steaming hot dinner table, laughter rose one after another. No matter how everyone felt about each other at other times, today everyone spontaneously got along peacefully, presenting scenes of brothers being friendly and respectful to each other, and mothers being loving and children being filial.

The atmosphere tonight was very good. Father Cheng stroked his short beard with a smile and said, "Second brother, go get the wine I hid. Let's have a drink tonight."

It had been a long time since Old Man Cheng had felt the warmth and happiness of his family being together. He was in a good mood tonight, so he generously took out his collection of wine.

Second Brother Cheng walked into the room, took out the wine collected by Old Man Cheng, and poured a glass for everyone.

Old Man Cheng stood up and picked up his wine glass: "Come on, everyone, clink glasses and wish us good health and good harvests in the new year."

"In the new year, I wish you good health, good weather and a good harvest." Everyone stood up, smiling, and said in unison.

"Cheers~"

Outside the window, the cold wind howled, but inside the house, it was warm as spring. Everyone's face was filled with happy smiles. At this moment, the warmth of home and the deep affection of family were intertwined, making people intoxicated.
