Chapter 34: House Building Troubles

Tiewazi is going to build a house. When people talk about this, the whole Heishan Brigade is excited.

They were not happy, but surprised. Where did he get the money to build a house? They thought of the prey in the mountains and wondered if he was going to engage in speculation.

But no one dared to report it. Not only was there no evidence, but even if there was, they were still hoping that he would lead them to the mountains in the spring to pick wild vegetables. Every household was counting on this!

Although they are all jealous behind the scenes, they appear to be enthusiastic about helping.

Building a house now requires more than just money and food; you also need wood, adobe bricks, and sorghum straw. A good piece of wood is the result of generations of hard work, and it's essential for the main beams.

But Ren Jingxiao didn't worry about these things because everyone was very enthusiastic.

"Iron boy, I have some sorghum straw at home, I'll give it to you first when the time comes."

"I have quite a few adobe bricks at home, leftover from building the yard."

"There are still a few decent wooden rafters in the brigade. I'll give them to Tiewazi when the time comes."

Everyone was talking at once, with a smile on their face.

"Okay, when everyone comes to help us, I'll let Dapao catch some prey and stew the meat for everyone." This time everyone laughed more sincerely.

"Tiewazi, how big a house do you plan to build?" The team leader was not like these people. He could guess that Tiewazi must have some money, probably more than 500, which was definitely enough to build a house.

“It doesn’t need to be too big, just build two brick houses.”

"What? Building a tiled house?" Everyone was shocked. Seeing that Ren Jingxiao didn't look like he was lying, the villagers felt jealous.

If they build a mud brick house, smoke will come out of their ancestral graves, and other people will build a brick and tile house as soon as they open their mouths.

The ladies in the village regretted it even more. If they had known that this iron boy had a family background, they would have introduced their daughters to him long ago. Now, they have been given away to an outsider for nothing.

Ren Dazhu and Ren Erzhu in the crowd hated this ungrateful bastard even more! No matter what they did, his heart was as hard as a rock.

They even broke their boss's leg, and they thought such a person was building a brick house? This time they had something on their hands.

They still don't know where the money came from. Since he is so disloyal, they can't cover up for him. They have to report him.

If he doesn't want them to report him, then just hand over the money and pay it back home on time in the future. This will be a way of repaying them for raising him.

It was a rare occasion that the two families had the same idea. Ren Dazhu and Ren Erzhu limped back. They wanted to go back and discuss it.

Ren Jingju looked at the person standing in the distance. She knew he was her fourth brother, but he didn't recognize them.

She felt that her mother and the others had done something wrong and they owed him an apology instead of just wanting to gain benefits from him.

"Mom, Fourth Brother..."

"Fourth brother, your fourth brother is at home."

Wang Wenbing, standing under a tree enjoying the cool breeze, watched the family acting suspiciously and quickly followed them. Hey! Here was his chance to make a name for himself.

Bricks and tiles required special approval, so Ren Jingxiao killed three wild boars and exchanged them for bricks and tiles, which he neatly arranged in his yard.

Everyone was also busy helping him clear out the rubble and digging the foundation.

While things were bustling over here, the families of Ren Dazhu and Ren Erzhu were busy reporting the crime. Each family sent a person to rush to the town.

Wang Wenbing and his group of cronies were waiting for them on the road. When they saw the two men, they put sacks on them and started beating them without saying anything.

He reviewed carefully what Brother Xiao had taught them over the past few days, and the more he beat them, the more comfortable he became. He almost lost control until the two men passed out, and then he stopped.

They lifted the two people and threw them at the door of their house. There were no good people like them who would send them back.

If they weren't afraid that they would lie on the roadside and be eaten by wild beasts at night, they would not be so kind.

The Ren family quieted down again, their hatred for Ren Jingxiao growing deeper and deeper. But Ren Jingxiao knew nothing about what his disciples had done.

It is the slack season for farmers now. Although it is not easy to build a house, it is hard to accommodate so many people!

Ningxia wanted to help with the cooking, but Ren Jingxiao disagreed. With so many people, this job would be too tiring.

Finally, Wang Wenbing's mother and sister came to help. More and more people came to work, and they didn't ask for anything, just to have Tiewazi stew some meat for everyone every few days, and everyone was willing to do it.

By the time the house was almost built and we were waiting to put up the beams, more than half a month had passed.

It was time for the brigade to rest again. Last time, no one dared to go out. Now everything seemed to have calmed down, and everyone at home was short of salt, needlework, and they were all planning to go to town.

But no one dared to go to the county, not even Ningxia. She wanted to go to the town to see if her godmother had replied to her letter. Their place was remote, and there was usually no postman to deliver unimportant letters.

Ren Jingxiao knew that Ningxia was going to the town, so he handed over the work in his hands to Wang Wenbing and followed her.

The tractor driver who came to pick them up this time was a different one. The guy from last time hasn't recovered yet. He picked up a whole truckload of people, but lost half of them on the way back.

This time he was more serious. When they got to the town, he kept telling me not to run around. In the end, he didn't go anywhere and just waited next to the tractor.

The town supply and marketing cooperative is much smaller than the department store in the county town. Everyone is familiar with the place and their purpose is clear: just buy something and leave.

Ningxia bought some mung bean cakes, which Ren Jingxiao had bought for her last time. She felt that the texture was very solid and became sweeter the more she ate.

When we arrived at the post office, we saw Zhang Yining carrying a big bag and Xu Hengzheng standing beside her, asking her how she was doing.

Ningxia gave him a sarcastic look, saying, "Give me a ride, what a hypocrite."

She had a bundle and a letter in the post office. After Ningxia signed, she took her things and left with Ren Jingxiao.
