Jiang Anxia only raised her head and rubbed her neck when she heard An Yuxi calling her name.
Looking out the window, I could only see the general outline of the courtyard; nothing else was visible.
"Third Brother, did you call me?" Jiang Anxia wasn't quite sure, so she asked anyway.
"Yes, I made you a cup of milk. Remember to drink it." An Yuxi stood in front of Jiang Anxia's window, holding a cup of milk.
"Okay, I understand." Jiang Anxia reached out and took it, smiling obediently.
She couldn't continue like this; she also wanted to do something for the An family, for the An family's caring brother and parents.
"Okay, go to bed early, don't stay up too late." An Yuxi whispered a few words of advice, smiled, and left.
"Okay." Jiang Anxia replied, regardless of whether An Yuxi could hear her or not.
......
The next morning, Jiang Anxia returned to the Victory Brigade in a rickety oxcart.
When she arrived, Jiang Nanqiu, Jiang Xing, and Jiang Wang had already gone to school.
Jiang's father and Jiang Zhuohua went to work, leaving only Jiang's mother and Zhou Laidi at home.
Jiang Anxia gently pushed open the door of the Jiang family home and saw her mother sitting with her back to her.
The moment Zhou Laidi opened the door, she saw Jiang Anxia. She was about to call out to her when Jiang Anxia stopped her.
Jiang Anxia put her index finger to her lips, signaling Zhou Laidi to be quiet.
Jiang Anxia quietly walked up behind her mother, trying her best to control her steps.
This action made Zhou Laidi want to laugh but dare not, and she could only try to calm herself down.
Jiang's mother frowned slightly as she looked at Zhou Laidi, whose expression was strange. "What's wrong with you?"
Zhou Laidi's face changed when she was startled by Jiang's mother's sudden voice. "No...it's nothing."
Jiang Anxia was startled by her mother's sudden voice and almost stumbled and fell to the ground.
Zhou Laidi couldn't help but smile, her lips twitching slightly.
Seeing that her mother showed no sign of turning her head, Jiang Anxia quickly took a few steps, stood behind her mother, and raised her hand to cover her mother's eyes.
"Oh! It's Xiaxia, isn't it? You're being naughty again." Jiang's mother raised her hand and immediately recognized it as Jiang Anxia's hand.
Only Jiang Anxia's hands were smooth and soft, and only Jiang Anxia dared to cover her eyes like that.
"Mom, how did you know?" Jiang Anxia was noticeably more relaxed in front of her mother.
"I can tell just by touching your hands." Jiang's mother pulled Jiang Anxia's hand and made her sit down next to her, speaking in a somewhat annoyed tone.
This girl doesn't even look at herself. In the whole brigade, whose hands are as beautiful and fair as hers?
“Indeed, you can tell it’s Xiaxia just by touching it.” Zhou Laidi nodded in agreement.
"Okay!" Jiang Anxia pouted, realizing that this was where she had exposed herself.
"Why are you back today?" Jiang's mother asked with a smile.
"I have something to discuss with you!" Jiang Anxia grabbed her mother's arm, rested her head on it, and acted coquettishly.
"You're such a grown-up, still acting like a child. Aren't you ashamed?" Although Jiang's mother said this, she was very happy inside.
The children in the family have grown up, and apart from Jiang Xing, only Jiang Anxia knows how to act spoiled.
When they were little, it was fine, but now that they're all grown up, they're all more opinionated than the last.
"I don't feel ashamed to act cute with my mom," Jiang Anxia replied proudly.
She just loves to act cute with her mom. If acting cute with her mom is embarrassing, then what isn't embarrassing?
"You!" Jiang's mother smiled helplessly, and then didn't know what to say.
"Mom, I think Xiaxia is absolutely right." Zhou Laidi smiled gently, her voice full of affection.
"You all just spoil her!" Jiang's mother said, seeing Jiang Anxia's face beaming with joy because of what Zhou Laidi had said.
It's simply unbearable to watch.
"Speak! What brings you back today?" Jiang's mother knew Jiang Anxia well.
Unless something else happened, he wouldn't have come back so early; it doesn't seem like he came back to play at all.
Jiang Anxia opened her mouth, organized her thoughts, and then began to speak.
Jiang's mother nodded in understanding.
"Alright! Okay, I have no objections."
Zhou Laidi pursed her lips, unsure of what to say.
She has very mixed feelings right now.
It was about the same as when they first found out that Jiang Anxia wasn't the Jiang family's biological child.
Jiang's mother naturally saw her expression, but said nothing.
"When do you think is the right time? It's all up to you to decide." Jiang Anxia had actually guessed that her mother would say this, so she wasn't surprised at all.
"How about the day after tomorrow? You can come to my house. I can go buy some groceries tomorrow." Jiang's mother thought for a moment.
A day was enough for them to prepare things and clean the house.
“Okay, I’ll tell her when I get back to town.” Jiang Anxia nodded; she had thought her mother would choose tomorrow.
"It's good that you remember, just don't forget it later." Jiang's mother gently stroked Jiang Anxia's head, her voice revealing no emotion.
But Jiang Anxia knew that her mother must be feeling terrible right now.
"Xiaxia, are they good to you?" Zhou Laidi asked hesitantly, wanting to know if Jiang Anxia was doing well.
“Very good, just like how you treat me,” Jiang Anxia replied earnestly.
The An family treated her the same way the Jiang family treated her, except that the An family's treatment was tinged with a subtle, almost imperceptible, caution.
Jiang Anxia understood all of this and tried her best to act as usual.
She didn't want the people who cared about her to sense anything.
"That's good." Now Zhou Laidi was completely relieved.
She had no doubt that Jiang Anxia was telling the truth. Because she knew Jiang Anxia.
Jiang Anxia knew perfectly well who was on her side and would never lie to anyone.
"Alright, what do you want to eat for lunch? I'll make it for you." Jiang's mother's gentle voice rang in Jiang Anxia's ears.
"I love anything Mom makes." Jiang Anxia said this very seriously.
She likes anything that tastes good and isn't picky at all.
This is what Jiang Anxia is most satisfied with.
If she's a picky eater, she'll miss out on a lot of delicious food.
"Always saying nice things." Jiang's mother smiled knowingly and glanced at Jiang Anxia.
“I’m telling the truth,” Jiang Anxia quickly said.
She was telling the absolute truth.
"Mom, don't tease Xiaxia anymore, or she'll throw a tantrum and you'll have to coax her." Zhou Laidi said with a smile.
Jiang's mother's favorite thing to do was tease Jiang Anxia. Every time she teased him until he got angry, she had to find a way to coax him back.
“Exactly.” Jiang Anxia puffed out her cheeks and nodded in agreement.
She'll be sitting on the ground throwing a tantrum soon.
"Fine, fine, just spoil her then!" Jiang's mother sighed helplessly.
These two sisters-in-law are of one mind.
She doesn't bother arguing with them.
"It's getting late, go cook dinner." Jiang's mother looked up at the horizon; the sun was already high in the sky, and Jiang's father and Jiang Zhuohua would be back soon.
"I'll go start the fire," Jiang Anxia said immediately.
