Chapter 9 Going to Town

"I just wanted her to eat more! Look how thin your sister has become." Jiang's mother frowned deeply as she looked at Jiang Zhuohua.

It's as if if he says something she doesn't like, the next second her chopsticks will hit her on the head.

"Stop arguing with Mom and eat your food properly." Zhou Laidi gave her husband a disgruntled look.

Honestly, how old are you? Still arguing with your mom.

"Alright, eat your food properly. Eldest son, remember to tidy up that house, otherwise the educated youth will have nowhere to sleep when they come." Father Jiang rolled his eyes at Jiang Zhuohua.

He usually seems quite smart, but why does he become so stupid at mealtimes, always picking fights with his wife?

"Don't worry! I guarantee it will be handled perfectly." Jiang Zhuohua patted his chest, making a strong guarantee.

His silly appearance is simply unbearable to look at.

At one o'clock in the afternoon, Jiang Anxia was called out of her room by her father. They were about to leave for town to pick someone up.

"Xiaxia, why don't you go to the post office while you're at it? Your second brother's letter should have arrived in the next couple of days." Seeing the father and daughter rushing out, Jiang's mother quickly spoke up, afraid that if they were too late, they would be nowhere to be seen.

“Okay, I understand!” Jiang Anxia answered loudly and followed her father onto the oxcart.

"Good afternoon, Uncle Li!" Jiang Anxia waved to Uncle Li, who was driving an oxcart.

"Oh my, Xia is getting more and more polite." Grandpa Li smiled broadly, his face wrinkling up.

"You! Don't praise her too much, or she'll get all high and mighty." Mr. Jiang was overjoyed to hear Mr. Li praising his daughter.

These words touched his heart, but he couldn't say them out loud; it was painful.

"I'm telling the truth. If we're talking about the whole brigade, your kids are the best raised! They're all so successful." Old Li was genuinely envious of Jiang's children.

They are all promising children, that's wonderful!

"Your child isn't bad either." The two of them went back and forth praising each other's children.

Jiang Anxia looked around boredly. Lush grass grew on the side of the road. The road was a dirt road. It was fine when it didn't rain, but when it rained, it became full of potholes, making it difficult even for oxcarts to move forward.

It wobbles around like a baby's cradle, making people feel sleepy.

Jiang's father happened to see this scene, a thought flashed through his mind, and then he shook his daughter awake.

It is said that one should die for oneself rather than for one's teammates. Faced with the choice between harming himself and harming his daughter, Father Jiang did not hesitate to choose the latter.

"Dad, what are you doing?" Jiang Anxia was not very clear-headed at first, but when she sensed a hint of calculation in her father's gaze, she snapped back to reality.

"Xiaxia! Doesn't Dad usually spoil you the most?" Father Jiang smiled, but there was a hint of malice in his expression.

Jiang Anxia nodded silently; there was no way to refute those words.

"Shouldn't Xiaxia do Daddy a favor?"

Okay, Jiang Anxia understood, something's up! "Speak! What is it?"

“Aren’t these the educated youth? Dad has decided that you will be in charge of them. If they don’t understand something, they can come to you first. If you can’t solve it, they can come to Dad. Isn’t that simple?” After saying that, Father Jiang rubbed his hands together, afraid that his daughter would disagree.

Jiang Anxia was speechless for a moment. Was this way of trying to harm her daughter so obvious?

“Okay, I agree.” Jiang Anxia raised the white sail. Anyway, she didn’t have much to do, so she wanted to help her family in any way she could.

Then, for the rest of the journey, Jiang's father explained everything to Jiang Anxia in detail, to the point that Grandpa Li, who was driving the oxcart, wanted to take off his socks and stuff them into Jiang's father's mouth.

It was too noisy. This was the first time he had ever seen Mr. Jiang so talkative. The worst part was that some of the things he had already said were still being said by Mr. Jiang.

Jiang Anxia was almost dizzy from her father's brainwashing-like explanations.

Fortunately, the oxcart arrived before she fainted.

"Alright, stop talking. My ears are practically calloused." Grandpa Li picked at his ear with his little finger and said irritably.

"Alright, I won't say anything more. Xiaxia, go buy whatever you want! Do you have enough money?" Father Jiang paused for a moment. What he said had offended Grandpa Li.

Jiang Anxia chuckled to herself. She knew why, but she didn't say anything.

"Dad, no need, I have my own."

"Alright! Go ahead! Come back when it's time." Father Jiang silently suppressed his worry, watching his daughter leave with reluctance in his eyes.

He could only sit under the tree and wait for the educated youth who might not arrive for who knows how long.

"What kind of expression is that? It's not like you're not coming back." Grandpa Li looked even more disgusted.

Mr. Jiang pouted, not replying to Grandpa Li, and silently hugged himself, feeling distressed; he wondered if his daughter would be scared all by herself!

"Oh dear! Alright, alright, I can't even stand being away from you for a little while. What will I do when I get married?" Seeing him like this, Grandpa Li could only offer helpless words of comfort.

Mr. Jiang, who was only going through the motions, became genuinely upset when he heard Mr. Li mention the word "marriage."

Let's leave that aside for now and talk about Jiang Anxia's side.

Jiang Anxia strolled slowly down the street in this era, feeling as if everything was shrouded in a gray haze.

Everywhere was black and white, with low houses and black tiles that gleamed from the wind and sun. Some houses even had weeds growing on their roofs, adding a touch of color to the world.

It also gave Jiang Anxia a taste of the colors of this world.

Jiang Anxia followed the route from the original owner's memories. When she reached a deserted place, she slipped into the space.

I found the patched-up clothes that I had put in my space when I left home. It's funny to say why the original owner had these clothes.

This garment was originally destined to be thrown away, but Jiang Xiaohua saw it and insisted on showing off how skillful she was. In front of the original owner, she sewed up the torn parts and deliberately patched up the good parts.

She hoped that the original owner of this dress would wear it and be laughed at.

But her wishful thinking backfired. The original owner never wore it, and over time, the dress was relegated to the bottom of a trunk.

This is actually a good thing for Jiang Anxia now, as it's perfect for her to disguise herself where she's going.

So after returning to her room, Jiang Anxia looked for some worn-out clothes.

Jiang Anxia changed her clothes, found a basket and a carrying basket, and took them to the inside of the mall.

Jiang Anxia stood in the rice, flour, and cooking oil section of the supermarket, found a cloth bag, opened it, and poured a bag of rice into it.

Next came the flour and noodles. Jiang Anxia also went to the fresh meat section and took four pieces of pork, each weighing one jin (500 grams).

Having found the items, Jiang Anxia picked up the basket, slung the sack over her shoulder, and vanished from the void in a flash.

Her time is limited and cannot be wasted.
