Chapter 159 The Girl

The meal took a full hour to finish.

Jiang Anxia got up, intending to clear the dishes; however, before she could even start, Gu Yanzhu had already begun clearing them first.

"Sweetie, go and rest. I'll take care of these things," Gu Yanzhu urged the little girl to rest.

Besides, the girl doesn't need to do these things; he can do them himself.

“You must be tired too. You not only picked me up, but you also cooked for me. So you should rest. I’ll go wash up.” Jiang Anxia refused with a serious expression.

He and Gu Yanzhu are doing well in their relationship, but that doesn't mean she does nothing; that would be unfair to Gu Yanzhu.

Relationships involve two people. Gu Yanzhu felt sorry for her, but she also felt sorry for Gu Yanzhu!

"Hmm... sweetie, go and rest! Don't think too much, it's bad for your health." Gu Yanzhu could tell what the little girl was thinking just by looking at her darting eyes.

"No." Jiang Anxia still refused and snatched the bowl and chopsticks from Gu Yanzhu's hand.

Without waiting for Gu Yanzhu to react, she picked it up and left.

Gu Yanzhu looked at her empty palm, blinked blankly, and then smiled helplessly.

He then followed the little girl to the kitchen.

"By the way, Ayan, has the Jiang family shown any different behavior these past few days?" Jiang Anxia recalled the doubts she had kept hidden in her heart.

"Xiaxia." The smile on Gu Yanzhu's face vanished instantly at the mention of this.

"Hmm! What's wrong?" Seeing that Gu Yanzhu only called out once and then didn't follow up, Jiang Anxia turned her head to look at him curiously.

"The Jiang family brought back a girl, saying she's Captain Jiang's daughter," Gu Yanzhu said, pursing her lips.

Based on his recent observations, Jiang's parents doted on that girl rotten, which showed just how much they liked her.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Anxia frowned slightly.

Jiang's father had previously told her that his and Jiang's newborn daughter had died.

But now.

"Did they say it themselves?" Jiang Anxia asked, her words cryptic.

"My darling." Gu Yanzhu sighed softly and reached out to pull Jiang Anxia into his arms.

Jiang Anxia felt the warmth of his chest, blinked, and her tone carried a hint of barely perceptible grievance.

"No wonder they haven't been replying to my messages."

Jiang Anxia didn't really understand why her parents' attitudes were so changeable, with one idea after another.

She had no idea what they were going to do next.

Moreover, their attitude was so inexplicable; it changed completely in the blink of an eye.

Jiang Anxia felt that she was getting used to this if things continued like this.

"Baby, don't think about it anymore, go and rest for a while." Gu Yanzhu said softly, and at the same time bent down slightly, and with a strong movement, picked up Jiang Anxia.

Jiang Anxia was suddenly picked up and hugged Gu Yanzhu tightly with her little hands.

"What are you doing! You scared me." There was a hint of grievance in her voice.

"It's my fault for not telling our little one beforehand." Gu Yanzhu smiled indulgently.

"Hmph ╯^╰" Jiang Anxia snorted softly.

Only then did she realize that Gu Yanzhu was holding her like a child.

She was practically sitting on Gu Yanzhu's arm.

Jiang Anxia was stunned.

This was the first time Gu Yanzhu had ever held her like this. Although she had been held before, it was always a princess carry, never like this.

"Rest well now, and don't think about those messy things." Gu Yanzhu gently placed the little girl on the bed, covered her with a blanket, looked into the little girl's eyes, and spoke softly.

Jiang Anxia looked at Gu Yanzhu and nodded gently, then closed her eyes and began to sleep.

Seeing that the little girl was behaving well, Gu Yanzhu was not in a hurry to leave. She sat quietly by the bed, gently patting the little girl with one hand and coaxing her.

Under Gu Yanzhu's gentle coaxing, Jiang Anxia drifted off to sleep.

Looking at the little girl's sleeping face, Gu Yanzhu sighed softly to himself.

His little girl! Why can't the Jiang family see her good qualities?

Gu Yanzhu frowns slightly whenever he thinks of the Jiang family, as he knows some things about them.

The girl the Jiang family brought back is named Su Ningning.

Gu Yanzhu had met him once or twice; he was petite and delicate-looking, and did indeed resemble Jiang's mother somewhat.

But there were only a few, not many.

...

Three hours later, Jiang Anxia stretched and slowly woke up.

I slept much more comfortably than the previous two days, and all my fatigue seemed to have disappeared because of this sleep.

Jiang Anxia threw off the covers and got out of bed.

As soon as she opened the door, she saw Gu Yanzhu tending to her flowers, plants, and vegetables in the yard.

Hearing the door open, Gu Yanzhu turned her head to look.

The little girl stood in the room, staring intently at him.

Gu Yanzhu's lips curled slightly, revealing a gentle and doting smile.

“I thought you went back,” Jiang Anxia said sweetly.

To be honest, when she didn't see Gu Yanzhu in the room, she genuinely thought he had gone back.

"I took two days off, I can go back tomorrow." Gu Yanzhu walked to the basin, washed his hands, and then approached his little girl.

"Gu Yanzhu, thank you." Jiang Anxia said earnestly, her voice clear and crisp.

Jiang Anxia was truly grateful to Gu Yanzhu.

From the time I met him until now, it seems that Gu Yanzhu has always been the one who has given more.

But he never said anything to her, always standing silently behind her.

"Silly." Gu Yanzhu chuckled softly, affectionately raising his hand to pat the little girl's head.

Everything he did was of his own free will.

Jiang Anxia didn't speak, but her watery eyes quietly looked at Gu Yanzhu.

She will treat him the same way he treated her.

“I’ll go back with you tomorrow.” Jiang Anxia still wanted to visit the Jiang family; she wanted to understand things.

“Okay, I’ll go with you.” Gu Yanzhu planned to accompany the little girl, afraid that she would be wronged.

Jiang Anxia smiled and looked at him with bright eyes.

She was very fortunate to meet such a gentle and kind person in this special time and space.

????????????

The morning sunlight streamed into the room through the cracks in the window, a playful ray of light gently falling on Jiang Anxia's eyes.

Her eyelids trembled slightly, and then Jiang Anxia opened her eyes, which looked wet.

Soon, those confused eyes gradually brightened.

Jiang Anxia sighed and got out of bed helplessly.

I can't sleep, I just can't sleep at all.

Helpless, Jiang Anxia slumped to her feet and quickly went to wash up.

When she sat down at the dinner table, she felt like she had used up all her energy for the day and really wanted to give up.

"What are you thinking about? If you don't eat breakfast soon, it will get cold!" Gu Yanzhu carried the milk and walked to the little girl's side, speaking softly.
