"Mommy...Mommy...Don't go..."
The girl's beautiful face on the hospital bed was pale and frail. Her brows were slightly furrowed and her lips were unconsciously murmuring.
The man's eyes were bloodshot, and he looked disheveled.
But he didn't forget to wash his hands thoroughly, and then used cotton balls soaked in the hot spring water boiled in the thermos to moisten the girl's dry and chapped lips.
It has been ten hours since the little girl came out of the delivery room this afternoon.
It would be dawn in two hours, and Yan Xiao's nerves were on edge the whole time.
From the moment the little girl came out of the operating room, adults and children were separated.
It was Yan Xiao and the doctor who suggested it. The reason was that when Yan Xiao was pushing his wife's hospital bed back to the room, the little one who came out of the operating room first urinated.
The sound of the little girl crying was so loud it gave Yan Xiao a headache, but he still covered her ears immediately while she was still asleep.
After gesturing for Lin Yingru to take the child out, he turned around and asked the doctor to arrange another room.
The original words were: "It's a creature that can't even take care of its own eating, drinking, and relieving itself; all it does is cry at the top of its lungs, which is bad for my wife's health..."
After a moment of stunned silence, the doctor was practically speechless.
So the person lying in bed is your lover, and the newborn baby is an outsider?
Didn't they do any research before this child was born into their family?
Although the doctor had some complaints, there was no shortage of beds at the moment, and it would only be a matter of two or three days, so he simply asked the nurse to arrange a ward for him.
And so, Lin Yingru and Yan Zhenyue took care of the newborn baby in the next ward.
Yan Xiao took care of his wife, while Wen's father was urged by Yan Xiao to go back and rest because he had class the next day.
At this moment, only Yan Xiao and Wen Qinghe were in the room.
The man held the little girl's hand to his lips and kissed it tenderly.
He had already changed the little girl's sweaty clothes and dried her off.
The little one didn't wake up during this time, only unconsciously murmuring "Mama"...
He called out to him several times but couldn't wake him, and he felt uneasy.
Until the fingers in his palm moved slightly, gripping his fingers tightly.
Yan Xiao reacted immediately, his eyes filled with surprise.
His eyes were fixed on the person on the bed whose eyelashes were trembling slightly.
"Qingqing...Qingqing, you're awake!"
Wen Qinghe slowly opened her eyes, and what she saw was a pure white expanse, no longer the glaring and cold operating lights.
The figure in red in the operating room seemed to be a dream she created for herself.
She instinctively clenched her fist, expecting to grasp nothing, but instead touched a warm hand.
A glint of joy flashed in her eyes, "Mom..."
As she slowly turned her head, the man's haggard face came into view.
"Ayan, where's Mom?"
Yan Xiao paused in surprise, ignoring the slight jealousy in his heart, assuming the young girl wanted to see Lin Yingru.
"Mother's surname is Yan... uh, Father is in the next room taking care of the children."
Wen Qinghe was taken aback when she heard him address her as "Mother"...
That's not it...
Undeterred, she asked, "Is my mother, who came out of the operating room with me, wearing a red dress, still here?"
Yan Xiao looked surprised, thinking the little girl was just a bit dazed, and felt a pang of heartache: "Qingqing, I didn't see anyone in red with you. Are you missing your mother? Once you've recovered, I'll take you to see your mother-in-law, okay?"
Upon hearing this, Wen Qinghe's expression suddenly darkened. It seemed that it really was a dream she had while she was in so much pain that she was not fully conscious.
But Mom's kisses and warmth felt so real.
She lowered her eyes absentmindedly, her peripheral vision unconsciously catching sight of a red object on the bedside table.
I glanced over instinctively and saw a piece of blood-red jade.
Yan Xiao followed the little girl's gaze and asked, "This is what Qingqing has been holding in her hand since she came out of the operating room. Should we put it away?"
Wen Qinghe's eyes brightened slightly, and her voice was weak but tinged with excitement: "You mean... the one I've been holding in my palm all this time?"
Yan Xiao nodded, seemingly puzzled.
A hint of joy flickered in Wen Qinghe's eyes, and she gently shook the man's large hand.
"Ayan, it's not a dream, the jade was given to you by your mother..."
"I really saw Mom! It's Mom, Ayan, it's Mom..."
Yan Xiao was stunned by her words and actions, and cautiously probed, "What my darling said, Mommy, is it your mother-in-law? Isn't she..."
Wen Qinghe's eyes were filled with affection. "Mom must be just like me and Dad. She hasn't changed at all. She's even more beautiful than when I was little..."
However, she still didn't understand why her mother only glanced at her before leaving.
Wen Qinghe glanced out the window; it was still dark. Perhaps she could ask her father…
Yan Xiao was shocked, thinking that his wife had just had a nightmare and had taken the dream seriously after waking up.
He found it amusing, took the bowl of porridge that had been kept warm on the bedside table, and carefully fed it to the little girl spoonful by spoonful, subtly guiding her to describe the specific details of her dream.
But when it comes to that red jade pendant that he had never seen in his wife's space, and what the little girl said, is it really possible for someone's appearance to remain unchanged for decades?
While he was incredulous, he also thought about the amazing features of his wife's space and the system that was always so attentive to him.
And the system's seemingly normal but actually illogical statements, and its inability to answer any questions...
Yan Xiao's heart skipped a beat. Having spent so much time with his wife, he had learned a fair share of some of her absurd stories.
A bold guess suddenly arose in my mind…
