Chapter 11 Onset of Illness

As the man walked towards her against the light, Wen Qinghe looked up at Yan Xiao. His broad and tall frame blocked the sunlight from her completely, like a mountain.

With bronze skin, a high nose bridge, beads of sweat trickling down the elegant lines of his profile, and a prominent, sexy Adam's apple bobbing up and down.

Wen Qinghe felt inexplicably envious, and her gaze shifted downwards.

Because of his labor, the man's blue jacket was soaked with sweat, the stains clinging to his strong chest, and the smooth lines of his abdominal muscles could be vaguely seen.

Because of her work, her sleeves were rolled up, revealing bulging veins on her forearms, which were thicker than her calves.

A slender waist, and further down…

Well... they say that if you have a high and straight nose, you'll also have something else that's unpredictable.

And those long legs...

In modern terms, that's practically the golden ratio.

It's something that the flashy moves from modern gyms can't compare to...

For some reason, I find this man, brimming with masculine hormones, very alluring.

But considering the limitations of the current era and her body, she gave up.

Even the most beautiful thoughts are now being boldly expressed...

………

Noticing the girl's undisguised scrutinizing gaze, Yan Xiao unconsciously tensed up and his ears turned red.

He neither dodged nor avoided it, believing that he was in a pretty good physique.

I wonder if he's the type of girl she likes.

But according to Feng Tiezhu, the girls in the village all liked the gentle and frail educated youth.

Thinking of this, his face fell. He knew that the muscles he had developed over the years couldn't be changed in a short time.

Why don't you think of a way to lose weight?

………

As the sun rose higher into the sky, a light sheen of sweat appeared on the little girl's forehead. Looking at her still excessively pale face, he stopped his chaotic thoughts and asked in a deep voice, "Are you still feeling unwell?"

Wen Qinghe answered honestly, "Not anymore."

Knowing she had to go to work that morning, she wisely took a pill beforehand.

She discovered that unless she was stimulated or moved slowly, she generally wouldn't experience that shortness of breath.

Thinking that he had just finished her work in no time,

If it were me, I think I would be in serious trouble after pulling all of these out.

Yan Xiao helped her with the work, which probably delayed his own work, and she felt a little embarrassed.

"Thank you, you've already pulled all the weeds for me, but I haven't done anything. Did all this delay your work today?"

"Don't mention it, it's my job anyway. You don't need to work anymore. I'll talk to the team leader later. I have more than enough strength to do two jobs."

Wen Qinghe was surprised.

"That won't do."

"If you feel bad about it, just help me out if I ever need your help in the future."

Wen Qinghe didn't think she could help him in any way, after all, this man could do everything.

But thinking about my health, I know that even walking to work in the fields will be difficult enough, let alone doing farm work.

She then carefully considered her words before speaking to the man:

"Then I'll pay you. How much do you think is appropriate?"

Yan Xiao frowned upon hearing this, but he realized that she probably wouldn't want his help if he didn't charge her.

"One cent a day."

Wen Qinghe was shocked by the current prices, but she remembered that when she asked Yan Xiao to make a bed and a cabinet, the labor fee was only two cents.

The money and tickets the original owner brought were only enough to hire one person to work, and even if they worked until the end of this turbulent period, it should be enough.

Without any hesitation, he replied, "Okay, then I'll go back and get you a month's salary first."

………

On the way back, Yan Xiao was going to carry her back, but Wen Qinghe felt that relationships between men and women were already sensitive in this era, and being in close contact with this man was too terrifying, so she refused righteously.

She insisted on walking back by herself, but the weather was not as cool as it was in the morning. The sun was shining brightly, and Wen Qinghe was panting heavily after only a few steps.

Seeing that she was still some distance from the educated youth settlement, she could only adjust her breathing while clutching her chest and gritting her teeth to persevere.

Unexpectedly, her knees buckled after only a few steps, and she felt dizzy. Yan Xiao was so shocked that he quickly caught her.

"Wen Zhiqing? Wen Qinghe?"

Seeing that her face was as white as paper, he ignored her earlier refusal, picked her up horizontally, and rushed towards the barefoot doctor.

After Wen Qinghe recovered from that shock, she looked in an unfamiliar direction.

"...Comrade Yan, take me back to the educated youth settlement...I have medicine."

Upon hearing this, he immediately turned around and headed towards the educated youth settlement.

Yan Xiao felt the small, soft bundle in his arms, as light as a feather, and he didn't even dare to use his strength.

When they arrived at the small room at the educated youth settlement, he placed her on the small bed. He bent down and asked, "Where's the medicine?"

"...the small white bottle in the drawer is it."

Watching the man pull open the drawer of the small cabinet he had delivered that morning.

Wen Qinghe was feeling much better now and took the medicine bottle from his hand: "Thank you, Comrade Yan. I can do it myself."

Then he took a pill from the bottle and swallowed it.

Yan Xiao examined the small bottle for a while before putting it back in the drawer.

"How long have you had this illness?"

Wen Qinghe wasn't surprised that he asked that question, after all, she had fallen ill in front of him.

"I've had it since birth. However, as long as I take my medication on time and avoid strenuous exercise, I generally don't experience any symptoms."

But she thought back to when she had only walked a few steps, why did she feel so tightness in her chest?

Does this mean the doctor said I wouldn't live past eighteen?

Yan Xiao clearly saw when he got her the medicine that there wasn't much left in the bottle.

Thinking of the old traditional Chinese medicine doctor he knew, he wondered if heart disease could be cured.
