Chapter 46 I Like You the Most

Wen Qinghe smiled and opened her arms to the man.

"Brother Yan, hug me."

The next second, I was enveloped in a refreshing scent of soapberry.

Yan Xiao carefully picked up the little girl, blanket and all, and his tense nerves finally relaxed after being worried since noon.

The man's large hand carefully protected the girl's delicate back of the head. Her hair felt incredibly smooth to the touch, carrying a faint floral scent and Wen Qinghe's unique sweet fragrance.

The little girl nestled softly against his chest.

Yan Xiao started waking the little girl up at noon; the weather was beautiful today.

He thought the little girl would sleep until noon at the latest, but by noon, there was still no movement in the room.

After knocking on the door several times without success, he carefully pushed it open.

Seeing Wen Qinghe lying quietly on the bed, he first breathed a sigh of relief.

Then I sat down by the bed and looked at the little girl's sleeping face.

As time passed, the sunlight went from being at its zenith to beginning to set in the west.

But the person on the bed still didn't move. Several times he wanted to reach out and put his hand under the girl's nose to feel her warm breath.

He held back, telling himself to wait a little longer, Qingqing was about to wake up.

As the afterglow of the setting sun shifted from orange-red to warm orange, and then gradually dimmed indoors, the little one remained peacefully asleep.

He didn't even move from his seat for the entire time he sat down.

He vaguely remembered that the little girl had been kicking off her blankets all night at the guesthouse.

He finally had no choice but to lock the person firmly in his arms before he stopped.

Seeing that the room was completely dark, he worried that the little girl would be frightened when she woke up, so he lit a kerosene lamp.

Just as he was getting restless and thinking of carrying the person to town to find Old Li, he finally saw the person on the bed fluttering her eyelashes.

At that moment, he even slowed his breathing.

He stared intently at the little figure on the bed, watching its every move.

Seeing the little girl open her eyes, which shone like stars, his tense expression eased slightly.

Now, holding the girl in his arms, he finally had the mind to think about the little girl's two long nights of sleep.

The last time this happened was exactly one month ago.

Is it a coincidence?

Even the time they woke up was the same.

perhaps,

Perhaps it really is just a coincidence...

He didn't want to think about it too much.

Thinking that the little girl hadn't eaten all day and was worried that she was hungry, he put aside the jumbled thoughts in his mind.

I'm going to the kitchen to get the food that's been keeping warm on the stove.

He helped the little girl put on her thick coat and spoke gently:

"Sweetie, wait on the bed for a while, I'll bring the food over."

But when he walked into the courtyard, he looked up and saw the bright moonlight.

A month ago, on the night he saw Old Li off.

The moonlight was just as bright and clear.

The moon is fullest on the 16th of the lunar month, and today's moon is just as big and round as that day.

Yesterday happened to be the 15th of the lunar calendar, and the day she went to sleep last month should also have been the 15th.

Thinking of this, his eyes darkened slightly.

...

The little girl was still waiting in the room, but he didn't stop and went straight to the kitchen to get the still-warm food.

When I got back, I saw that the little girl had finished washing up.

He placed the food on the table, and Wen Qinghe was surprised to see two pairs of chopsticks.

"Brother Yan, have you been waiting for me without eating?"

Yan Xiao gazed at the little girl's exquisitely beautiful face, his Adam's apple bobbing, and his thin lips parted slightly.

“I wasn’t hungry before, but now it’s perfect to eat with Qingqing.”

After saying that, he sat down and immediately served the little girl a bowl of yam and pork rib soup.

The pork ribs were stewed with yam and red dates.

It can help replenish qi and nourish the body.

These past few days have been tiring, and the little girl's mealtimes have been irregular.

I finally managed to gain some weight a while ago, but I've lost it all again these past few days.

Watching the little girl sip her soup, her fluffy hair looked like some kind of soft little animal.

His heart softened and he felt content.

As the little girl lowered her head to drink her soup, strands of her unruly hair slipped down from time to time because they were so smooth.

He put down his chopsticks and helped her gather her long, soft hair so she could drink the soup more easily.

But deep down, she made a mental note to buy the little girl the prettiest hair accessories and hair clips tomorrow.

Wen Qinghe slept for a whole day and night, and now that she's eaten and drunk her fill, she's in great spirits.

Watching the man pack the wild mushrooms and fungi he had picked from the mountain into a bamboo basket, she asked curiously.

"Brother Yan, who are these wild mushrooms and fungi for?"

Yan Xiao looked up upon hearing this.

"I'll go to town tomorrow to see if anyone will take it. Is there anything you want to eat, sweetie? I'll bring it back for you tomorrow morning."

Wen Qinghe's eyes lit up. "Brother Yan, can I go?"

She had never specifically visited the town's morning market; the only times she had gone were when she needed to catch a bus back or forth.

Thinking about all the things in the space, I haven't had a chance to sell them yet.

I don't know if I'll have a chance to look for the black market from this era tomorrow.

Yan Xiao originally planned to go out at three in the morning so that he could finish his business early and come back in time to make breakfast for the little girl.

However, if she goes, I can take her to try out the new bicycle when I come back.

With bicycles, we won't need to take an oxcart to town anymore.

Thinking of this, he spoke softly.

"If you want to go, you can't sleep in tomorrow, okay..."

Wen Qinghe immediately smiled broadly, "Yay~ Thank you, Brother Yan! I like you the most~"

Yan Xiao's ears turned red; this was the first time he had ever heard a young girl say she liked someone so directly.
