Chapter 26 Selling a Daughter for Fame

Those who had finally come back from the countryside to visit their relatives seemed to have changed. Some of them were not much older than her and looked like her mother.

"Then get married. Mom will find someone for you to marry." He Hongjuan still felt sorry for her daughter. After all, she was her own flesh and blood.

She was counting on Lin Zhendong to support her in her old age, but her son might not be reliable. If he was the same as Lin Yongjun, then her hopes would be in vain.

So she didn't ignore Lin Xiaoyue and still sent her to school. Unfortunately, the work in the city was too busy now and she couldn't find a job.

"No, I don't want to marry a stranger. What if he treats me badly, beats me or scolds me? Can you bear it, Mom?" Lin Xiaoyue was not willing to marry blindly.

"There are only two options right now. Think about it yourself and tell me before tomorrow morning. This matter must be resolved before your father takes action."

He Hongjuan rode her bike all the way to Heping Dumpling Restaurant. The restaurant was conveniently located and the food was delicious.

"Comrade, do you have pig's trotters today? I want two."

No one was rich at that time, and even at mealtime, there were not many people eating in the restaurant.

The waiter, standing at the door, didn't even raise his eyelids and rudely replied, "Today's dishes are written on the board, can't you see them?"

Virtue! He Hongjuan rolled her eyes at her and pulled Lin Xiaoyue to look at the small blackboard at the door.

Today’s offerings:

Pickled cabbage, 1.3 cents

Braised Beans, Eggplant and Minced Pork with Tripe

Beef stew with potatoes, 35 cents

Fried green pepper with meat, wujiao

?Three kinds, seven corners

Sweet and Sour Pork, 85 cents

Fresh meat dumplings, 1.5 yuan per pound (60 pieces)

You need a ticket to eat, and we won’t serve you without a ticket..."

There really is no pig's trotter.

"One serving? Three things and a big steamed bun."

The waiter rolled his eyes. "Seventy-five cents, two ounces of food coupons."

He also muttered quietly: "Is buying a big steamed bun enough for two people?"

He Hongjuan ignored her and just took the food coupons that Lin Xiaoyue handed over. She didn't take the money and paid for it out of her own pocket.

"Thank you, Mom. You are so kind to me. I will definitely be filial to you in the future." Lin Xiaoyue put the dollar back into her pocket and affectionately took He Hongjuan's arm.

The two of them sat at an empty table near the kitchen door. A moment later, a waiter came out with a tray, shouting, "Three! Whose three?"

The plate was quite large and piled high.

"Mine, mine, pack it up!" Lin Xiaoyue took out the prepared lunch box and poured the dishes into it.

Then use a big steamed bun to scrape off the oil drops at the bottom of the plate.

After they left the restaurant, He Hongjuan said as she pedaled her bicycle, "Just say we met on the road."

"I know, Mom!"

The two of them were riding their bikes towards home, and just as they entered the alley, they heard the sound of gongs and drums.

"Is there any happy event in this family? I haven't heard about it... Xiaoyue, do you know?" He Hongjuan was a little confused.

Lin Xiaoyue shook her head: "I don't know. The last time I heard this noise was when my brother was in the army."
