Chapter 2 A Not-So-Good Start

When Ningxia regained consciousness, his head was buzzing. There was a hard wooden board under him, and a broken and shaky door in front of him. The situation was not good.

The room was small and narrow, with dark walls and a faint light coming through a small window. The floor was bumpy. Ningxia wanted to get up, and the wooden bed creaked when she moved.

Next to the bed was a cabinet without legs, propped upside down against the door. Apart from these two things, there was nothing else in the entire room. Where was this?

Ningxia felt a sharp pain in her head. A memory that did not belong to her played in her mind like a documentary, and it did not stop until she completely accepted all the information. Ningxia's head felt like it was exploding, and she felt so painful that she wanted to curse.

The original owner has the same name and surname as her. She just turned seventeen this year. It is now July 1973, a special decade. As expected, she has come to the 1970s and 1980s. Even if she refuses to follow the routine in the novel, she will definitely not be able to go back.

The original owner is a freshman in high school this year. She has always known that she is not popular in this family, so she wants to finish her studies early and find a job. The teacher promised that she will stay in school to teach after she graduates successfully.

The original owner was very hardworking. She completed two years of high school knowledge in just one year and graduated successfully. If nothing unexpected happens, she will be able to get a job soon and help reduce the burden on her family.

But plans cannot keep up with changes. The original owner had many children in his family, including older brothers and sisters and two younger brothers. Except for those who were still in school, no other child in the family had gone to the countryside.

This era was very different from the information she had learned about the 1970s and 1980s, and the names of some important figures did not match, but the general development trend was still similar.

In order to avoid going to the countryside, the original owner's eldest sister got engaged early, but the engagement was broken off not long after. Seeing that time waits for no one, with the efforts of her mother, she successfully arranged another marriage, and it was a formal employee.

Her mother was so proud that she boasted about it right after the wedding ceremony, and everyone in the entire family compound knew about it. No one knew who had envied her, but she reported her. The street office notified the remaining unemployed people that they must respond to the call and go to the countryside.

The house was in chaos all of a sudden.

The original owner's family lived in a small city in Jiang Province, and they were a dual-income family. Ning's father was a loader at a textile factory, doing hard work and earning a whopping 46 yuan a month, which was considered high-income in that era.

Ning's mother is an ordinary worker in a kettle factory. Her salary is only half of Ning's father's, but she is also a formal worker. I wonder how many people envy such a dual-income family!

Logically speaking, such a family would not be too well-off, but life would not be too difficult either. But the original owner had so many children, six in total, big and small.

Ning's father was tall, perhaps over 1.8 meters, but he was also incredibly thin, like a bamboo pole. His height made him stand out wherever he went, and no leader liked standing next to someone a head taller than them, so he was forced to do physically demanding work.

Ning's mother was a typical Jiangnan water town beauty, with cherry lips and willow-shaped eyebrows. At that time, she was a famous beauty in the surrounding area. Once when she came to the city to buy something, she and Ning's father fell in love with each other.

Even though his parents objected, Ning's father, who had been a coward all his life, was still tough for once and insisted on marrying Ning's mother. Later, his parents compromised and spent a large sum of money to marry Ning's mother back. Ning's mother finally got married in the city as she wished.

A golden phoenix appeared in the mountain valley, and the Ning family also enjoyed a lot of blessings. No matter what era, appearance is the stepping stone for those without background.

By the way, the man her elder sister Ning Jiao was previously engaged to was a soldier. When they were about to get married, the man fell in love with a girl from the art troupe in the army and insisted on breaking off the engagement.

They say it's a new era and marriage should be free, but in the end it's just that Ning Jiao's appearance is a bit sloppy.

The formal workers we are talking about this time, even if they are in their thirties and remarried but have no children, the three words "formal workers" can make all dissatisfaction disappear, and a stable job offsets all inappropriateness.

Her second sister is the one who looks most like her father in the family. She looks as big and strong as a man. Because her eldest sister has never married, her marriage has been delayed.

Ning's parents felt sorry for her and finally spent money to buy her a temporary job.

She hated Ningxia the most. She felt that her mother gave birth to such a pretty Ningxia, but she was so ugly. She swore that she would live a better life than Ningxia in the future.

Her eldest brother Ning Xin is the treasure of the family. When Ning's mother gave birth to two girls, her grandparents almost scolded Ning's mother as a useless thing and looked at her with disdain all day long.

Comparing herself with her sisters-in-law, Ning's mother was almost tortured to death. Life did not get better until Ning Xin was born. Ning's mother felt that her eldest son was sent by God to save her, and she was afraid that he would melt if she held him in her mouth.

Ning Xin dropped out of school after graduating from junior high school, and spent his days stealing and doing nothing. His mother had long planned to let him take over her job, but Ning Xin felt that being an ordinary worker was a dead end and had always wanted an office job.

Ning's mother had always been accommodating to her beloved son's every request and was saving money to get him an office job. This was her precious son, the one who would support her in her old age, and she was willing to continue supporting him like this.

The original owner, Ningxia, was a nobody in the family. Although she had a son and a daughter, her birth did not cause any stir at all. She was a quiet person, not as good at coaxing people as her two sisters, nor as fat as her brother.

The two younger brothers are twins, and are also the darlings of Ning's father and mother. They are twins, so she can hold her head high not only in the Ning family, but also in the entire staff compound.

Recalling the appearance of the original owner in his memory, Ningxia glanced out the window, placed the legless cabinet horizontally against the door, and quickly slipped into the space.

Ningxia was so stunned by the person in the mirror that she was in a trance for a few seconds. She looked like her yet not like her. She had fair skin, almond eyes, rosy cheeks, and slightly furrowed eyebrows. People couldn't help but look at her again and again.
