Chapter 32 Trap

Chapter 32 Trap

Su Tong almost choked, paused, and then asked:

"Did you see anyone with me and then got unlucky?"

Shitou didn't hesitate at this moment and nodded:

"Zhu Zi's grandmother worked in the same group with you. Later, she fell into the toilet and nearly drowned. And there was also Pang Dun's aunt, who rode in a bullock cart with you. After returning, she had diarrhea for half a month and her legs were shaky when she walked. I saw it with my own eyes. And there was also..."

Shitou said several things in one breath, and then continued:

"These are just what I know. If I ask my grandmother, she can tell me more."

Su Tong was a little surprised. She had always thought that the original owner's bad reputation was due to the failure of her first two engagements. As time went by, rumors spread and led to the situation where everyone avoided her.

Shitou looked serious and didn't seem to be lying. It seemed like this had happened many times before...

This is strange, could it be that the original owner really has an unlucky physique?

Su Tong did not reveal more. He chatted with Shitou about other topics and learned about other situations in the village. The two of them shared the roasted chicken and ate it all up.

The pheasants were big and had firm meat, and both of them felt a little full after eating so much.

Shitou touched his round belly and burped with satisfaction. He had never eaten meat so happily in his life.

At this moment, he looked at Su Tong with admiration.

Afterwards, Su Tong put out the fire, buried the chicken bones, and then took out the pheasant eggs one by one from the basket.

"Although it's not convenient to bring pheasant meat back, you can bring pheasant eggs. Just say you picked them up from the mountain in front of you."

Shitou waved his hands repeatedly, his face flushed red, "Sister Tongya, I, I have already eaten your chicken, I can't have your eggs anymore, you keep them for yourself."

Su Tong smiled, "I can even catch pheasants, so why should I be afraid of not having eggs in the future? Take them back! But you have to promise me that you will not sneak into the back mountain in the future. It's not safe here."

Shitou saw that he couldn't refuse, and deep down he really wanted the nest of pheasant eggs.

He thought about it, lowered his head and rummaged around in his basket, took out a few bamboo shoots as thick as his forearms, and handed them to Su Tong somewhat embarrassedly.

"This is the winter bamboo shoots I dug. You, you take it back and try it."

Su Tong accepted it with a smile.

Shitou watched her put the winter bamboo shoots into the basket, then he pulled out a few handfuls of hay and put them in his own basket, and then carefully put the pheasant eggs in one by one.

This child is simple, attentive and grateful. It seems that Ma Daming's family has a good tradition. Although they are in the same village, there is a world of difference between them and the old Wu family.

"If you can keep today's incident a secret, I will teach you how to catch pheasants next time." Su Tong said casually.

This village is full of superstitious ideas. She has just arrived and needs to change slowly. She has to remind Shi Tou, otherwise who knows what new version of the story will evolve in the village.

When Shitou heard this, his eyes lit up and he nodded repeatedly.

After separating from the stone, Su Tong did not rush down the mountain, but continued to walk deeper along the stream beside the pepper tree.

In the primeval forest, streams are the best landmarks. Even if someone is lost, he can usually find his way out by following the stream.

The further you go in, the harder the road becomes. The shade of the trees blocks the sun, and the dead vines and weeds are intertwined, making it difficult to walk.

The stream turned a corner in front and continued to stretch forward. Su Tong had no plan to go any further.

There was a fallen tree on the stream, forming a natural bridge. Su Tong walked over and there was a low cliff on the other side.

She saw the dry grass swaying from a distance, and it seemed to be either a pheasant or a hare.

Just as I was thinking about it, I saw a rabbit jumping out from inside and heading to the left.

Su Tong was cheered up, picked up a few stones and started chasing. Not long after he ran, he saw the rabbit "whoosh" into the grass and disappeared.

When they pulled aside the grass, they saw a hole on the cliff that was nearly a person's height. It was completely covered by weeds and would have never been found if it weren't for the rabbit leading the way.

However, the entrance to the hole was very shallow and one could see the bottom at a glance. There was also a small, pitch-black hole in the corner, and the rabbit had already crawled into this hole and escaped.

Su Tong suddenly felt playful and turned around to start digging a hole at the entrance of the cave.

I thought to myself, if this is a rabbit hole, I will set a trap at the entrance, and the rabbits will fall down in droves!

The hoe was rusty and difficult to use. I worked so hard and sweated a lot before I finally dug a trap that was half a person's height and two feet wide. I buried sharpened bamboos underneath and covered it with dead grass.

Although there is a 99% chance that no one will come here, she still set up eye-markers next to it to avoid stepping on it by mistake.

Although the trap is not big, the rabbit will not be able to escape if it falls into it. Even if there is no rabbit, a few pheasants or something will be enough.

Su Tong clapped his hands, packed up his things and went down the mountain slowly, thinking that next time he would get a handy tool and dig deeper so that he wouldn't have to worry about eating meat.

On the way down the mountain, I picked a lot of herbs and dried wild peppers, and even found a persimmon tree with dried persimmons on it.

No one picks persimmons in the mountains, so those that don’t fall are hung on the branches to dry. They taste sweet and sticky, similar to persimmon cakes.

The tree is very tall. There are only a few flowers on the short branches, probably having been cut down by someone. There are still many flowers densely clinging to the high branches that are out of reach.

Su Tong picked up small stones, aimed at them one by one and knocked down quite a few of them. He put them all into the backpack and went down the mountain with a full harvest.

When she returned to the small courtyard, before she pushed open the gate, she saw a person coming out of the cowshed not far away and waving at her from a distance.

It was Xing Dongyang.

Su Tong greeted with a smile, "Brother Xing! How long have you been here?"

Xing Dongyang walked over quickly and said:

"I was sending the veterinarian from the commune back home. On the way back, I met Secretary Wu who was going to the town, so I accompanied him to the town. I just came back and heard that you came to see the cowshed. I didn't see you when I came, so I waited in the cowshed for a while."

It is the slack season during the farming season and the tractor is not needed for any work. It can be used as a public bus when there is something going on in the village.

Xing Dongyang is a tractor driver, so he has to run around everywhere. Of course, he has to say hello to the village and get approval before going anywhere. Diesel is rationed, and if it exceeds the limit, the village has to find a way out.

Su Tong opened the gate and called Xing Dongyang in, but Xing Dongyang turned and ran out, "I'll go get your luggage first."

When he arrived, the courtyard gate was closed. Knowing that Su Tong's bag contained bedding, he was afraid of getting it dirty, so he placed the bag on the haystack in the cowshed.

After getting the bag back, Xing Dongyang couldn't help but frown when he saw the empty yard and house.

But when she thought of her family, she felt that living here was better than living at home.

Su Tong put the bag on the square table, and took out a few dried persimmons from the backpack and handed them over, "Brother Xing, there are no cups or hot water here. Eat some dried persimmons! I've tasted them, they're very sweet."

Xing Dongyang felt a little sad. He wanted to refuse, but was afraid that Su Tong would be embarrassed, so he had to take it and asked in a hoarse voice:

"How do you live when you don't have anything? What do you eat and drink?"
