Chapter 30 Missing

The educated youth in the front yard had a complete falling out, and even the simple-minded Zhang Yining held a grudge against Chen Yaoyao.

All her money was gone, and she didn't know who to hate, so she decided to blame Chen Yaoyao with everyone else. It was her fault.

No one blamed the bandits, not even insulted them. They seemed to have forgotten who had hurt them and who had taken their money.

None of the female educated youth wanted to take care of Chen Yaoyao, and finally the team leader had no choice but to ask an old woman in the village to take care of her.

Four work points were given as a daily subsidy, and the amount would be deducted once Chen Yaoyao recovered and returned to work. Regardless of whether Chen Yaoyao liked it or not, the old woman was so happy that her mouth twisted with joy. Four work points was a lot.

"Don't worry, Captain. I've taken care of many young piglets before, and I can definitely make Chen Zhiqing feel comfortable."

Chen Yaoyao looked at her mouth full of yellow teeth and an indescribable strange smell, and felt that her wound hurt even more.

Because Chen Yaoyao insisted that she was injured while rescuing people, the brigade still gave her some food in advance. Even with the little food she was given when she went to the countryside, she would have starved to death.

Ningxia didn't want to know what was happening at the educated youth camp that day. She was walking towards Ren Jingxiao's house. As soon as she arrived at the door, she ran into Ren Jingxiao who had just returned from the mountains.

"You're back!" Ningxia hurried to greet him. Seeing that he was fine, she finally felt relieved.

"Come in." When Ren Jingxiao saw Ningxia, a faint smile appeared on his face, not as heavy as before.

"Have you eaten?" Looking at the bundle in Ren Jingxiao's hand, he asked, "What is this? Have they found the group?"

Ren Jingxiao took out a stool and wiped the dust off it, helped Ningxia sit down, and opened the bundle.

There is a mess of all kinds of things, and they look very familiar. Aren’t these the things that were searched from the car that day?

"They must have heard some news and left. I went to several nearby hills and couldn't find them. They must have left in a hurry and didn't take much with them except for the money."

"I packed up some of the unused items and brought them back, and left some there for the police."

Even though those people had escaped, Ren Jingxiao was afraid they would return sooner or later. He had Dapao leave a scent in the mountain and send it back every few days to check. If anyone came, Dapao would tell him.

Ren Jingxiao rummaged through her bag and found that the things Ningxia bought were still there. She had put most of them into the space, except for a few pieces of clothing and an empty basket that was taking up space.

Looking at the other cloths, canned meat, malted milk, sugar cubes, there were all kinds of food and clothes, even Xu Hengzheng's watch was in there.

Ningxia didn't think about what to do with these things, so she just put them into the space.

"Will those people come back? Where can they go without letters of introduction?" Ningxia stopped thinking about those things. She was still worried about those people. They felt like a bomb that could explode at any time.

"Don't worry, they won't be back anytime soon. They're mountain dwellers, and no proper brigade has ever recruited them. Wherever there are mountains, they're home, so letters of introduction are useless to them."

Ren Jingxiao didn't want her to worry about these things. With him around, he would always be by her side, so she didn't need to worry.

Ningxia didn't ask any further questions. There was no point in speculating about something that hadn't happened. Besides, this was Dahei Mountain, and those people wouldn't dare come over to retaliate openly.

After figuring this out, Ningxia put these people out of his mind, took out the food he had prepared in advance, and filled a large bowl for him.

Seeing that Ren Jingxiao had finished eating, she left the clothes she bought with him and took out two bags of milk powder, the kind she had stockpiled in her later life.

I heard someone outside calling Ren Jingxiao, it seemed to be the villager who often guarded the mountain with him.

"You go quickly, I'll go back first!" Ningxia pushed him.

"Can you go back by yourself? By the way, the team leader has approved the housing plot, and construction will begin in two days."

Ren Jingxiao wanted to send her back.

Ningxia snorted at him and said, "I promise I won't lose it." Then she walked away angrily.

On the way to the village, a man in military uniform and carrying a backpack was rushing back.

Someone with sharp eyes recognized him immediately and realized that this was the youngest son of the branch secretary.

He was the most promising person in their village. I heard that he has become a leader now. I don’t know what position he holds, but he gets a lot of subsidies every month. That’s pretty impressive.

"Jianguo, why are you back?" The man was walking forward with his head down when his fifth aunt grabbed him.

Wu Jianguo instinctively wanted to shake off the person's hand, but then he paused and said, "Aunt Wu, my mother is sick. I need to go home first."

"Is your mother sick? How come I didn't know?" Yesterday I saw her scolding Zheng Guoguo, she was jumping around, how could she be sick now? The fifth aunt grabbed Wu Jianguo and rushed to his house together.

Wu Jianguo's house is one of the few brick and tile houses in the village. Thanks to Wu Jianguo's allowance, several of his brothers have started families, and now only Wu Jianguo is still unmarried.

"Jianguo, why are you back?" Wu Jianguo's eldest brother was repairing the gate after dinner. Yesterday, his mother and wife had a fight and kicked the door in.

"Where's Mom? Didn't the letter say she was sick? Has she been taken to the hospital?"

Wu Jianguo didn't exchange pleasantries with his brother, but walked past him and headed back inside. His mother had written that she was dying and asked him to come back to see her one last time, which made Wu Jianguo even more anxious.

Before he even entered the house, Aunt Wu, who had heard the noise, rushed out and said, "My son, you are finally back! If you don't come back, I will die!"

Wu Jianguo saw that his mother looked energetic and didn't look sick at all. He asked in confusion: "Mom, didn't you say you were sick? Are you still sick..."

"What's wrong with me? I'm fine!" Aunt Wu interrupted the unlucky words he was about to say.
